Holographic study on Einstein ring for a charged black hole in conformal gravity

Under the help of AdS/CFT correspondence, the Einstein ring of a charged black hole in conformal gravity has been studied. As an alternative to standard Einstein’s theory, the conformal gravity is both renormalizable and unitary. And such conformal theory can naturally solve some troublesome problems in physics, such as the quantum gravity problem, the dark matter problem and so on. Considering the conformal gravity has many advantages, therefore in this paper, we study Einstein ring and the effect of gravity-related parameters c0, temperature T and chemical potential u on such Einstein ring in the conformal gravity through the holographic method. Explicitly, imposing an oscillating Gauss source on one side of the AdS boundary which propagates in the bulk, the response functions are derived on the other side of the boundary. Given the proposed wave optics system, the Einstein rings are observed as expected. All these results reveal that when the observer locates at the north pole, there always exists the Einstein ring and surrounding concentric stripes. And such ring becomes into a luminosity-deformed ring or light spot while the observer departs away from the north pole. We also investigate the effect of temperature T, chemical potential u and gravity-related parameters c0 on the ring radius. We find the ring radius increases with the decrease of the temperature, increase of the chemical potential, and increase of the gravity-related parameters respectively. And more, in conformal gravity, because the charge does not appear in the metric but is given by the constraint relation, the chemical potential affects the radius of the ring differently compared with that in Einstein’s gravity. To check the results in the framework of holography, we investigate the ingoing angle of photon at the photon ring via geometric optics and find it is consistent with the angle of Einstein ring obtained via holography.

Images of nonsingular nonrotating black holes in conformal gravity

The accretion disk around a black hole and its emissions play an essential role in theoretical analysis of the black hole image. In the literature, two analytical toy models of accretions are widely adopted: the spherical model and the thin disk model. They are different geometrically but both thin optically. We polish them for free-falling accretions around static spherical black holes. As an application, we investigate the images of a class of nonsingular black holes conformally related to the Schwarzschild black hole. These black holes are vacuum solutions of a family of conformal gravity theories. Results are compared with the Schwarzschild black hole of the same mass. Our results indicate that the conformal factor does not affect the shadow radius seen by distant observers, but it leaves an imprint on the intensity image of black hole.

Restricted phase space thermodynamics of charged AdS black holes in conformal gravity* *Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (12275138)

The thermodynamics of charged spherically symmetric AdS black holes in conformal gravity is revisited using the recently proposed restricted phase space (RPS) formalism. This formalism avoids all the bizarreness arising in the extended phase space formalism for this model. It is found that the charged AdS black holes in this model may belong to a new universality class that is different from all previously studied cases under the RPS formalism. Besides the distinguished isocharge and isothermal behaviors, the absence of the Hawking-Page transition is another notable feature. However, in the high temperature limit, the thermodynamic behavior of the present model becomes exactly the same as that of the Einstein gravity and black hole scan models, which adds further evidence for the universality of the recently reported correspondence between high temperature AdS black holes and low temperature quantum phonon gases in nonmetallic crystals.

Joule-Thomson effect of AdS black holes in conformal gravity

We investigate the Joule-Thomson effect of AdS black holes in conformal gravity. We derive the Joule-Thomson coefficient in terms of thermodynamic relations and then make an alternative derivation via a direct way. We analyze the Joule-Thomson coefficient and find that the Joule-Thomson coefficients obtained from two different approaches are equal. Moreover, we present a novel isenthalpic process in which the inversion temperature is minimal and it separates the corresponding heating-cooling phase. We analyze the inversion temperature and its corresponding inversion curve that separates the regions for the JT effect to be allowable and forbidden, where such an effect can only be observed in the allowable region. We also discuss the effects of two important parameters on the inversion curves.

A black hole solution in conformal supergravity

We present a three-parameter family of analytic black-hole solutions in the bosonic sector of a four-dimensional supersymmetric model with matter fields in the adjoint representation. The solutions are endowed with a curvature and torsional singularities which are both surrounded by an event horizon. They are asymptotically Lorentz flat, representing the torsional generalization of the Riegert black hole in conformal gravity. We compute the partition function to first order in the saddle-point approximation which turns out to be finite without any reference to boundary counterterms. We find a non-maximmally symmetric thermalized ground state, whose existence is relevant when studying Hawking-Page phase transitions. Finally, we discuss future directions regarding its extended phase space.

Photon regions, shadow observables, and constraints from M87* of a charged rotating black hole

Inspired by the observations of supermassive black hole M87* in \emph{Event Horizon Telescope }(EHT) experiment, a remarkable surge in black hole physics is to use the black hole shadow's observables to distinguish general relativity (GR) and modified theories of gravity (MoG), which could also help to disclose the astrophysical nature of the center black hole in EHT observation. In this paper, we shall extensively carry out the study of a charged rotating black hole in conformal gravity, in which the term related with the charge has different falloffs from the usual Kerr-Newman (KN) black hole. We investigate the spacetime properties including the horizons, ergospheres and the photon regions; afterward, we show the boundary of black hole shadow and investigate its characterized observables. The features closely depend on the spin and charge parameters, which are compared with those in Kerr and KN black holes. Then presupposing the M87* a charged rotating black hole in conformal gravity, we also constrain the black hole parameters via the observation constraints from EHT experiment. We find that the constraints on the inferred circularity deviation, $\Delta C \lesssim 0.1$, and on the shadow axial ratio, $1< D_x \lesssim 4/3$, for the M87* black hole are satisfied for the entire parameter space of the charged rotating black hole in conformal gravity. However, the shadow angular diameter $\theta_d = 42 \pm 3 \mu as$ will give upper bound on the parameter space. Our findings indicate that the current charged rotating black hole in conformal gravity could be a candidate for astrophysical black holes. Moreover, the EHT observation on the axial ratio $D_x$ may help us to distinguish Kerr black hole and the current charged rotating black hole in conformal gravity in some parameter space.

Hawking radiation from nonrotating singularity-free black holes in conformal gravity

In this paper, we study the sparsity of Hawking radiation from nonrotating singularity-free black holes in conformal gravity. We give a rigorous bound on the greybody factor for massless scalar field and calculate the sparsity of Hawking radiation from the black hole. Besides, we investigate the dependence of the bound of the greybody factor and the sparsity of Hawking radiation on the conformal parameters, respectively. Our study shows that when the conformal parameters are large, the increase of conformal parameters will lead to a more sparse Hawking radiation, while to a less sparse Hawking radiation if the conformal parameters are small.

Distinct thermodynamic and dynamic effects produced by scale factors in conformally related Einstein-power-Yang-Mills black holes

We study the thermodynamics and dynamics of high-dimensional Einstein-power-Yang-Mills black holes in conformal gravity. Specifically, we investigate a class of conformally related black holes whose metrics differ by a scale factor. We show that a suitable scale factor cures the geodesic incompleteness and the divergence of Kretschmann scalars at the center of black holes. In the aspect of thermodynamics, we analyse the Hawking temperature, the entropy, and the specific heat, and verify the existence of second-order phase transitions. We find that the thermodynamics of this class of conformally related black holes is independent of scale factors. In the aspect of dynamics, we find that the quasinormal modes of minimally coupled scalar field perturbations are dependent on scale factors. Quite interesting is that the behavior of quasinormal mode frequencies also supports the independence of scale factors for the second-order phase transitions. Our results show that the scale factors produce distinct thermodynamic and dynamic effects in the conformally related Einstein-power-Yang-Mills black holes, which provides an interesting connection between thermodynamics and dynamics of black holes in conformal gravity.

Geodesic motion in the spacetime of a SU(2)-Colored (A)dS black hole in conformal gravity

In this paper, we study the geodesic motion in the spacetime of a SU(2)-colored (A)dS black hole in conformal gravity, and also we investigate spacetime features, such as light spheres and horizons. Moreover, we derive the analytical solutions for the equation of motion of test particles and light rays using Weierstrass elliptic and Kleinian \(\sigma \) functions. Depending on the particle energy levels and angular momentums, we classify the solutions of the geodesic equations. Furthermore, several examples of possible types of orbits illustrate the results.

Matter accretion onto a conformal gravity black hole

The accretion of test fluids flowing onto a black hole is investigated. Particularly, by adopting a dynamical Hamiltonian approach, we are capable to find the critical points for various cases of black hole in conformal gravity. In these cases, we have analyzed the general solutions of accretion employing the isothermal equations of state. The steady state and spherically symmetric accretion of different test fluids onto the conformal gravity black hole has been considered. Further, we have classified these flows in the context of equations of state and the cases of conformal gravity black hole. The new behavior of polytropic fluid accretion is also discussed in all three cases of black hole. Black hole mass accretion rate is the most important part of this research in which we have investigated that the Schwarzschild black hole produce a typical signature than the conformal gravity black hole and Schwarzschild–de Sitter black hole. The critical fluid flow and the mass accretion rate have been presented graphically by the impact parameters beta , gamma , k and these parameters have great significance. Additionally, the maximum mass rate of accretion fall near the universal and Killing horizons and minimum rate of accretion occurs in between these regions. Finally, the results are compared with the different cases of black hole available in the literature.

Charged particle motion around non-singular black holes in conformal gravity in the presence of external magnetic field

We consider electromagnetic fields and charged particle dynamics around non-singular black holes in conformal gravity immersed in an external, asymptotically uniform magnetic field. First, we obtain analytic solutions of the electromagnetic field equation around rotating non-singular black holes in conformal gravity. We show that the radial components of the electric and magnetic fields increase with the increase of the parameters L and N of the black hole solution. Second, we study the dynamics of charged particles. We show that the increase of the values of the parameters L and N and of magnetic field causes a decrease in the radius of the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) and the magnetic coupling parameter can mimic the effect of conformal gravity giving the same ISCO radius up to omega _{mathrm{B}}le 0.07 when N=3.

Magnetized Particle Motion around Black Holes in Conformal Gravity: Can Magnetic Interaction Mimic Spin of Black Holes?

Magnetized particle motion around black holes in conformal gravity immersed in asymptotically uniform magnetic field has been studied. We have also analyzed the behavior of magnetic fields near the horizon of the black hole in conformal gravity and shown that with the increase of conformal parameters L and N the value of angular component of magnetic field at the stellar surface decreases. The maximum value of the effective potential corresponding to circular motion of the magnetized particle increases with the increase of conformal parameters. It is shown that in all cases of neutral, charged and magnetized particle collisions in the black hole environment the center-of-mass energy decreases with the increase of conformal parameters L and N. In the case of the magnetized and negatively charged particle collisions, the innermost collision point with the maximum center-of-mass energy comes closer to the central object due to the effects of the parameters of the conformal gravity. We have applied the results to the real astrophysical scenario when a pulsar treated as a magnetized particle is orbiting the super massive black hole (SMBH) Sgr A* in the center of our galaxy in order to obtain the estimation of magnetized compact object’s orbital parameter. The possible detection of pulsar in Sgr A* close environment can provide constraints on black hole parameters. Here we have shown that there is degeneracy between spin of SMBH and ambient magnetic field and consequently the interaction of magnetic field ∼ 10 2 Gauss with magnetic moment of magnetized neutron star can in principle mimic spin of Kerr black holes up to 0.6 .

Gravitational perturbations of nonsingular black holes in conformal gravity

It is believed that in the near future, gravitational wave detections will become a promising tool not only to test gravity theories, but also to probe extremely curved spacetime regions in our universe, such as the surroundings of black holes. In this paper, we investigate the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of the axial gravitational perturbations of a class of non-singular black holes conformally related to the Schwarzschild black hole. These non-singular black holes can be regarded as the vacuum solution of a family of conformal gravity theories which are invariant under conformal transformations. After conformal symmetry is broken, these black holes produce observational signatures different from those of the Schwarzschild black hole, such as their QNM frequencies. We assume that the spacetime is described by the Einstein equation with the effective energy momentum tensor of an anisotropic fluid. The master equation describing the QNMs is derived, and the QNM frequencies are evaluated with the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) method up to the 6th order. As expected, the QNM spectra of these non-singular black holes deviate from those of the Schwarzschild black hole, indicating the possibility of testing these black hole solutions with the help of future gravitational wave detections.

Singularity-free black holes in conformal gravity: New observational constraints

We consider the family of singularity-free rotating black hole solutions in Einstein's conformal gravity found in Bambi C. et al., JCAP, 05 (2017) 003 and we constrain the value of the conformal parameter L from the analysis of a NuSTAR observation of the stellar-mass black hole in GS 1354–645 during its outburst in 2015. Our new constraint is much stronger than that found in previous work. Here we obtain (99% confidence level, statistical uncertainty only).

Formation and evaporation of an electrically charged black hole in conformal gravity

Extending previous work on the formation and the evaporation of black holes in conformal gravity, in the present paper we study the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric and electrically charged thin shell of radiation. The process creates a singularity-free black hole. Assuming that in the evaporation process the charge Q is constant, the final product of the evaporation is an extremal remnant with M=Q, which is reached in an infinite amount of time. We also discuss the issue of singularity and thermodynamics of black holes in Weyl’s conformal gravity.

Scalar perturbations of nonsingular nonrotating black holes in conformal gravity

We study scalar and electromagnetic perturbations of a family of nonsingular nonrotating black hole spacetimes that are solutions in a large class of conformally invariant theories of gravity. The effective potential for scalar perturbations depends on the exact form of the scaling factor. Electromagnetic perturbations do not feel the scaling factor, and the corresponding quasinormal mode spectrum is the same as in the Schwarzschild metric. We find that these black hole metrics are stable under scalar and electromagnetic perturbations. Assuming that the quasinormal mode spectrum for scalar perturbations is not too different from that for gravitational perturbations, we can expect that the calculation of the quasinormal mode spectrum and the observation with gravitational wave detectors of quasinormal modes from astrophysical black holes can constrain the scaling factor and test these solutions.

Fermionic field perturbations of a three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole in conformal gravity

We study the propagation of massless fermionic fields in the background of a three-dimensional Lifshitz black hole, which is a solution of conformal gravity. The black-hole solution is characterized by a vanishing dynamical exponent. Then we compute analytically the quasinormal modes, the area spectrum, and the absorption cross section for fermionic fields. The analysis of the quasinormal modes shows that the fermionic perturbations are stable in this background. The area and entropy spectrum are evenly spaced. In the low frequency limit, it is observed that there is a range of values of the angular momentum of the mode that contributes to the absorption cross section, whereas it vanishes in the high frequency limit. In addition, by a suitable change of variables a gravitational soliton can also be obtained and the stability of the quasinormal modes are studied and ensured.

Black hole evaporation in conformal gravity

We study the formation and the evaporation of a spherically symmetric black hole in conformal gravity. From the collapse of a spherically symmetric thin shell of radiation, we find a singularity-free non-rotating black hole. This black hole has the same Hawking temperature as a Schwarzschild black hole with the same mass, and it completely evaporates either in a finite or in an infinite time, depending on the ensemble. We consider the analysis both in the canonical and in the micro-canonical statistical ensembles. Last, we discuss the corresponding Penrose diagram of this physical process.

Spacetime completeness of non-singular black holes in conformal gravity

We explicitly prove that the Weyl conformal symmetry solves the black hole singularity problem, otherwise unavoidable in a generally covariant local or non-local gravitational theory. Moreover, we yield explicit examples of local and non-local theories enjoying Weyl and diffeomorphism symmetry (in short co-covariant theories). Following the seminal paper by Narlikar and Kembhavi, we provide an explicit construction of singularity-free spherically symmetric and axi-symmetric exact solutions for black hole spacetimes conformally equivalent to the Schwarzschild or the Kerr spacetime. We first check the absence of divergences in the Kretschmann invariant for the rescaled metrics. Afterwords, we show that the new types of black holes are geodesically complete and linked by a Newman-Janis transformation just as in standard general relativity (based on Einstein-Hilbert action). Furthermore, we argue that no massive or massless particles can reach the former Schwarzschild singularity or touch the former Kerr ring singularity in a finite amount of their proper time or of their affine parameter. Finally, we discuss the Raychaudhuri equation in a co-covariant theory and we show that the expansion parameter for congruences of both types of geodesics (for massless and massive particles) never reaches minus infinity. Actually, the null geodesics become parallel at the r=0 point in the Schwarzschild spacetime (the origin) and the focusing of geodesics is avoided. The arguments of regularity of curvature invariants, geodesic completeness, and finiteness of geodesics' expansion parameter ensure us that we are dealing with singularity-free and geodesically-complete black hole spacetimes.

Quasinormal modes and greybody factors of a four-dimensional Lifshitz black hole with z = 0 $z=0$

We study scalar perturbations for a four-dimensional asymptotically Lifshitz black hole in conformal gravity with dynamical exponent \(z=0\), and spherical topology for the transverse section, and we find analytically and numerically the quasinormal modes for scalar fields for some special cases. Then, we study the stability of these black holes under scalar field perturbations and greybody factors.
