Community Participation in the Implementation of Development in the Panamas Village, Selat District, Kapuas Regency

This research focuses on community participation in implementing development in the Panamas Village, Selat District, Kapuas Regency. This study is designed to measure the level of participation, understand the factors that encourage and inhibit participation, and provide recommendations for increasing community involvement in development. The research methodology was carried out through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with various stakeholders. The research results show that the level of community participation in the development process still varies, with some segments of society being more active than others. Factors influencing this include knowledge of the development project, access to information, trust in local government, and capacity to participate. The study notes that increased communication and transparency, as well as community empowerment through education and training, can be effective strategies to deepen community participation. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the local government and civil society organizations in efforts to increase community participation in development in the Panamas Village.

Pelatihan Penguatan Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Perencanaan Pembangunan di Desa Andomesinggo Kecamatan Besulutu Kabupaten Konawe

The purpose of this community service activity is to conduct training on strengthening community participation in village development planning. This community service activity was carried out in Andomesinggo Village, Besulutu District, Konawe Regency. This community service activity was carried out in two stages; the first stage was to provide knowledge about the importance of community involvement in development planning to encourage successful development. This stage was carried out using the method of lectures and discussions with the training participants. Furthermore, a direct field review was conducted with the trainees to understand the problems faced in development planning. This service activity has received approval to be integrated with the Village Development Program in Andomesinggo Village, Besulutu District, Konawe Regency.

STUDY OF SOCIAL REALIZATION OF COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION ON DEVELOPMENT IN GAMPONG MERDUATI VILLAGE BANDA ACEH

Purpose of Study: The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze community participation and the factors that influence the development of the Gampong Merduati village in Banda Aceh. The qualitative research method is the method used in this study. Determination of informants is done by purposive sampling, assuming that the informant understands the problem being studied and can provide information and responses to the issues that are the objectives of this study.
 Methodology: The data needed in this study consists of primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation, and documentation studies. Data analysis in this study used the method of Milles and Hubernan (1984), which consisted of Data Reduction, Display Data, and Conclusion Drawings.
 Main Findings: The results of this study show that community participation in the implementation of the Village Fund Allocation (ADD) in the Gampong Merduati Banda Aceh, both participation in the form of energy, mind, and involvement in the form of the budget has been running well, following the wishes of community members and implementation instructions. Factors affecting community participation in the implementation of the Village Fund Allocation in Gampong Merduati Village in Banda Aceh are a sense of belonging, responsibility, and habits that have become a tradition in the Gampong Merduati Village.
 Applications of this study: The community, government, and universities can use the results of this study.
 Novelty/Originality: The ability of human resources (HR) of community members is reliable so that it has implications for the quality and quantity of the Village Fund Allocation itself. This research recommends further research on the role of government in encouraging community involvement in development.

Community Involvement in Development of Evidence-Informed Recommendations for Rehabilitation for Older Adults Living With HIV.

Involving community in development of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) can decrease the gap between patient preferences and research evidence. To incorporate meaningful participation of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV; people living with HIV [PHAs]) in the development of evidence informed recommendations for rehabilitation practice. PHAs were involved in a process to develop practice recommendations internally as members of a project team and externally through formal endorsement of the recommendations. Lessons learned include 1) providing time to develop as a team and understand the roles, biases, and expertise of each member, 2) engaging community in initial discussions to determine the most meaningful involvement, 3) realizing that participation in research may trigger anxiety and stress in community members, 4) developing terms of reference to clarify roles and expectations, 5) providing opportunities for skill development, and 6) conducting formal evaluation of the process and satisfaction of community. Meaningful inclusion of community can improve the quality of practice guidelines.

Taking part in adolescent sexual health promotion in Peru: community participation from a social psychological perspective

This paper revisits the field of community participation in health promotion as understood from the viewpoint of social psychology. It discusses ongoing dialogues between health promotion policy discourses in relation to community involvement in development, and theoretical and practical contributions of social psychology in this respect. In particular, it introduces a social psychological framework for understanding and aiding community participation, grounded in the works of Jurgen Habermas and Paulo Freire. A community-based adolescent sexual health promotion initiative taking place in highly deprived communities in Peru serves as a case study to illustrate the approach. Findings are discussed with respect to the outcomes achieved, the light shed on the understanding of sexual health, and the impact on the adolescents partaking of the project. In the light of the results of the practical implementation of the theoretical approach outlined, the paper argues that social psychology is well positioned to contribute to community development, in particular to improving understanding and aiding of social processes of participation and change. Areas that require further research both at theoretical and at practical levels are identified and discussed. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Practical Notes Empowerment at village level through a workshop method

This article describes the activities and lessons learned of a 2-day workshop held in Sheikhupura District in Punjab, Pakistan. The project aim was to strengthen primary health care and to include the community in health development. The pilot program established Village Health Committees (VHCs) to promote local participation. Villagers decided that VHCs should be representative of the community. The community elected traditional birth attendants, teachers, holy men, and village activists. Workshops were held with VHCs in order to provide basic concepts of community awareness, organization, and development. Each workshop included 3-4 VHCs. Groups were comprised of up to 6 people. Workshops were held near villages and had access to lavatories. The workshop aims were identified throughout individual sessions and linked with each other. Facilitators kept discussions relevant, objective, and interesting. Participants introduced each other, which provided an opportunity to establish comfort and trust. Initial discussions centered on health issues that were introduced as interrelated. The health system issues was related to the village situation. Participants were asked to develop a health system model. The aim of the sessions was to reinforce the importance of the role of community. An exercise was conducted to illustrate the importance of dialogue and collective work. Participants discussed the nature of community organization and means of development, threats to the village, and empowerment. The workshops created awareness of the process of community involvement in development and were ongoing.

The new policies for rural health: institutional, social and financial challenges to large-scale implementation.

Rural development activities are frequently more important than isolated health care interventions in maximizing improvements in rural health status. In addition, integrated socio-economic development of rural areas ensures availability of local resources to finance health schemes, encourages community involvement in development and reforms and strengthens management capacity for health programme implementation and development. Public health services provide in turn an entry point for directly productive development activities. In designing, implementing and operating health components of rural development projects in developing countries, the most serious obstacles are almost invariably the following: (i) how to strengthen the managerial capacity of the health administration from the national to the local level and how to execute integrated programmes through decentralized and uncoordinated agencies; (ii) how to ensure adequate recurrent cost financing and contribution of beneficiaries to operating cost; and (iii) how to achieve active involvement of rural communities in decision-making and services delivery when projects are large and planned and executed by government authorities. In discussing these issues the paper will cite the World Bank’s experiences in a number of African, Asian and Latin American countries.
