Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are seen as a key mechanism to improve the quality of African Higher Education (New Partnership for Africa’s Development [NEPAD], 2005, pp.8-9) which in turn is seen as a key driver of development (World Bank & UNESCO, 2000, pp. 92-3; NEPAD, 2005, pp.8-9; Bloom, Hartley, & Rosovsky, 2006). In this paper the benefits of PPPs for developing Higher Education will be investigated through a discussion of the recent history of such initiatives in the Nigerian University sector and the issues associated with their implementation in Nigeria.
