Introduction: Narrative theory states that stories allow learners to contextualise education in a way that is valid to them [1,2]. Simulation-based education is an effective teaching modality, correlating with improved clinical performance. Learners benefit most from simulated environments they are engaged with and believe to be authentic [3]. Traditionally this can be limited by the number of participants. We sought to validate a combination of narrative theory and simulation-based education in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) education at international conferences. Methods: We delivered an interactive simulation-based session at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine 2024 (RCEM24) conference. Using a pre-test post-test design, knowledge of paediatric Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) resuscitation principles was assessed at baseline and six weeks. Team management of a child with TSS was simulated on stage. Using live-voting technology, the audience voted for next management steps in five elements of the case. Each voting choice was debriefed live, and linked to recent and key evidence-based literature. Human factors within the resuscitation were also demonstrated and debriefed live. An online questionnaire was emailed to attendees six weeks after the conference, repeating the same five questions and assessing practice-changing behaviour. Statistical analysis was performed using Two sample Z test of proportions. Ethical approval was granted by Queen Mary University of London. Results: Between 87 and 103 live-vote responses per interactive question were captured during the session. Forty-four attendees (43%) completed the post-conference survey at six weeks. The proportion of correct live scores pre-education was low for all questions, indicating low baseline knowledge. The proportion of correct scores at six weeks was compared. Post-education scores were high, and improvement was statistically significant for all questions (p<0.05) (Table 1). One attendee had managed paediatric TSS in the six weeks post-RCEM24, and said the evidence taught changed their practice. Of the remaining 43 respondents, 38 (88%) said the session would result in a change in their practice in the future. Discussion: Our results demonstrate that by combining narrative, authentic simulation and learner interaction, educators can engage learners in paediatric resuscitation education, improve knowledge, and generate practice-changing behaviour. This methodology can be applied to a large group setting, increasing accessibility to this evidence-based learning experience. This study will be reproduced at the Irish PEM 2025 conference to validate the results, extending post-education assessment to 12 weeks to explore sustained change. Combining storytelling via simulation with audience participation makes simulation accessible and incredibly powerful. Ethics Statement: As the submitting author, I can confirm that all relevant ethical standards of research and dissemination have been met. Additionally, I can confirm that the necessary ethical approval has been obtained, where applicable.

Digital technology has created two different ways people get their news in China. This study looks at how audiences interact with traditional television news compared to social media platforms like WeChat, Weibo, and Douyin. We found that social media lets people do much more – they can comment, share, and even create their own news content. Television, on the other hand, only lets people watch. While TV news has fixed schedules and one-way communication that limit what audiences can do, it still has strengths in being trusted and reaching many people at once. New approaches that mix both TV and social media features are emerging because neither system alone gives people everything they need. These changes show how news consumption is changing and who has power in today’s media world.

Abstract Musica Elettronica Viva (MEV) enjoys cult status in the history of avant-garde music in the second half of the twentieth century. Founded in Rome at the turn of 1966 and 1967 on the initiative of the American composer and pianist Frederic Rzewski, MEV, together with the Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza (GINC), introduced free improvisation to the European continent. However, many aspects of the group’s early years remain obscure, particularly with regard to their first performances and their transition to improvisation. Drawing on previously unpublished archives, in particular those of Frederic Rzewski preserved in Brussels, this article clarifies these aspects by establishing a precise chronology from 1966 to 1968. Far from following the aesthetics of GINC, MEV seems to have been more influenced by the Living Theatre, whose Artaudian and political approach encouraged its shift towards musical spontaneity and audience participation. This study thus offers a new perspective on the origins of MEV and its place within the Italo-American avant-garde of the period.

ABSTRACT This paper presents the design and construction of an interactive sculpture titled ‘Coming Together,’ which metaphorically addresses contemporary human interactions through the narrative of Adam and Eve. The sculpture investigates how fluctuating social conditions influence unintentional connections among individuals. As audiences engage with the piece, their movements are subtly altered based on the color spectrum and texture of their clothing, prompting reflection on how personal attributes shaped by upbringing and environment impact social dynamics. This sculpture emphasizes the critical role of audience participation in contemporary art, using the Adam and Eve story as a universal metaphor to illustrate the contrasts between past and present interactions. By physically simulating social scenarios, the artwork challenges viewers to consider their influence on the sculpture, fostering a deeper understanding of interaction. Ultimately, the study aims to demonstrate how interactive sculptures can effectively convey abstract themes and enhance audience comprehension of relationships.

Introduction. The article is devoted to the study of audience involvement in a theatrical production in the context of two directions of performing arts: immersive theatre and stand-up comedy. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that with the development of modern technologies, changes occur in many areas of public life, including cultural life. The purpose of the work is to identify common features and differences in approaches to increasing audience involvement, as well as to consider the possibilities of their mutual influence and integration. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set: to analyze what technologies of audience involvement exist in theater practices and stand-up comedy, to identify and evaluate successful practices of introducing immersive technologies into cultural projects.Materials and Methods. The study analyzes examples of practical implementation of mechanisms for increasing immersion in theatrical productions and stand-up performances, features of interaction with the audience, use of multimedia technologies and organization of space. The study uses both general theoretical and practice-oriented methods, as well as semiotic and structural analysis.Results. The results of the study showed that the synthesis of theatre and stand-up comedy mechanisms significantly increases the level of immersion of the project. It was also established that intergenre productions combining features of both directions are already becoming part of the Russian stage space. The study confirms that immersion is becoming a key trend in contemporary art, responding to audience requests for interactivity and involvement.Discussion and Conclusion. The conducted case analysis can be used by the heads or art managers of cultural projects that are at the initial stage of implementing immersive technologies in their products. The topic of using immersive technologies in the cultural sphere requires systematic study. The development of immersive theater requires not only technological investments, but also a rethinking of traditional approaches to dramaturgy, acting and audience participation. Future research may examine the issue of expanded use of modern technologies in the cultural sphere, in particular, the use of artificial intelligence.

Abstract Leaving work and entering retirement is an important life transition, impacting e.g. time use, identity, and social contacts. In recent years, retirement as an institution has become increasingly fragmented across different pathways and transitions, and several countries have introduced flexible retirement ages instead of a fixed retirement age. In addition to the traditional retirement transition (i.e., a full exit from the labour market to receive a public pension at the normative/statutory age) or early retirement (often through disability pension systems), phased or gradual retirement, extended careers, “bridge jobs” and returning to work after retirement are increasingly common. Both the timing of and pathways to retirement are contingent on social policies and contexts that promote different types of continuation or withdrawal from paid work in older ages. The retirement transition may have consequences for health, health behaviours, and well-being, which can be both positive and negative depending on pre-retirement factors (such as health, lifestyle, and working conditions), the nature of the retirement transition (such as age at retirement, if the retirement was voluntary or not, and if it was due to health reasons or not), and post-retirement factors (such as social contacts, economic situation, and lifestyle). There are also socioeconomic differences in the impact of retirement on health. This workshop will summarise current knowledge about post-retirement health and well-being, as well as look toward future directions. The workshop will present results from both original empirical studies and systematic reviews, as well as a new conceptual framework to study retirement transitions in comparative analyses. It will consist of four contributions from four European universities. Prof. Sari Stenholm from University of Turku, Finland, will present cutting-edge results from the Finnish Retirement and Aging study regarding changes in health behaviours in the retirement transition. Dr. Giacomo Pietro Vigezzi from University of Pavia, Italy, will present an overview of reviews on post-retirement health, health behaviours and wellbeing, highlighting evidence, evidence gaps and methodological issues within the area, and provide recommendations for future research and policy. Dr. Brian Beach from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, will present a typology of different retirement transitions based on the timing and pathways of the retirement transition that can be adapted to different policy contexts and serve as a comparative framework for future studies in the area. Finally, Prof. Hugo Westerlund from Stockholm University, Sweden, will synthesise the main themes of the presentations and set the stage for the audience discussion. A third of the workshop time will be set aside for audience interaction and participation. Key messages • Health and wellbeing after retirement depends on work-related characteristics, the type of retirement transition, and socioeconomic factors pre- and post-retirement. • Studying the complex interplay of pre-, peri- and post-retirement factors, health and wellbeing requires both methodological and theoretical development.

Abstract. Promoted by techniques such as deep learning, automated 3D reconstruction of cultural artefacts and historical sites has made significant progress in many application fields in recent years, such as the creative industry. In museums, digital technologies are driving the transition from static display forms to more immersive and dynamic exhibition experiences. However, most artefacts in museum environments are still displayed in traditional showcases, with only a limited number of institutions adopting digital twins and presenting 3D models through their online platforms. This situation is particularly evident in the case of artefacts such as statues, with an emphasis on passive viewing and limited interaction with the audience. The development of permanent exhibitions that move beyond static visual presentation thus remains a largely unexplored frontier in interactive technology in museums. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a diffusion-based framework for Single-View 3D Reconstruction, using sculptural heritage objects as a case study. This deep learning approach takes a colour photograph as input and aims to generate a photorealistic 3D reconstruction with detail suitable for digital exhibitions in museums. Our preliminary results show that this approach has the potential to create a novel integration of art and technology, contributing to new possibilities for audience participation and immersive experiences within cultural heritage exhibitions.

Abstract Climate change action and sustainability are gaining importance in the health policy discourse. This concerns both anticipating and managing the potential impact of climate change on population health and health systems, but also understanding and mitigating the climate footprint of healthcare itself. The health sector alone is responsible for around 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, of which 17% directly related to activities in health care facilities. There are a range of ways in which the sector and health care facilities specifically can implement change, while also generating co-benefits for population health, including redesigning procurement practices to consider environmental criteria, transforming the physical spaces in which health care is delivered, improving recycling and waste management practices, promoting green mobility options for patients and staff, and empowering the health workforce to embed decarbonization principles in their daily practice, just to name a few. This session aims to showcase existing initiatives that highlight the types of activities that can be implemented to facilitate the greening of health facilities and reduce the climate impact of health care, bringing together a range of perspectives from actors at different levels. This will include a discussion of the support instruments, including funding and technical support, made available by the European Union, which can be accessed by different actors in the sector to facilitate the greening of health facilities. Two relevant examples, the EU-funded initiatives BeWell and Caring Nature, will be featured to demonstrate how European partners are collaborating to reduce the impact of the healthcare sector on the environment. The session will also zoom in to look at initiatives from different national and regional contexts and the lessons they have learnt: presenting the work of the Competence Centre for Climate and Health based at the Austrian National Public Health Institute, which has been working closely with health care facilities towards reaching climate neutrality, and Austria's participation in a multicountry EU project to leverage EU resources for the greening of Austrian health facilities; and discussing a regional good practice example of the health facility group Mutua Terrassa in Catalonia (Spain), which has collaborated with regional authorities and developed a Green Commitment strategy to reduce the environmental impact of its estates. The session foresees active audience participation in discussion with the panel to reflect on enablers and barriers of sustainable action in health care, exploring the different options that policy makers can make use of to drive action at different levels and the role of international support and cross-country learning in making change happen at a time when health systems face many competing challenges and demands. Key messages • Mobilisation is needed across the entire sector and at all levels: from the top down to the health care facility. • A broad range of options and resources exist that can be pursued by decision-makers at different levels to make health care facilities more sustainable.

This study examines how audience participation on Instagram shapes the dynamics of digital interpretation, particularly through the processes of figuring (affirming meaning) and disfiguring (reinterpretation or critique) in comments on Quranic verse posts. The research is motivated by the shifting paradigm of religious authority in the social media era, where interpretation is no longer monopolized by authoritative figures but openly negotiated and contested by users. The study focuses on two public accounts: @ismaelalkholilie, representing a sufistic-affective style, and @nadirsyahhosen, reflecting a contextual-critical approach. Using a descriptive qualitative method and digital hermeneutics, data were collected through online observation, caption documentation, and analysis of comments on two posts (January–May 2025). Findings show that audiences are active co-interpreters rather than passive recipients. Comments on Ismael’s account are mainly affective and affirm spiritual narratives, while those on Nadirsyah’s account are more reflective, intellectual, and critical. Digital interpretation thus emerges as dialogical, decentralized, and shaped by audience participation.

Museums around the world are increasingly developing new assistive tools and digital technologies to improve access to their spaces and accommodate the needs of disabled individuals. Despite the growing recognition of issues of accessibility in museums, most initiatives are developed without the active participation of those intended to benefit from these projects, including individuals with disabilities (Park et al. 2015; Wilson et al. 2018). As a result, participatory accessibility remains a largely overlooked area both within museum literature and museum practice. Using the Murney Tower Museum’s participatory audio tour project as a case study, this paper offers insights into participatory accessibility design in museums, and reveals the social, cultural and institutional implicationsof this approach to design. Through a detailed analysis of the museum’s threestep audio tour project, the paper argues that accessibility initiatives which are developed with the active participation of disabled people and other target audiences, may create better results in facilitating greater access to museums and cultural spaces.

Many of the new quantum-resistant digital signature algorithms being evaluated and standardized by NIST rely on the Fiat-Shamir transform for security. This transformation takes a zero-knowledge (or negligible-knowledge) proof of identity and a hash function, and produces an algorithm for a digital signature. Luckily, none of these concepts are very hard to explain! I will give quick introductions to zero-knowledge proofs and hash functions, followed by two examples of digital signature algorithms based on Fiat-Shamir which you could use in an undergraduate classroom. The first one involves a lot of audience participation, and gives opportunities for drawing and decoration if you are so inclined. The second has been fairly well-known since the early days of public-key cryptography, and is likely to at least remind you of systems you have seen before. We wrap up with an overview of how Fiat-Shamir is used in post-quantum cryptography and in blockchains.

Danmu-mediated communication reveals the intricate process of audience participation and preference. Such intricacy of communication includes danmu subtitling as a translation, danmu commentary as a multimodal text as opposed to the original, subtitled video clip, which consists of audiences’ insights into their heads-on experience, and familiarity with the audiovisual subject matter, all as a reception-side paratext (Freeth, 2021: 130–131). Reception-side paratexts provide an invaluable platform for capturing readers’ critical understandings of original texts (ibid.: 118). Among these paratexts, this article argues that danmu functions significantly and cumulatively to transform humour in the digital mediascape. The authors aim to measure participants’ reception of danmu-enabled humour in thematically heterogeneous films, fantastic animation and romcom-themed films. To gauge the impact of danmu-enabled humour on viewers, this paper conducted a survey and interview-based reception study with 30 participants who watched danmu and non-danmu-loaded videos from different film topics. The results suggest that, while danmu videos do not significantly differ from non-danmu videos in terms of evaluations of humour, participants prefer the animation themed without danmu and the romcom themed with danmu. This suggests that the consumption of danmu-loaded videos is film-topic specific and humour-feature diverse. This study points to insightful relations between audience reception and the production of digitally-born multimodal texts, which could provide evidence to improve online participatory and interactive experience, and build customizable and accompanying user experience.

As live streaming video gaming platforms become more and more popular, Quality of Service (QoS) must be improved to increase viewer engagement and satisfaction. Many factors affect the user experience, including interactivity, streamer behavior, video quality, and active community engagement. Real-time QoS optimization is still difficult considering changing network conditions, audience participation, and content quality. This study explores the behavior and expectations of participants in live streaming video games using big data analytics. Driven by network stability, stream quality, and audience interaction parameters, a Deep Neural Network (DNN) can predict viewer satisfaction and turnover rates. BERT-based sentiment analysis is used to extract trends of audience engagement and general sentiment from chat interactions and comments. The proposed framework can extract important insights that can guide modifications to improve QoS. Experimental evaluations show that the proposed DNN using BERT improves the accuracy of satisfaction prediction using datasets from Twitch, Facebook Gaming, and YouTube Gaming. In response to real-time QoS demands, the model can dynamically alter bitrate and resolution to optimize streaming performance. The results show that the proposed model can provide better viewer retention, reduce buffering problems, and increase engagement to help content creators and platform developers.
