Extraskeletal chondroma of the palpebral conjunctiva : A case report

AbstractPurpose To report one rare case of soft tissue chondroma of palpebral conjunctiva.Methods A 34‐year‐old female presented with one year history of a slowly enlarging painless mass arising in the left eye. There was no history of trauma or any medical problems. Physical examination revealed a placoid mass of the upper palpebral conjunctiva of the left eye. It was firm, round with 3.0mm diameter and not infiltrative with good‐defined margins.Results Excisional biopsy revealed a white hard tumor with no pus. Histological examination showed a neoplasm composed pilosebaceous glands and fibrous connective tissue with focal cartilage. The histopathology report was benign chondroma. At one month follow‐up, the patient was asymptomatic without infection and any evidence of recurrence.Conclusion This is one rare case of chondroma of palpebral conjunctiva. And no other cases were reported before in literature.

Soft tissue chondroma of the hard palate: A case report

Soft tissue chondroma of the palate is a rare lesion. We report a rare case of soft tissue chondroma of the hard palate with a review of the literature. A 59-year-old man was referred to our department because of a symptomatic mass on the median anterior margin of the hard palate of 4 year's duration. The lesion was approximately 15 mm × 10 mm × 8 mm in size and pedunculated. The lesion was excised under local anesthesia, and the pathological diagnosis was soft tissue chondroma. The histopathological findings suggested that the heterotopic formation of cartilage was caused by the metaplastic change of mesenchymal cells into chondrocytes. Postoperative wound healing has been uneventful, with no sign of recurrence during 2 years after surgery.

Extraskeletal chondroma of the masseter muscle: a case report with review of the literature

The authors report a case of soft tissue chondroma of the masseter muscle in a 49-year-old man. The tumour was entirely composed of lobules of hyaline cartilage. The literature on head and neck soft tissue chondroma is also reviewed. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first case of muscular soft tissue chondroma in the head and neck region.

Chondroma of the cheek: A case report

An extremely rare case of soft tissue chondroma occurring in the right cheek of a 47-year-old woman is reported. The localized nodular tumor was encapsulated and composed of hyalinized cartilage with fine calcifications. Most tumor cells were positive for vimentin and S-100 protein, but negative for cytokeratin, factor VIII, and smooth muscle actin. It seems likely that the tumor cells arise from uncommitted mesenchymal stem cells by metaplastic process.

Soft tissue chondromas are benign, relativery rare lesions, characterized by tenosynovial metaplastic origin, and they are predominantly located in the hands and feet.We report a case of soft tissue chondroma arising in the tendon of the biceps brachii, and briefly review the features of these lesions.
