Augmentation cystoplasty (AC) is a well-established technique for improving bladder compliance and capacity, preserving renal function, and minimizing incontinence due to severe detrusor overactivity. The popularity of AC has declined over the past decade due to the improved efficacy of other conservative therapies such as botulinum toxin. However, AC plays an important role in the management of refractory patients. Many patients requiring AC will also benefit from the creation of a continent catheterizable channel and bladder outlet surgery. Various augmentation and continent channel techniques are described, along with associated complications. In the appropriate patient, AC is an excellent treatment option that can improve bladder function and improve patients’ quality of life.
