Analisis Kesesuaian Kurikulum DPIB SMK dengan Kebutuhan Pasar Kerja: Studi Wawancara dengan Lulusan dan Pengusaha Konstruksi

This study aims to analyze the suitability of the Building Information Modeling Design (BID) curriculum in Vocational High Schools (SMK) with the real needs in the job market, especially in the construction industry. Qualitative research methods were used through in-depth interviews with three groups of respondents: BID teachers, graduates working in the construction industry, and construction entrepreneurs. The results of the study indicate that the BID curriculum has provided a strong foundation for students, with basic competencies such as reading engineering drawings and project management. However, there are shortcomings in mastering the latest technology and developing soft skills. Graduates are often less prepared to face the demands of the industry that increasingly prioritize technology and collaboration. The existing Prakerin program also needs to be adjusted to be more relevant to industry needs. This study suggests the need for integration of modern technology in the curriculum, increased focus on soft skills, and further involvement in the Prakerin program to improve graduates' work readiness. Synergy between the world of education and industry is essential to ensure that graduates can contribute significantly to the competitive construction job market.

BIM-based search and selection of construction material suppliers: a dedicated framework and prototype

Purpose This study aims to address the key issues concerning supplier selection in traditional construction procurement by proposing an innovative, novel, state-of-the-art prototype plugin building information modelling – supplier search and ranking (BIM-SSR) and an associated conceptual framework. It enhances building information modelling (BIM) capabilities through web crawling and analytical hierarchy processes (AHP). It uses the World Wide Web to procure construction material suppliers. Design/methodology/approach Prevalent issues in traditional procurement of material suppliers have been identified through a rigorous literature review. Field experts vetted these issues. A framework has been presented to address these issues based on integrated web crawling and AHP as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method. A BIM prototype (BIM-SSR) has been developed using Python and plugged into Autodesk Revit to automate the search and evaluation of material suppliers based on precise material specifications from the BIM design. The BIM-SSR prototype is tested through a case study and validated by field professionals for its efficiency in tackling the identified issues. Findings Thirteen key issues have been identified concerning traditional construction procurement pertinent to supplier selection. Best-value procurement was encouraged by identifying supplier selection criteria such as cost, delivery time, experience, compliance with quality management standards, warranties, and claim period. The presented BIM-SSR prototype has an efficiency of 80%–95% in addressing the issues identified in this study and 97.5% effectiveness in improving the overall procurement management process. Originality/value The BIM-SSR prototype developed in this study is a novel and innovative addition to the body of knowledge that has been integrated into Autodesk Revit as a Plugin. Automation of supplier search and selection through digital technologies, including web crawling and integration of traditionally accepted MCDM methods such as AHP in BIM, is another innovation in the current study. Overall, this study presents a holistic, innovative system, from conceptual design to practical implementation and demonstration. This is one of the steps to help the traditional construction procurement process evolve into a more modern and digital procurement.

Utilizing Building Information Modelling Technology To Modelling Abutment: Revit

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has transformed the construction industry by offering a robust platform that integrates design, analysis, and construction processes within a single digital environment. This research explores the application of BIM technology, explicitly using Autodesk Revit, in modeling bridge abutments—an essential component in bridge construction that supports and distributes loads from the superstructure to the foundation. The study aims to demonstrate how BIM enhances the efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability of abutment design and construction. The methodology involves a comprehensive review of existing literature on BIM and bridge abutment design, focusing on technological advancements, case studies, and best practices. Additionally, practical implementation of BIM using Revit is conducted to develop detailed 3D models of abutments, incorporating architectural, structural, and geotechnical elements. The benefits of BIM in this context include improved collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, enhanced visualization capabilities for design optimization, and early detection of clashes and constructability issues. The research investigates the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with BIM to enhance site selection and environmental assessment phases, ensuring informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Innovations in materials science, such as the use of fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) and ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), are also considered for their potential to enhance the durability and longevity of bridge abutments. Ultimately, this study contributes to advancing the application of BIM in civil engineering, particularly in bridge construction, by showcasing Revit's capabilities in creating accurate, data-rich models that improve project outcomes.

BIM-Based Strategies for the Revitalization and Automated Management of Buildings: A Case Study

This study explores the transformative potential of integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Generative Design methodologies in heritage conservation and building management. By utilizing BIM, detailed architectural, structural, and MEP models were created, facilitating precise design and effective stakeholder collaboration. Generative Design enabled the exploration of multiple design solutions, optimizing spatial layouts and structural integrity. The project also integrated automated management systems and IoT sensors to enhance real-time monitoring, energy efficiency, and user comfort through the development of a digital twin. Despite encountering challenges such as technical complexities and budget constraints, the project successfully preserved the cinema’s historical essence while incorporating modern functionalities. The findings highlight the contributions of BIM and Generative Design to the AEC industry, emphasizing their role in improving design accuracy, operational efficiency, and sustainability. This research provides valuable insights for future projects in heritage conservation, offering a blueprint for balancing historical preservation with contemporary needs. The revitalization of the “Ex Cinema Santa Barbara” in Paternò exemplifies these advancements, demonstrating how these technologies can restore and modernize culturally significant historical buildings effectively.

BIM and Sustainable Design: A Review of Strategies and Tools for Green Building Practices

Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides a robust foundation for driving sustainability across architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) practices. This paper presents a systematic review of literature elucidating the confluence of BIM tools and processes with accelerated performance simulations and green building certification systems needed to guide environmentally sensitive design. Integrated Revit-Insight 360 is shown to enable 21% lower energy use intensity (EUI) and 8.5% reduced lifecycle costs over baseline for an office building through rapid multi-objective optimization spanning orientation, envelope and HVAC properties. Enhanced integrated platforms perform detailed thermal zoning analysis capturing realistic solar gains and heat storage effects, right-sizing heating equipment by 7.2% over conventional workflows. Further, BIM automation mitigates nearly 50-80% of manual calculations for BEAM Plus, LEED prerequisites and accelerates documentation for certification. However, interoperability issues inhibiting holistic sustainability evaluations persist due to lack of modeling standards. Emerging tools exemplify modular green assessment connecting multi-vendor engines to resolve underlying technical barriers. As BIM object definitions and seamless analytical integration matures, widespread mainstreaming for sustainability is foreseeable. While current measured metrics revolve around energy use, emissions and green certification, future work needs to address social and economic indicators also enabled by data-rich BIMs. Nevertheless, coupled with continuous monitoring for validation, BIM provides the foundation for the AEC industry to progress towards comprehensive sustainable building lifecycles.

In accordance with the important needs of our time, it is relevant to study the methods, the use of which is most appropriate for the restoration of damaged construction sites as a result of military aggression. Improving the quality of work control at each stage, reducing the cost and ensuring the safety of construction requires the use of innovative technologies, in particular building information modeling (BIM). The article analyzes in detail the features of BIM technologies, reveals the essence of BIM modeling and BIM model. In the work, the building information model is considered as a three-dimensional model, the task of which is to unite all participants in the construction process at each stage. An analysis of the differences between CAD design technology and BIM is carried out, the factors that determine the complexity of the implementation of BIM design in Ukraine are presented, the main points of the development of an effective BIM conception are structured. In addition, a study of foreign practices on the use of BIM to work with damaged objects requiring reconstruction is carried out. The results of the carried out study indicate the need to introduce BIM technologies as one of the basic steps towards digitalization of the construction industry. BIM technologies in modern realities are gradually becoming a priority of sectoral policy on the part of the State. In particular, the article presents the Conception, which contains the main provisions and mechanisms of the State policy aimed at laying the foundation for digital transformations of the construction industry. The importance of BIM technologies for improving the efficiency of construction is economically substantiated and confirmed by statistical data. The need to introduce BIM technologies as an innovative and more effective tool in the reconstruction and restoration of buildings is emphasized.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING: FINANCIAL AND ACCOUNTING ASPECT

Introduction. The implementation of building information modeling (BIM) technology is a promising direction in the development of the construction enterprise management system. It is advisable to use BIM technology also for economic purposes, which requires the study of financial and accounting features of the construction process in the conditions of digitization of management. The purpose of the article is to research the financial and accounting aspects of the use of building information modeling technology to optimize the management of construction enterprises. Results. The possibility of positioning individual construction objects (premises, floors, spatial zones) by operational centers of responsibility under the conditions of using BIM technology, which is the basis for the formation of a cluster structure of accounting and management of construction enterprises, is substantiated. The cluster is proposed to recognize a differentiated building object, which is an operational center of responsibility, which is in close relationship with various functional centers of responsibility and other clusters. The importance of positioning centers of responsibility simultaneously as centers of investments, incomes and expenses in the conditions of using BIM technologies, which involves a positive transformation of the method of processing financial and accounting information, is proven. In order to expand the functionality of the software for BIM purposes, the perspective of its improvement has been substantiated in the direction of: predicting options for forming planned estimates of construction costs with the adjustment of normative and actual costs; expansion of non-capital construction accounting methods; developing a procedure for assessing the damage caused by military actions in order to plan the need for financial resources for the restoration of destroyed or damaged buildings. In order to organize an effective information exchange between the participants of the construction process, it is necessary to ensure information synchronization between software for BIM design, accounting and management software products, electronic systems of business communications and electronic government. Conclusions. Expanding the functional and information capabilities of BIM technologies in terms of taking into account the financial and accounting aspects of construction, as well as ensuring information synchronization with current electronic services and document management systems, contributes to the formation of the newest concept of innovative smart construction.

Disruptive method for managing BIM design and construction using Kanban

Abstract Companies in the construction sector need effective information management. In particular, the transmission of information within a company is key to improving its management and competitiveness. Currently, many companies in the construction sector are making a great effort to implement the building information modelling (BIM) methodology. Such implementation requires collaborative work through the Cloud between the different agents in the construction process of any project. In fact, information management in BIM projects is related to the creation, storage, transfer and efficient application of information within a three-dimensional (3D) virtual model of the project. The size of the project also determines the optimal management approach. The main problems resulting from poor information management may be a lack of coordination between actors, loss of information or misinterpretation of information. This work has two stated objectives. The first objective is to carry out a literature review of the applications of BIM technology and the importance of managing knowledge according to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO)- 19650. The second objective is to propose a disruptive method based on the Kanban tool to properly manage BIM information in the design and construction phases. This paper has practical implications for the improvement of BIM application for project managers.

Research on Optimization of Project Design Management Process Based on BIM

With the rapid advancement of the informatization process of China’s construction industry, the requirements for the integration of engineering design and construction are getting higher and higher. The quality of engineering design and the level of design management directly affect the quality of construction. The emergence of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional contracting model, but it is still not ideal in terms of work integration and information transmission. BIM (building information modeling) is a collaborative process of creating, managing and exchanging information throughout the construction project. BIM has revolutionized the construction, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. This paper examines the problems related to current project design management in China and their causes. On the basis of summarizing the existing research on design management, it introduces a form of BIM integrating design BIM and construction BIM, so as to better depict the leading role of design in the construction process. By analyzing the changes in organizational management and communication methods brought about by BIM, this paper optimizes and innovates upon the traditional project design process in view of the problems in project practice. It advances BIM design work, increases detailed BIM design work and enables the downstream participants to intervene in the design stage, so as to develop a more smooth and efficient design workflow, which provides operable work detail guidance for BIM-based design management in the future.

From Sustainability to Regeneration: a digital framework with BIM and computational design methods

Design methods, frameworks, and green building certifications have been developed to create a sustainable built environment. Despite sustainability advancements, urgent action remains necessary due to climate change and the high impact of the built environment. Regenerative Design represents a shift from current practices focused on reducing environmental impacts, as it aims to generate positive effects on both human and natural systems. Although digital design methods are commonly employed in sustainable design practice and research, there is presently no established framework to guide a digital regenerative design process. This study provides an analysis of existing literature on regenerative design and digital design methods and presents a framework based on building information modelling (BIM) methodology and computational design methods, that can be applied to both urban and building design. This framework identifies digital tools and organizes indicators based on the pillars of climate, people, and nature for regenerative design, drawing upon a comprehensive analysis of literature, including standards, sustainability frameworks and research studies. The framework is illustrated through a case study evaluation. The paper also highlights the potential and limitations of digital methods concerning regenerative design and suggests possibilities for future expansion by incorporating additional quantifiable indicators that reflect research developments, to achieve positive outcomes.

The Influence of Industrial Work Practices on Student Work Readiness at Smk Negeri 1 Cilaku

Background: Internship is one of the programs implemented to connect vocational schools with the working world. Working readiness is the ability to carry out or complete in accordance with the predetermined conditions. In this case, this research was carried out to: (1) know the description of internships carried out by vocational school students; (2) know the description of the working readiness of students after participating in internship activities; and (3) know the effect of internship on working readiness of final year students in building information modelling design at SMKN 1 Cilaku.Methods: There are two variables studied in this research, including industrial work practices (X) and work readiness (Y). The research method used in this research is a quantitative method, while in order to answer the problem, the authors used a trend test and simple linear regression analysis. Furthermore, the data collection was done using questionnaires with a Likert scale.Results: Based on the findings and discussion, (1) internship outcomes have a tendency of quite decent with an average score of 79%, (2) working readiness outcomes have a tendency of quite decent with an average score of 79%, and (3) internship on working readiness have a positive and significant influence and the influence of internship on working readiness by 42%.Conclusion: It can be concluded that the implementation of industrial work practices in Cilaku State Vocational School 1 students has a tendency to be in the sufficient category, class student work readiness is in the sufficient category, and industrial work practices have a positive influence on student work readiness. In other words, students are quite ready to enter the world of work.

Development of building information modeling-based automation assessment process for universal design of public buildings

AbstractThe aging population is growing drastically all over the world. With the advent of the global era, universal design is garnering considerable interest, as the number of multicultural families is increasing, and various user classes are being created. In addition, with the advances in construction technology, architectural design is becoming more diverse, and convenience facilities are also getting distributed in various ways. As a result, more buildings need to apply universal design, indicating that various architectural information and universal design for the user class are required. Various data are needed for universal design evaluation, but there is a limit to evaluating with two-dimensional (2D) drawings. However, the limitations of 2D drawings can be overcome via building information modeling (BIM) combined with architectural data, which remarkably simplifies the universal design evaluation. This study was conducted with the aim to analyze architectural information by extracting architectural elements necessary for universal design evaluation from BIM data. It was confirmed that the calculations for universal design evaluation can be performed by 3D shape or attribute analysis using BIM data and computer programming. In order to create an automated evaluation algorithm for universal design, the evaluation methods were classified according to the universal design evaluation guide, based on building users and user diversity. In addition, even if the evaluation methods were the same by location, different points were classified by location, and evaluation items and information necessary for the evaluation were organized by category for each facility. Through this classification, we created an algorithm with seven types of methods for extracting the BIM data and comparing them by evaluation method for an automated analysis. In addition, an analysis was performed directly on the BIM design sample model using an automated evaluation algorithm. Although there were various architectural objects in the design data, evaluation was possible using algorithms. By applying the universal design evaluation and BIM data evaluation methods, we could confirm that the BIM-based universal design automation evaluation method prevents human error and is thus superior to the existing evaluation methods. Further, the automation evaluation method can contribute to BIM activation as the BIM data can be used in various studies such as design certification evaluation and automation analysis.

BIM-Based Timber Formwork Design and Modeling

Building information modeling (BIM) is one of the most promising new technological developments that can be used to facilitate design and construction automation. Prior BIM research has primarily focused on permanent building components; temporary structures such as scaffolding and concrete formwork have received little attention. The design and planning of concrete formwork systems, however, would substantially benefit from the capabilities of BIM. Formwork design is repetitive and can be very time-consuming due to the need to analyze multiple parameters of individual permanent components, the latest formwork design guidelines, methods, and procedures, and the available materials. In this study, a BIM-based tool is developed and proposed to assist designers and builders in planning, designing, and generating concrete formwork design models for planning purposes. By integrating the design procedures recommended by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the streamlining tool automates the design and modeling process for timber concrete formwork through an application programming interface (API) in Revit. The workability of the proposed tool was demonstrated through a case study. The study also employed the survey method to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed tool and its potential for improving worker safety and health from the perspectives of formwork professionals. Using the tool, form designers and planners will be able to determine the most applicable formwork design based on the permanent facility structure along with the availability of construction materials, site conditions present, and worker safety and health considerations. The study also provides contractors with a new tool for planning concrete operations and expands the scope of BIM design.

Green Building Information Modelling to Raise the Efficiency of a Residential Building in the New Administrative Capital

Recent economic and population growth patterns in Egypt almost guarantee that energy consumption and emissions will continue to rise rapidly if nothing changes. According to the United Nations Development Program, Egypt’s energy demand will have been triple by 2030. Additionally, Egypt’s total emissions from energy use have been increased eightfold since 1971. The construction industry has been pushed to adopt sustainable building strategies, and the consensus among researchers and practitioners is that the most important phase to make decisions about is during the early stages of design. Arguably, high-performance buildings require a different design mechanism than traditional methods to achieve a holistic, sustainable outcome. Indeed, Building Information Modelling (BIM) can greatly facilitate the informed sustainability in buildings. Although BIM and sustainable design emerge from different underlying factors, they share an important common thread: the success of both depends on large part of building design philosophy loaded from the start. In fact, BIM can greatly facilitate the informed sustainability in buildings. Within the framework of reviewing the literature, researchers concluded the importance of BIM in the early stages of building design. The authors conducted an applied case study to evaluate a residential building in the new Administrative Capital in Cairo, Egypt, and concluded a set of design upgrades to raise the energy efficiency of the building and reduce carbon emissions from operating energy.

Reinforced Soil Structures: From Standard Design to BIM

Building Information Modeling (BIM) emerges as a new process for the architectural, structural, engineering and construction sectors. It is based on three-dimensional (3D) parametric models which centralizes geometrical, physical and project information. The implementation of BIM within the Geotechnical Engineering sector has not reached yet a good level of robustness, frequently appearing as a new concept. BIM methodology in geotechnics and in the design of Reinforced Soil Structures (RSS) represents an opportunity which could enable the AECO world (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner and Operator) to implement the infrastructural BIM, managing complex projects. With BIM, it is possible to improve the construction quality and reduce the wastage of the supplied materials as it allows an overview of the construction models through multidimensional digital design solutions which provide simulation and analysis by using different design software. This paper aims to clarify issues which might arise during the BIM design of RSS. In particular, this paper presents the case of a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall which comprises precast concrete facing panels and discrete high adherence polymeric soil reinforcing strips. The application of BIM technology in this research provides guidelines for design optimization and construction improvement.

개방형 BIM 기반 발주-설계 협업 프로세스의 표준 프레임워크 적용방안

With the increasing, complexity, and advanced environmental changes, the paradigm of architectural design is being transformed from a two-dimensional (2D) design to a three-dimensional (3D) design. In particular, according to the active needs of the project owner, institutional guidelines are being developed in the construction field to utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to efficiently manage construction information. However, contrary to this increasing trend, the case of conducting domestic BIM projects has been pointed out as problems such as the lack of systematic management system, lack of standard work performance processes and standards, and lack of information-compatible systems for participants. In this study, we proposed project Owners-architect design collaboration process between Client and practitioners reflecting the KBIMS (Korea BIM Standard) standard framework developed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Land R&D ‘OpenBIM Research Group’. Furthermore, in the BIM implementation plan and the BIM design work phase, we presented a checklist that should be shared between the owner-design, so that the project can be carried out through communication and collaboration rather than the work flow of unilateral reporting and approval.

Streamlining the Decision- Making Process on Tubular Rigid Busbar Selection During the Planning / Designing Stage by Utilizing 3D Substation BIM Design Software

For Utilities, each substation is regarded as an asset. Managing of assets is one of domains of Asset Management including Life Cycle Costing (LCC) as a decision-making criterion. However, LCC as a decision-making criterion should be applied on an entire substation taking into account all of the potential cost influences for the purpose of achieving of an effective substation management. Asset management as a decision-making process should be observed within a larger context and should be more focused on risk management, as all real decisions include an element of risk due to present uncertainties. Two promising avenues are explored in regards to more comprehensive and rigorous up-front planning through usage of Information Technology (IT). While up-front planning falls under the domain of Lean philosophy, Building Information Modeling (BIM) falls under the category of agile decision-support tools. Utilization of both is explored from a perspective of design-uncertainties under both product and process design. Standard specifications and standard designs are another form of applied Lean Philosophy that reduces design-uncertainty and variability. However, a range of technical solutions stemming out of the standardization can be quite wide. Customization involves specification and design of new / innovative designs with wide range of technical solutions as well. Due to external pressures focused on shortening of the project delivery time, there is a need for a faster project time throughput. This is reflected in the form of a requirement for more rapid engineering decision-making and faster decision cycles. Streamlining of a decision-making process related to the engineering is all about engineers’ awareness of the situation from the project level perspective coupled with utilization of decision-support tools for creation and reuse of knowledge. Plan – Do – Study – Orient (PDSO) cycle is a decision-making model that supports creation and reusability of knowledge along with providing an explanation in regards to the time dimension relating to decision-making, and as such is presented in this paper. The rigid busbar system design is an iterative process influenced by many factors, defined either as design variables or design constraints. As rigid busbars are gaining more popularity for both greenfield and brownfield investments, the rigid busbar system design is explored from a perspective of decision-making streamlining. The case of the rigid busbar system design of El Chaparral project in El Salvador is given.
