Identifying the Potential of Islamic Mataram Culinary Footprints for Gastronomic Tourism in Yogyakarta
  • Dec 4, 2025
  • Ranah Research : Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Development
  • Kiki Rizki Makiya + 2 more

Food is an essential element of a tourist's travel experience, often becoming a key reference in planning itineraries. The concept of culinary tourism has developed into gastronomic tourism, which encompasses not only the local cuisines, but also the culture and history behind them. This trifecta of cuisine, culture and history, known as the Triangle Concept of Indonesia’s gastronomy, is often still under-utilizing the storytelling component required in presenting the cultural and historical aspect of food. The rich, delectable, and distinct cuisines of Yogyakarta are rooted in its steep cultural heritage, still providing a lot of untapped potentials to enhance its tourism initiatives. One of the most significant periods in Yogyakarta’s history was the era of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom, instrumental in shaping both the region and the nation’s identity. Many of Yogyakarta’s legendary cuisines can be traced back to this period in history. Following the trail and development of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom, this research sought to identify the cuisines from this era that could be formulated as potential gastronomic tourism attraction to further boost the development of the local tourism. This qualitative-exploratory research employed purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data collection was done through interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), observations, and compilation of documents. Data were analyzed using an inductive approach through classification, coding and reduction process. The research resulted in the identification of cuisines that were mapped out according to 5 historical periods of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom’s existence, each food category accompanied by culinary data, historical information, and cultural role/significance, in line with the Triangle Concept of Indonesia’s Gastronomy.

Strategi Pengembangan Wisata Melalui Program Wisata Industri di Kabupaten Sidoarjo
  • Nov 6, 2025
  • RISOMA : Jurnal Riset Sosial Humaniora dan Pendidikan
  • Susi Suharyanti + 2 more

This research examines tourism development strategies through an industrial tourism programme in Sidoarjo Regency as an alternative for regional tourism diversification. Sidoarjo Regency is known as an industrial hub with various production centres, such as shrimp crackers, batik, and shrimp paste (terasi), which have considerable potential to be developed into industrial tourism destinations. The objectives of the study are to analyse industrial tourism development strategies, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and formulate a collaborative model for sustainable industrial tourism development. The research employs a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation study. Research informants include the Sidoarjo Regency Tourism Office, industry stakeholders, tourism communities, and tourists. The results indicate that the industrial tourism development strategy in Sidoarjo utilises a pentahelix approach involving the government, academia, businesses, the community, and the media. Supporting factors include the diversity of local industrial products, good accessibility, and government policy support. However, there are constraints such as minimal digital promotion, limited tourism facilities, and low awareness among business actors regarding the concept of industrial tourism. The recommended collaborative model encompasses institutional strengthening, increasing Human Resources (HR) capacity, developing supporting infrastructure, innovating tourism products, and integrated digital marketing. This research provides a practical contribution to the development of industrial tourism in regions with a strong small and medium-sized industrial economic base.

The article investigates the use of decorated houses, which can act as objects of tourist interest among travelers in excursion tourism in Ukraine. It is determined that the combination of the two industries of construction and tourism will contribute to the popularization of construction objects and their use in the organization of excursion activities and tourism. The TOP-5 houses that have been restored using modern innovative materials in Ukraine and which in the future can be objects of tourist interest in the organization of tourist trips and excursion activities are identified. In the current conditions of the war in Ukraine, excursion objects of domestic tourism are becoming increasingly valuable, in particular, various decorated houses deserve attention. However, there are buildings that can be objects of tourist interest in excursion tourism, but due to their unattractive aesthetic current appearance and the actual partial process of destruction do not have tourist value. This article is devoted to the issue of using various types of decoration of houses and premises and their involvement in tourist and excursion activities as objects of tourist interest in architectural excursions. An analysis of the labor intensity of various types of finishing works for cultural and domestic construction was carried out, which showed that the labor intensity of various types of finishing works for cultural and domestic construction is uneven. Existing theoretical approaches to the concept of excursion tourism and objects of tourist interest, which can be decorated houses, are considered. A study of decorated houses as possible potential excursion objects of tourist interest in Ukraine was conducted, which will contribute to attracting a larger number of travelers, expanding the range of tourist and excursion objects and satisfying their specific requests, which in turn will make it possible to increase the potential of less attractive tourist regions and make a profit, particularly in modern conditions.

Potential of Gamelan Sekaten Reviewed from the Concept of 4A Tourism as a Traditional Cultural Tourism (Case Study on the Sekaten Ceremony to Commemorate the Maulid of Prophet Muhammad in Surakarta)
  • Sep 30, 2025
  • International Journal of Travel, Hospitality and Events
  • Ahmad Abdul Aziz + 2 more

Purpose: This study was conducted with the aim of identifying the potential of Gamelan Sekaten performance in terms of the 4A components (attraction, amenities, accessibility and ancillary services) of tourism. Research Methods: This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study model. The informants in this study consist of 4 (four) participants, academics, event organizers, tourists and karawitan artists. The data collection method was carried out through interview and observation techniques. Data were analyzed using data reduction and thematic analysis techniques. Results and Discussion: The results of the study indicate that Gamelan Sekaten performance is considered to have more as a cultural tourism attraction for several reasons. Gamelan Sekaten performance has several differences when compared to other gamelan performances, such as its implementation which cannot be held at any time, but only at the Sekaten ceremony which is usually held to commemorate the Maulid Prophet Muhammad, and also, the use of gamelan musical instruments with a larger and more complex size and presenting gendhing or poems with a magnificent nuance are also characteristics of Gamelan Sekaten performance. Moreover, another aspect that makes gamelan sekaten more professional is the collaboration between event organizers and academics who has a background in karawitan arts education to keep the quality, uniqueness and authenticity of the performance. On the other hand, the result shows that there are few aspects related to 4A concept such as accessibility, amenities and ancillary services that can be improved to increase tourist satisfaction to watch this performance. Implication: Gamelan sekaten performance is one of the cultural tourism attractions owned by the city of Surakarta that has proven to be able to attract tourists to visit and watch, both tourists from Indonesia, and even foreign tourist. The results have implications for improving several aspects based on 4A concept. Things that can be improved from accessibility aspect are accessibility in the venue and accessibility of performance information. Thing that can be improved from amenities aspect is quantity of facilities such as toilets and parking area. Thing that can be improved from ancillary services is the provision of tour guide to ensure the quality of visitor’s experiences and satisfaction. On the other hand. the research highlights the need to conduct similar research, especially using quantitative-based method, to measure the level of tourist satisfaction in visiting Gamelan Sekaten activity.

The Role of Tourism as a Medium of Reconciliation to Domesticate Radicalism and Religion-Based Intolerance
  • Sep 30, 2025
  • INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
  • I Ketut Suda + 4 more

The high threat of radicalism and intolerance in Indonesia, fueled by primordialism sentiments and disseminated through social media, requires a new, innovative approach. Although the organizational network has weakened, radical ideologies remain adaptive and have the potential to undermine the harmony of a multicultural society. This study examines the role of tourism as an effective medium of reconciliation to domesticate attitudes of radicalism and religion-based intolerance. By integrating the concepts of peace tourism and culture-based tourism, this article argues that tourism can be a bridge for intercultural and interreligious dialogue. Through the interactions that occur in tourist destinations, tourists and local communities are invited to understand universal values that cross religious boundaries. This approach to tourism offers a humanistic preventive solution, focusing on real experience and mutual understanding, rather than a purely reactive approach. The domestication of extremist attitudes can be achieved through the development of peaceful tourism destinations, increased cultural literacy, and strategic partnerships with religious leaders. In conclusion, tourism plays not only a role as an economic sector, but also a strategic tool to build bridges of peace and promote harmony, which will ultimately strengthen the unity of the Indonesian nation.

What roles do wine-related personal traits play in shaping wine tourism motivations in the Thrace region?
  • Sep 20, 2025
  • Journal of Wine Research
  • Fatma Burçin Şapçı + 1 more

ABSTRACT Motivations serve as significant factors influencing the behavior of wine tourists. Therefore, understanding motivations is crucial for developing and managing wine tourism effectively. However, studies on this topic, particularly in Turkey, are limited. This study aims to fill this gap by determining the motivations for wine tourism and exploring their relationships with visitors’ wine-related personal traits (wine product knowledge, wine product involvement, and wine tourist identity). Firstly, to determine the motivations, principal component analysis was conducted based on a face-to-face survey of a random sample of 399 visitors following their winery visits in the Thrace Region. Six motivational factors were identified: educational experience, socialization, destination attractiveness, winery presence, wine product, and vineyard aesthetics. Secondly, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used to put forward the relationships between wine-related personal traits of visitors and the identified motivations. The results showed that wine product involvement significantly predicts four motivational factors: educational experience, socialization, winery presence, and vineyard aesthetics. Wine tourist identity influences the factors of educational experience, winery presence, and wine product, while wine product knowledge emerges as a predictor of socialization. These findings can help not only academics but also wine tourism stakeholders in developing, promoting, and enhancing a wine tourism concept.

Ngiroboyo Beach in Pacitan Regency has great potential as a tourist destination because of its natural beauty. In addition to having a distinctive sea panorama and black sand, this beach also has interesting geothermal potential to be developed. The potential of Ngiroboyo Beach, which has not been widely explored, has led to this community service program being carried out to develop geothermal tourism destinations based on renewable energy, with a focus on increasing access to environmentally friendly electricity and improving tourism facilities. The stages of the activity include socialization, training, and mentoring for tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis) regarding the use of renewable energy through the installation of hybrid PLTS and electric bicycles. The installed hybrid PLTS can produce an electricity capacity of around 400 Watts at peak lighting, as a concrete result of the implementation of this program. The electricity generated through the hybrid PLTS can be used for electricity loads for lights and sound systems to support tourism activities. The training was conducted to strengthen the capacity of the community in managing tourism facilities based on renewable energy. The evaluation results showed a positive response from the participants, who expressed high satisfaction with the implementation of the program. This program is expected to be the first step in promoting the concept of sustainable tourism in Pacitan Regency and supporting sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially in the fields of clean energy and sustainable infrastructure.

Strategi Pengembangan Pariwisata Berkelanjutan Oleh Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Pangandaran
  • Aug 9, 2025
  • Jurnal Hukum dan Sosial Politik
  • Ita Sri Wahyuni + 1 more

This research is motivated by the suboptimal strategy of the Pangandaran Regency Tourism and Culture Office in supporting sustainable tourism development. Several problems identified include the lack of optimal management of facilities and infrastructure, such as waste management, and inadequate transportation facilities. Furthermore, tourism promotion has not been carried out in a sustainable and measurable manner, compounded by the absence of a Regional Promotion Agency. Human resources (HR) in the tourism sector also still lack a comprehensive understanding of the concept of sustainable tourism, which is a major challenge in implementing this policy effectively. The purpose of this study was to determine the strategies implemented by the Pangandaran Regency Tourism and Culture Office in developing sustainable tourism. The method used was descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants in this study consisted of government elements, communities, and tourism business actors. The results showed that the strategies implemented by the Pangandaran Regency Tourism and Culture Office encompass four dimensions of strategic management: environmental monitoring, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and evaluation and control. However, the strategies that have been implemented have not been optimal. Several efforts have been made, including increased training based on local potential, technology education, the formation of promotional groups, and regular activity evaluations. However, major challenges remain: strengthening coordination between various stakeholders and improving natural resource management and more environmentally friendly supporting facilities. This study illustrates the need for strategic and policy adjustments to optimize sustainable tourism development in Pangandaran Regency, with a focus on increasing understanding and involvement of the community and businesses, as well as optimizing infrastructure and promoting more planned and measurable initiatives.
