Bosonic Casimir effect in external magnetic field

We compute the influence of an external magnetic field on the Casimir energy of a massive charged scalar field confined between two parallel infinite plates. For this case the obtained result shows that the magnetic field inhibits the Casimir effect.

Twistorial dynamics of complexified klein-gordon fields

A simple prescription is given whereby a twistor variational principle for massive charged scalar fields in complex Minkowski space may be built up in a natural way. The relevant action shows up as a Poincare-invariant functional of the corresponding twistor fields which is set upon a suitable eight-real-dimensional volume contained in the product of twistor space with its dual. It is shown that the equations of motion which arise out of appropriately working out the full dynamical statement coincide with the Penrose version of the Klein-Gordon equations for the Minkowskian fields. It is pointed out that the prescription can perhaps be utilized to derive twistor-diagram rules for higher-spin interacting systems.

Vacuum polarization at finite temperature around a magnetic flux cosmic string

We consider a general situation where a charged massive scalar field at finite temperature interacts with a magnetic flux cosmic string. We determine a general expression for the Euclidean thermal Green's function of the massive scalar field and a handy expression for a massless scalar field. With this result, we evaluate the thermal average and the thermal average of the energy--momentum tensor of a non-conformal massless scalar field.

Scalar Green's functions in an Euclidean space with a conical-type line singularity

In an Euclidean space with a conical-type line singularity, we determine the Green's function for a charged massive scalar field interacting with a magnetic flux running through the line singularity. We give an integral expression of the Green's function and a local form in the neighbourhood of the point source, where it is the sum of the usual Green's function in Euclidean space and a regular term. As an application, we derive the vacuum energy-momentum tensor in the massless case for an arbitrary magnetic flux.

Casimir force between two Aharonov-Bohm solenoids

The vacuum structure for the massive charged scalar field in the region of two parallel, infinitely long and thin solenoids confining the fluxesn1 andn2 is studied. By using the Green function method, it is found that the vacuum expectation value of the system's energy has a finite mutual interaction term depending on the distance a between the solenoids, which implies an attractive force per unit length given by F n1n2 =−(ℏc/π2)(n1n2)2/a3.

Axially symmetric Einstein-Maxwell and scalar fields with self gravitating stiff fluid

The problem of charged perfect fluid and massive scalar field is investigated in the spacetime described by a general axially symmetric Jordan-Ehlers metric with two degrees of freedom. It is shown that the meson restmass $$\bar M$$ and the cosmological constant vanish, the electromagnetic field becomes source free and the perfect fluid degenerates to become a stiff perfect fluid (P=π). A class of exact solutions has been obtained removing one of the metric potentials. A method is also suggested to generate the most general solution. The physical behaviour and region of validity of the solutions are studied analytically.
