Developing Management Model for Youth Basketball Clubs in Guangzhou City

Background and Aim: In recent years, Guangzhou Basketball Club has developed rapidly. However, at present, there are few studies on the current and future development goals, development evaluation, management mode, and long-term planning of Guangzhou Basketball Club, and the research depth is insufficient. Therefore, this paper will analyze the development and management model of youth basketball clubs in Guangzhou, and combine political, economic, and social factors to provide effective strategies and suggestions for the development of basketball clubs in Guangzhou. The main goal of this study is to construct a management model for the development of basketball clubs in Guangzhou. Materials and Methods: Literature review, expert interviews, and focus group questionnaires were used to ensure the authenticity and validity of the survey contents. Then, the development and management model of the basketball club was established and its effectiveness was verified. A total of 21 experts were interviewed in this study, and the experts were divided into three groups: the first group consisted of 5 experts to discuss and evaluate the development and management of youth basketball clubs in Guangzhou; The second group consisted of 9 experts to ensure input on the proposed POLC conceptual model; The third group consists of 7 senior experts who are responsible for evaluating and validating the developed POLC model. The POLC model is a management model that divides the management process into four basic functions: Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. Each function has its specific application process. Steps in developing the POLC model) research and discuss the management of the Guangzhou Youth Basketball Club; 2) evaluate and study the important elements of the POLC model and develop a POLC conceptual model; 3) develop a draft POLC model through focus group discussions to ensure expert input on the POLC conceptual model; 4) The POLC model is evaluated and validated by senior experts, and the POLC model is revised and finalized. Frequency, average statistics, and content analysis were used for data analysis. Result: Through the evaluation and verification of the POLC model for the development and management of Guangzhou Youth Basketball Clubs by experts, the four components of the model were finally determined: 1) The project management model includes six elements: government policy and support, market and demand, club strategy and business model, school and education, financial resources, challenges, and trends. 2) There are 5 factors in the organizational management model: organizational structure and system, human resources, marketing and promotion, risk management, and financial sustainability. 3) There are 7 factors in the leadership management model: professional development, innovation and culture, staffing and expertise, external factors, performance management, work-life balance, and employee engagement. 4) There are 5 factors of the control management model: quality assurance, performance measurement, financial control, risk management, competition, and development. Conclusion: In terms of the quality evaluation of the POLC model, senior experts have conducted a good evaluation and verification of the POLC model for the development and management of Guangzhou Youth Basketball Clubs, and believe that the model system is complete, clear and implementable.

Relevance of the Business Degrees offered at the State Technical University of Quevedo - Ecuador

This study analyzes the relevance and pertinence of the courses offered by the Faculty of Business Sciences of the State Technical University of Quevedo (UTEQ). The research is based on the needs of the labor market in Quevedo and its wide area of ​​influence, characterized by constant evolution and a growing demand for trained professionals. An exhaustive analysis of current economic trends was carried out, using statistical data from the Internal Revenue Service (SRI) and the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE) as a reference. These data were compared with information obtained from numerous interviews with experts in the sector. The results showed a significant demand for professionals in areas such as accounting, auditing, human talent management, business administration and marketing, considered essential for the growth of the business environment and the development of the local productive fabric. However, it was observed that the accounting and auditing career has a higher demand than the others, which suggests the need to reevaluate its curriculum to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, it was identified that the academic offer, together with advances in transformation and digital commerce, represents a source of new opportunities for graduates. In conclusion, the need to strengthen the link between academia and the local productive sector, develop soft skills and update educational programs to ensure the relevance of business careers in a dynamic and competitive labor context is emphasized.

Relationship between internal legal compliance culture, leadership style, organizational trust, and employee engagement in Vietnam’s banking sector

This study was conducted to explore and measure the relationship between leadership style, internal legal compliance culture, organizational trust, and employee engagement in the banking sector from the perspective of managerial perceptions. Data were collected through a survey of 386 managers currently working at 35 commercial banks in Vietnam. The results of the two-stage partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis indicate that managers’ leadership styles have a positive impact on the implementation of internal legal compliance culture and enhance employee engagement. Additionally, the enforcement of internal legal compliance culture positively increases organizational trust, which in turn influences employee engagement in the banking industry. The study’s findings provide empirical evidence on the influence of leadership style and the implementation of internal legal compliance culture on promoting stability and sustainable development in the banking sector of emerging economies. At the same time, the study emphasizes that a strong internal legal compliance culture not only ensures regulatory adherence but also fosters a work environment where employees feel valued and secure. When employees perceive that their organization operates ethically and transparently, they are more likely to develop a sense of engagement, thereby strengthening their overall involvement. This heightened engagement can lead to improved job performance, lower turnover rates, and greater organizational efficiency in the banking sector. Effectiveness of Open, High and Low Prices in Stock Market Price Prediction

Stock market price prediction is vital for investment decision amid difficulties with effective price predictions. The paper aims to analyse the rate of effectiveness in actual stock market price prediction using the open, high and low prices. The paper draws insight from diverse prior research with assorted models such as Markov Chain, time series and computer aided stock price prediction. The paper’s approach is quantitative with forty-three days stock market price data from S&P500 and Shanghai Composite Index. Data was analysed with the regression statistics. Results show that the open, high and low prices can significantly predict the actual market price at probability level of P<0.0001 for both the S&P500 Index and the Shanghai Composite Index. Prediction rates exceed 70% for S&P500 and over 80% for Shanghai Composite Index. The model was verified by using data other observation periods (during the COVID-19 and during the financial crisis). The implication therefore is that in the absence of other expensive market information, an average investor may use the open, high and low prices to make a useful prediction of actual stock market price. The findings present a useful case reading for academics in business schools and offer an agender for future research to apply this model in other stock markets. The paper offers a novel value from the finding by demonstrating that the showing that application of open, high and low prices with regression may give a prediction accuracy rate of over eighty percent, which is higher than reported seventy percent prediction rate in prior work that used other models.

Professional Development Needs for School Leaders: A Case of Lesotho Secondary School Principals

School principals are expected to become exceptional leaders due to the rapid upsurge of transformations in the education system. Although they are regarded as agents of change, principals are not adequately equipped to handle the management roles. This qualitative study explored Lesotho secondary school principals’ perceptions of their professional development and the need to enhance leadership. This study used the constructivism paradigm as a lens and was underpinned by complexity leadership theory. A multiple case study was adopted, and data was generated from five secondary school principals in five schools using semi-structured interviews and purposive sampling. Thematic data analysis was used to analyse data. The findings revealed that principals need capacitation in the use of the latest technologies as well as the skills to manage school finances. The findings further revealed that principals need empowerment with conflict management and basic school leadership skills. This paper recommends structured capacity-building programs from the Ministry of Education and Training on different aspects of leadership and management of schools. This paper recommends that the Ministry of Education and Training continuously review school principals’ professional development needs to organise structured, regular and appropriate professional development programs to assist them in their leadership roles.

Assessing Learning Management System success in the UAE universities: how quality measures linked to students' academic performance

Learning Management Systems (LMS) have become widely recognized tools for university learning worldwide and identifying the factors affecting students' academic performance has always been a major focus in both academia and practice. This study aims to develop a research model based on the Delone and McLean Information System Success Model to investigate the effects of quality measures on students' perceived usefulness, satisfaction, actual usage, and academic performance. Data collected from 118 business school students at two universities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were analyzed using the PLS-SEM approach to validate the research model. The data analysis revealed that eight combined quality measures have a positive and significant effect on students' perceived usefulness, perceived satisfaction, and actual use. In turn, each factor—perceived usefulness, perceived satisfaction, and actual use—has a positive and significant impact on students' academic performance. Further, we find that the following impact factors (perceived usefulness, perceived satisfaction, and actual use) mediate the relationship between quality measures and students' academic performance. Interestingly, this group of four variables—quality measures, perceived usefulness, perceived satisfaction, and actual usage—explains 84.9% of students' overall academic performance. Therefore, educational institutions seeking to achieve greater benefits from LMS should pay considerable attention to quality measures that directly impact students' usefulness, satisfaction, and actual usage, ultimately resulting in improved academic performance. These factors play a significant role in enhancing the overall quality of LMS and university education in the UAE and potentially in other countries as well.

Holixec Education: Experiential and Personalized Learning Implemented with Mindfulness

This commentary reflects on the valuable ideas presented by Dr. Batat, particularly her recognition that business education requires a new paradigm to remain relevant in the face of rapidly changing technologies. One of the key ideas in her paper is the shift from “interpretation” to “action,” where learners play a more active role in their educational journey. This focus on execution is increasingly important as the rise of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows computers to handle much of the data analysis, shifting the human role toward understanding, contextualizing, and executing the insights derived from that analysis. We agree that business education must evolve to emphasize doing—encouraging students to apply an execution mindset and leverage AI to analyze data. With AI's growing ability to identify patterns and perform complex analytics, students should focus on the critical implementation of these insights, turning them into actionable outcomes. While the ability of computers to process and analyze data is growing, humans need to bridge the gap between insights and real-world application. While the need for this paradigm shift is evident, several obstacles must be addressed to make it a reality with measurable benefits. One challenge is that business schools must move beyond prioritizing publications in top-tier disciplinary journals and recognize interdisciplinary contributions that may not always align with traditional disciplinary boundaries. We propose that embracing a broader recognition of scholarship and contributions can foster connections between research and the larger, more complex human challenges that business education needs to address. We also propose that business schools will need to provide support to faculty as they update their teaching pedagogy with strategies for including AI and experiential learning opportunities for students.

Behavioral Expectations of Business School Students Concerning Extreme Climate Events: Regional Insights and Implications for Southeast Europe

This article presents the role of environmental attitudes and self-efficacy in shaping the behavioral expectations of business students in Southeast Europe regarding extreme climate events. Conducted across twelve public and private business schools in five countries, the study provides a baseline for comparison with similar empirical research. Using multiple linear regression, we analyze the relationship between the pro-environmental attitudes and environmental self-efficacy to the students’ climate change expectations. Our results indicate that pro-environmental attitudes significantly predict the students’ expectations of extreme climate events, while environmental self-efficacy plays a secondary but statistically significant role. These findings extend the extant literature by focusing on the role of sustainability in business school curricula and the potential positive outcomes of experiential learning methods and approaches.

Academics’ psychological contract: applying discretionary effort

ABSTRACT Limited research has been conducted on the academic psychological contract and the role it plays in influencing academic behaviour. This qualitative study investigated the impact that the psychological contract has on 18 academics working across 9 university business schools, by understanding how they perceive the employment relationship, and how this perception influences their work activities with a particular focus on the application of discretionary effort. The research conducted followed an interpretivist design using semi-structured questions to seek out the lived experience of the academics. Findings suggest that discretionary effort is focused on what individuals perceive as being or not being academic work, but is not readily recognised as such; instead, it is considered part of the job, suggesting that perhaps it may be considered induced and is an outcome of increased managerialism in the sector. The outcomes of this research provide an interesting insight into the workings of academics and as such should enable improvements in the employment relationship between academics and their host university. The research investigates the construct of the psychological contract from a different perspective.

Qualitative Research in North American Journals: A Promising Trajectory and an Invitation

SYNOPSIS This perspectives article reflects on fostering an informed and diverse ecosystem in qualitative accounting research, with a particular focus on promoting openness to qualitative research in North American accounting journals. Drawing on personal accounts, discussions with editors, extant literature, and published research, we offer suggestions that collectively aim to help qualitative accounting research thrive. We highlight the significant investment required for informed qualitative research and provide guidance for those new to this landscape, urging North American business schools to allocate space for qualitative research and researchers. While acknowledging positive trends in publishing qualitative research, we recognize the need for additional progress and call for increasing diversity, drawing on the critical paradigm, and promoting a broader use of methods such as focus groups, vignettes, observations, case studies, and (net)ethnographies across all paradigms. These suggestions have implications for the broader qualitative research community and, importantly, for publishing in North American accounting journals. 경영대학 겸직교원제도를 활용한 학제간 융합연구 활성화 방안에 관한 연구

This study conducted a case study to analyze the current status of convergence research utilizing the concurrent faculty system along with the trends of interdisciplinary convergence research at home and abroad. In addition, in-depth interviews with experts were conducted to find ways to activate interdisciplinary convergence research by concurrent faculty members at business schools, and educational implications were presented. In order to activate interdisciplinary convergence research centered on business schools, the following were suggested: (1) establishing an interdisciplinary research center that can collaborate with various academic fields within the business school, (2) promoting practice-oriented interdisciplinary joint convergence research projects through industry-academia cooperation with companies, (3) establishing convergence courses and introducing joint degree programs between the business school and other disciplines, (4) promoting interdisciplinary cooperation by operating a networking program between the business school and researchers in other fields, (5) establishing a data sharing platform for interdisciplinary research and establishing convergence research infrastructure, (6) providing joint research funding and incentives for interdisciplinary convergence, (7) expanding interdisciplinary convergence research on a global scale, (8) expanding convergence research projects in which students can proactively participate in interdisciplinary research, (9) introducing an industry mentoring program to provide opportunities to collaborate with industry experts, and (10) strengthening social contribution activities and promoting them so that the results of interdisciplinary convergence research can contribute to solving social problems. Next, the following strategies were suggested as ways to activate interdisciplinary convergence research utilizing concurrent faculty members: policy support, structural support, research support, education and human resource development, promotion of networking and cooperation, performance evaluation and recognition, communication and information sharing, awareness raising, and culture formation.

The article focuses on the construction of the art and design training base at Zhejiang Vocational and Technical College of Commerce, which is supported by the central government. A Critical Review of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Business School Ranking Mechanisms: Assessment for Educational Policy Reforms

Business school rankings provide valuable insights for prospective students and employers, helping them make informed decisions about education and talent acquisition. This study critically analyses the process and mechanism of the world university ranking, especially for the business school ranking. It provides a good insight for policymakers to consider and incorporate the concerns in their policies. This research introduces a novel perspective by dissecting the evolving dynamics of business school rankings, unearthing fresh insights to inform policy decisions and shape the future of business education. It also incorporated structured interviews to more detail comprehend the phenomenon of interest. The study adopted purposive sampling to select respondent and collect their insights. This study offers a unique perspective on the complicated world of business school rankings, dissecting the process and mechanisms, and brings fresh insights essential for policy considerations and the evolution of business education. The study proclaims that ranking should not only be based on observable indicators but also consider their contribution to society. It pioneers a critical analysis that benefits prospective students and employers and provides a novel framework for policymakers to address pertinent concerns in their decision-making processes.

Empowering educators: A multi-case study investigating the transformative integration of generative AI tools for teaching in business education

This study investigates the transformative role of Generative AI (GenAI) tools in enhancing educators’ tasks and performance within higher education, utilizing the Technology-to-Performance Chain (TPC) model as a theoretical framework. The research focuses on how dimensions of Work Compatibility, Ease of Use, Ease of Learning, and Information Quality influence the adoption and perceived impact of GenAI on teaching effectiveness. Data were gathered through quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with 26 educators from a graduate business school in Peru. Results indicate that perceived performance improvements and the quality of AI-generated information are pivotal for successful adoption, while ease of use and learning, though valued, play a secondary role. The findings provide critical insights into the integration of emerging technologies in academic contexts, offering practical recommendations to educators, administrators, and policymakers aiming to leverage AI-driven tools for pedagogical innovation.

Assessing students’ critical thinking abilities via a systematic evaluation of essays

ABSTRACT In this paper, we address critical thinking skill assessment in the context of management education. This paper uses Ennis’ well-known list of critical thinking abilities to identify assessable critical thinking components present in student work. A sample of 152 graduate written assignments designed to assess critical thinking is used as a basis for analysis. These were taken from a business analysis subject in a large Australian business school over a 6-year period. A methodological framework is proposed and applied to this data set, offering a way of assessing evidence of five representative categories pertaining to critical thinking in a business context. The framework includes a basic clarification (BC), bases for inferences (BI), inferences (IN), advanced clarification (AC) and auxiliary abilities (AA). Results indicate that the essays rank highly on AA and AC but low on BC, BI and IN. While critical thinking is partially evidenced in the study corpus, attention is needed in terms of refining the measurement framework dedicated to eliciting specific critical thinking components. We provide the initial elements of such a framework in this paper and make suggestions for how it can be improved. Implications for the theory and practice of management education are outlined.

Guiding pedagogical change: an implementation template for effective faculty development

This communication presents the Implementation Template developed for a faculty development workshop at the Educational Development and Quality unit of the Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Denmark. The workshop focuses on the implementation of research-based strategies to enhance student learning. The template, shared in this piece for the learning development community to use or adapt, was designed to support faculty by prompting reflection, guiding peer conversations, and identifying relevant strategies to better support student learning in specific teaching contexts. The template has proved to be effective to help faculty self-assess their teaching practice and develop feasible implementation plans for learning enhancement in their courses.

The role of workplace incivility in organizational commitment at business school libraries: Work engagement and job burnout as mediators

This article examines the influence of workplace incivility on organizational commitment with the mediating role of job burnout and work engagement in Vietnamese business school libraries. Empirical research is conducted through collecting responses from 367 Vietnamese librarians. Linear regression analysis is used to challenge hypotheses. The results indicate that workplace incivility partially impacts on organizational commitment and job burnout. Also, job burnout mediates the relationship between workplace incivility and organizational commitment. This research broadens the theory of workplace incivility in business school libraries sector. The findings suggest several practical implications for Vietnamese business school libraries. Firstly, leaders and practitioners must establish several policies for librarians to decrease the negative influence of workplace incivility. Secondly, supervisors and leaders should provide practical training to support teachers in understanding the negative influence of workplace incivility and job burnout and finds ways to eliminate this problem. When no prior literature has investigated the association among four organizational variables in business school libraries, the findings aim to solve this gap.

The article examines the concepts of “competence” and “competency” from the perspectives of various re-searchers. A differentiation between these terms is conducted. The importance of developing employee com-petencies for career progression is emphasized. The aim of this study is to construct a competency profile for the modern manager. Competency sets for the years 2023–2024, as well as forecasts for 2026, have been analyzed based on research data provided by Sberbank and the Skolkovo School of Management. The analy-sis reveals a lack of static characteristics in the profile of the modern manager, highlighting the dynamic nature of required qualities, skills, and abilities. The competency profile of an effective manager undergoes transfor-mation in response to market conditions, the necessity of ensuring organizational competitiveness, and the shift from a client-oriented approach to a competency-based framework, which is fundamentally grounded in the effective human resource policy of the business structure. Furthermore, it is noted that for active career de-velopment, a symbiosis of digital, managerial, and professional competencies is essential. This amalgamation not only facilitates personal career advancement but also enhances organizational performance in an increas-ingly competitive landscape. It is concluded that the competence portrait of a modern leader presented in the article can serve as a basis for developing a management training plan for various fields, including business and education.

Enhancing international business competence: how cognitive and exposure training approaches matter

ABSTRACT This study draws insights from knowledge acquisition theory to examine how cognitive and exposure training approaches explain differences in international business competence (IBC). Following an interpretive phenomenological approach and in-depth interviews with 23 business school professors and 32 business executives on in-service training programs, the study finds that six major learning processes, which consolidate into cognitive-driven and exposure-driven training approaches, contribute to differences in IBC. The cognitive-driven training approach emphasizes the use of explicit knowledge activities, depth of interaction with internationally sourced academics and professionals, and breadth of international research and study contents to enhance IBC. Exposure-driven training focuses on fostering tacit knowledge activities, diversity of cultural experiences and skills, and participation in international affairs to build IBC. The implications of these findings for knowledge acquisition theory, practice, and policy are discussed.
