Research on the Collaborative Development of Business Administration Disciplines in Local Universities Based on the Construction of Scientific Research Platform

Scientific research is an important carrier in the discipline construction, and also the basis for the sustainable development of a discipline. There are deficiencies in the development of disciplines in local colleges and universities, which are reflected in the lack of coordination among disciplines, the insufficient support of scientific research for the construction of teaching staff and teaching reform, and the difficulty of disciplines to meet the current social talent demand, which also restricts the improvement of employment rate. This paper discusses the internal relationship between the construction of scientific research platform and discipline construction from the development process of business administration discipline, analyzes the factors restricting the development of business administration discipline in local colleges and universities, and proposes to build a high-level scientific research platform and strengthen the construction of characteristic disciplines or advantageous disciplines; Deepen the integration of scientific research platform resources, realize the cross-coordination among disciplines, and promote the transformation of scientific research achievements; Pay attention to the introduction and cultivation of high-level talents or leading talents, and build high-level research teams and other specific improvement measures.

Revising the Curriculum of Governance Teaching Post COVID-19

Governance has become a common part of teaching curriculums for most business schools, public administration schools and other related faculties. This paper questions the content of governance curriculums taught before COVID-19 pandemic in 5 European countries and provides a comparative assessment. Research findings indicate that apart from teaching general governance courses, governance is most often taught as specific for certain organizational or industrial context. This is followed with governance from perspective of leadership and change management, but also governance within business administration discipline of strategy. However, the intensity of governance as a topic within curriculums differs significantly. Only limited number of curriculums include resilience topics which have proven their importance during COVID-19 pandemic. Findings of this paper can be used to develop unitary and internationalized curriculums on governance studies at European universities in a post COVID-19 world.

Impact of online community interaction on value co-creation: Evidence from China

This paper explores the effect of online community interaction on value co-creation. The goal is to investigate internal factors influencing value co-creation through the SEM model and offer company managers effective management advice. This study investigates 485 customers in Xiaomi and Huawei online communities in China. An online questionnaire survey and convenient sampling are used, and a quantitative research method is adopted. The results of empirical analysis show that online community interaction, including human interaction (β = 0.141, p < 0.05) and human-computer interaction (β = 0.126, p < 0.05) positively affect value co-creation. Meanwhile, both human interaction (β = 0.300, p < 0.001) and human-computer interaction (β = 0.371, p < 0.001) significantly affect flow experience. Then flow experience (β = 0.689, p < 0.001) positively affects community identity and community identity (β = 0.488, p < 0.001) positively affects value co-creation. Yet, both human interaction (β = 0.051, p = 0.301) and human-computer interaction (β = 0.010, p = 0.858) do not significantly affect community identity. Flow experience (β = 0.032, p = 0.676) does not positively affect value co-creation. The results also show that neither flow experience alone nor community identity alone can play an intermediary role between online community interaction and value co-creation. Flow experience and community identity play a partial chain-intermediary effect between online community interaction and value co-creation. Finally, online community interaction, on the one hand, directly affects value co-creation, on the other hand, it indirectly affects value co-creation via chain-mediating factors comprised of flow experience and community identity. This study provides a theoretical foundation for companies to use psychological factors to promote customers taking part in value co-creation to enhance enterprise competitiveness. On the use and usefulness of theories and perspectives: A reply to Brunsson

The present paper is a reply to Brunsson (2021b), who wrote a commentary on the edited volume Theories and Perspectives in Business Administration (Eriksson-Zetterquist, Hansson & Nilsson, 2020). Although we agree with Brunsson on several points, we nevertheless argue that students need to learn about different theories and perspectives. First, the use of theories and perspectives as analytical tools will help students to describe and analyze a certain phenomenon. Second, to be able to theorize students need to acquire fundamental knowledge of the background and the specificities of the theory or perspective in use. Third, an awareness of the diversity of theories and perspectives that exists within the business administration discipline is a prerequisite to being able to contribute to the creation of new knowledge. Finally, we do not agree with Brunsson that the multitude of theories and perspectives in the business administration discipline is a sign of “an inferiority complex”. It is the outcome of the vitality and viability of the discipline.

The use and usefulness of theory

This commentary paper starts from the presumption that theory is a cherished academic concept, to which social scientists frequently refer, despite – or because of – the hazy meaning of this concept. What happens when the meaning of theory is clarified, and theories are described as distinct entities, even as tools to be used by all students within an academic discipline, such as that of business administration? It is suggested that full-fledged theories obstruct the usefulness of theory, which should be experience and intuition based and allow for discoveries, theorizing and new concepts. The history and traditional outlook of the business administration discipline help explain its devotion to theory.

Design and Implementation of the Data Detection System of Business Administration Discipline Based on Data Mining

Our times are developing rapidly. Because of the rapid development of computer technology, so led to the development of the times. So, in school all kinds of big and small things are basically replaced with computer systems to deal with. But it also has the effect that the data is redundant, so we need to use data mining algorithms to get the data we need. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to use data mining algorithm, to build a data detection system for business administration disciplines, and to evaluate and simulate its experiments. So, we effectively extract the reasonable data we need based on the security of all kinds of data, to package it and aggregate analysis. Finally, after investigation to measure the accuracy of this system. Experimental results show that the system can greatly reduce the workload of the teaching system, and accurately complete the work, compared with the previous speed of about 120% faster and more accurate, by the teachers and students alike.

Application of Flipped Classroom Based on Online Learning in University Business Administration Teaching

Business Administration is a sub-discipline of management, which mainly cultivates talents with knowledge and abilities in management, economics, law, business management, and production operations. With the development of Internet technology, the effective integration of online online learning and flipped classroom innovative teaching methods has enabled it to develop rapidly in college business management teaching, greatly improving the teaching efficiency of college business management subjects. This article puts forward some superficial suggestions based on the application of flipped classroom of online learning in business administration disciplines, in order to better improve the teaching quality of business administration disciplines in my country.

The Development of Business Administration Discipline and Education at the 60th Anniversary of the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration

이 글은 한국경영학회가 창립 40주년을 맞은 1997년에 기념논문으로 발표된 이후, 다시 20여 년의 변화를 정리하는 글이다. 한국 경영학은 1945년 광복 전에는 독일과 일본의 경영경제학의 영향 하에 있다가, 광복이후 미군정에 의한 실무와 제도에서 미국의 영향을 많이 받게 되었다. 그러다가 1950년대 중반 미국의 경영학교육 원조에 따라 각 대학에 경영학과가 설치되고, 경영자교육 및 교환교수제도가 활발히 이루어졌다. 1970년대 들어서 미국에서 경영학박사 학위를 취득하고 국내 대학에 교수로 임용된 수가 급격히 증가하였으며, 이후 미국식 경영학교육이 활발하게 확산되었다. 이후 2016년에는 전국 4년제 대학에 592개의 경영관련 학과가 개설되어 있고, 그 외에도 경영대학원과 경영전문대학원에서 경영교육이 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 이러한 양적인 경영학교육 확대에도 불구하고 아직도 한국경영학에 대한 연구는 초기 단계라고 할 수 있으며, 국내의 경영학자 양성은 이제 겨우 초보 단계를 벗어났다고 할 수 있다. 또한 국내학자들이 세계수준의 학술지에 다수 논문을 게재하지만 아직은 국내 대기업집단이나 K-Management를 기반으로 한 연구는 많지 않고, 해외학술지 게재가 교수 채용과 승진의 필수요건으로 작용하다보니 부작용 또한 발생하고 있다. 이제 우리 한국형 경영에 대한 실체 파악과 이를 다른 국가에 확산하려는 노력, 그리고 학부교육과 석사교육에서 이론만이 아닌 실무전문성을 강화하는 경영교육이 활발하게 이루어져야 할 것이다.

Facilitating students' project work with online collaborative support: A case from Business Administration Discipline at Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee)

Background ’Generation Z’ [1] students are immersed in digital technology, which has ‘a profound impact on their personalities, including their attitudes and approach to learning’ [2]. This ‘forces a change in the model of pedagogy... based on collaboration’ [3]. Collaborative learning is a social act through which learning occurs [4]. Over 90% of students in a survey found group work with peers was the most engaging [5]. To facilitate collaborative learning, online drives and communication tools are useful for matters such as time-saving, flexible access, and ease of sharing [6]. Moodle, the official learning management platform of the VTC, facilitates sharing of learning materials. Its discussion forum can support asynchronous exchange of ideas. The aim of the study is to explore whether online collaborative support is an effective means of facilitating students’ project work.

Shades of green: a social scientific view on bioeconomy in the forest sector

Politics increasingly introduces initiatives supporting a shift toward a bioeconomy aiming at a society relying strongly on renewable biological sources while achieving economic growth efficiently and sustainably. However, the agenda of bioeconomy comprises different “shades of green,” in the sense that different actors stress different aspects of the concept, when embracing it in communication. This conceptual paper aims to present policy and socioeconomic theoretical frameworks and research areas relevant for a more holistic understanding of the bioeconomy concept applied to the forest sector, and identify a core set of potential contributions from social sciences for enhancing the bioeconomy in the forest sector. The paper focuses on studies within policy analysis, economics, and business administration disciplines. Thus it presents diverse disciplinary perspectives on the forest sector in a bioeconomy. Furthermore, innovation and sustainability have been identified as issues relevant to be approached across these disciplines.

In Business Administration discipline there have been various views on leader’s statue and role in strategy formation. Who is the strongest in the internal environment of the organization? Does the leader form the strategies or organizational dynamics do so? Does the organization follow the strategy, or vice versa? Is there control over chaos or chaos over control in the organization? The aim of this study is to examine the control-chaos paradox stated in Mintzberg’s “Strategy Safari” book within the perspective of Entrepreneurial School, which is one of the ten schools of strategic management and to underline the initiative of the leader with his “entrepreneur-oriented character”.

Motivating University Researchers

This paper presents an empirical investigation into how universities approach the need and means for motivating university researchers through their management practices. The role of work motivation for this group deserves attention because pressures from outside and within the universities are said to have made university research less of a curiosity-driven activity and turned it more into ordinary work, with career opportunities and performance assessment connected with it. Interviews with research managers in the Business Administration discipline in The Netherlands have been analysed via the principles of a grounded theory approach. The analysis shows that the ways research managers deal with motivation issues cannot adequately be captured by how universities as employment systems define the typical core categories of work motivation theories, including goals, tasks, performance and competencies. A crucial role for understanding how motivation is — and is not — managed appears to lie in how individual and organizational understandings of work assessment, work processes and work context connect to the social mechanisms borrowed from the broader epistemic, discipline-specific communities outside the university.

Publicar é difícil ou faltam competências? O desafio de pesquisar e publicar em revistas científicas na visão de editores e revisores internacionais

Estudantes de doutorado e pesquisadores em todo o mundo enfrentam o desafio de publish or perish. Considerando que pesquisadores são avaliados por sua produtividade, a publicação de artigos em revistas indexadas e bem qualificadas é imprescindível. No entanto, nem sempre essa tarefa é fácil, já que o índice de rejeição de artigos para publicação vem crescendo anualmente, assim como o tempo médio entre a submissão e as avaliações de um trabalho que pode ou não resultar em publicação. Este artigo tem por objetivo identificar os principais motivos para a recusa de trabalhos brasileiros, na área de administração, em periódicos internacionais e sugerir como melhorar a efetividade dos autores no desenvolvimento de seus originais. O artigo é descritivo e exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa de cunho reflexivo e crítico. Apresentaremos algumas recomendações de editores e revisores de periódicos internacionais para o desenvolvimento de artigos de maior qualidade e para a criação de um pipeline de pesquisa. Pretendemos, assim, contribuir para que os pesquisadores desenvolvam investigação científica mais relevante.
