To resolve the problems of low yield and poor quality in sweet cherry when grown in a forcing cultivation, a double-heat, semi-automatic multi-span plastic greenhouse was developed. This system includes a high multi-span plastic greenhouse, a double-heat source appliance, automatic monitoring of temperature and humidity, and an automatic recorder of chilling requirement. The chilling requirement of sweet cherry trees can be monitored and calculated accurately. The double heat sources included the traditional floor and solar energy heating appliance which supplied enough heat for sweet cherries. The semi-automatic monitoring devices effectively and accurately controlled the temperature and humidity inside the tunnels. Over the 2 years of this trial, the yields of sweet cherry in this new system were increased by 9.5% and the percentage of high quality sweet cherry was increased by 80% compared to the traditional plastic greenhouse. In addition, the fruits appearance and flavour were better than that in the traditional greenhouse.
