Педагогічні умови формування емоційного інтелекту майбутнього магістра музичного мистецтва у процесі інструментальної підготовки

Тhe article is devoted to determining the peculiarities of the process of forming the emotional intelligence in a future master of musical art in the process of instrumental training. In a world emotional intelligence is heralded as a cornerstone of personal and professional success. Historically, EQ assessments have been the realm of human-to-human interaction, relying on nuanced perceptions and experiences to judge one’s ability to manage emotions, both their own and others’. The most important type of soft skills is emotional intelligence since it constitutes a pivotal part of our lives. In this way three pedagogical conditions are considered and substantiated, which are the basis of the strategy of forming emotional intelligence in a future musical art master. The first pedagogical condition is the activation of students; polymotivation to emotional interaction in the process of instrumental training. The second pedagogical condition is the creating an artistic communicative and reflective environment as a means of conscious regulation of the emotional field in the process of instrumental training of future musical art masters. The third pedagogical condition is the introduction of training technologies for teachers and students. Presented the ways of forming emotional intelligence in the professional preparation of future musical art master’s, namely: activation of future master’s motivation for emotional interaction in the process of professional preparation; creation of appropriate artistic educational environment; active creative process of development in the future musical art master’s emotional intelligence through introduction of training technologies, etc.

Masters of Dark Arts—Ibn ʿArabī’s Records on African Sorcery, Qaḍīb al-Bān and the Power Known as Himma

In 1195 AD, a celebrated Sufi scholar, poet and philosopher Muḥyī al-Dīn Ibn ʿArabī quit Muslim Spain for Africa. There, he first became acquainted with ʿuzābīyyah, which he described as the dark arts rooted in the soul’s power over mind and matter. Ibn ʿArabī referred to this power as himma. The Sufi shaykh Qaḍīb al-Bān, as well as the North African sorcerers Ibn ʿArabī encountered, could use this power to maim and kill humans. They were also said to be capable of creating new life forms with himma. The present study examines the specific types of himma they used and determines the supposed loci of this power in the body and soul. It also describes the standard methods used in Akbarian circles and North Africa to make oneself worthy of himma and identifies advantages and disadvantages of using this power to turn dreams into reality.

Career Paths and Curriculum Relevance of Master of Arts in Home Economics Education Graduates: A tracer Study

The study was conducted to trace the graduates of the Master of Arts in Home Economics Education from SY 2010-2023. Thirty-nine out of forty-three graduates participated in the study at workplaces in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Davao de Oro, and abroad. A survey questionnaire patterned from the CHED Graduate Tracer Study with some modifications was used to collect information and sent through Google Forms, messenger, and email. The collected information was tabulated and analyzed, and the information was presented in the form of tables and graphs. Information from the socio-demographic and educational profile was presented as graphs and tables. The Likert scale was used to analyze the curriculum and work-skill-related factors. The study's results revealed that the MAHEED graduates comprised primarily of married women between 31-35 years old. Most remained as MAHEED graduates and did not pursue a PhD program. The primary reason for pursuing the MAHEED program is for promotion. Most of them are NC2, NC3, and TM TESDA holders. Most of them work regularly in the Department of Education as Teacher II. The curriculum-related factors were rated very relevant, with the major courses ranked first in relevance to the employability and promotion of MAHEED graduates. The work-related factors were also rated very relevant, with critical thinking ranked first in relevance to the employability and promotion of MAHEED graduates.

The Artists and BAM: “Come and Draw, Again and Again”

Soviet fine art contains a large number of works with industrial themes, including those devoted to the great construction sites of socialism. The construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) influenced the country’s development not only in economic and social aspects, but also had a direct impact on the cultural background, giving a new impetus to the activity of creative unions and the emergence of works of various types of art. The BAM theme is talentedly reflected in the creative field of Soviet fine arts. The appearance of numerous pictorial, graphic, sculptural, decorative and applied works was facilitated by the travelling format of artists’ work — creative business trips. Artists travelled to BAM construction sites, witnessing and participating in everyday life and holidays. Thanks to their inclusion and immersion in the environment, the masters of fine arts created works of various genres that accurately and vividly reflected the moments of the construction of the railway. Subsequently, the works were presented at various exhibitions. Nowadays, preserved in museum and private collections, they are an invaluable aesthetic and historical contribution to understanding the spirit and character of that era. The study of the activities of the Union of Artists of the USSR (as a whole as a regulator) and its branch represented by the Irkutsk Organisation of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR (as one of the local executors) is essential for understanding the effective mechanism of fulfilling the social order related to the representation of the global events of the 1970s for the Soviet state. The Irkutsk organisation of the RSFSR Union of Artists was territorially connected with the western section of BAM, and the archival documents provide an opportunity to comprehend the peculiarities of the microstructure’s activity in the conditions of the targeted work of the entire Union of Soviet artists on the BAM theme.

Personalities of professional heroes in the musical pedagogy of the South Urals

The article continues a series of studies by the authors devoted to the consideration of the activities of famous musicians-teachers of the South Urals in the heroic paradigm – as outstanding masters who have achieved impressive results in pedagogical work, have received wide public recognition, are perceived by the professional community as a model of service to their cause and an axiological guideline for the younger generation. The purpose of this work is to present the activities of famous musical teachers of the Southern Urals in an integrative context. In this article, the personalities of outstanding teachers of the P.I. Tchaikovsky South Ural State Institute of Arts (hereinafter referred to as the Tchaikovsky Law School) - E.G. Bykov (balalaika), V.V. Kozlov (guitar), A.A. Heineman (French horn, orchestral conducting) are chosen for study. The methodology consists in using an integrated approach and synthesis of research methods in pedagogy, art history, and cognitive linguistics. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that the heroization of the personality of the teachers-musicians of the Tchaikovsky YUrGII is revealed integratively: in the didactic aspect (creation of their own outstanding pedagogical school), culturological (enrichment of cultural achievements of the region through fruitful and highly productive creative work of professional heroes), communicative (establishment of stable artistic communication with the public through creative activity of students), axiological (formation of reference principles and methods of work of a professional teacher, acting as axiological guidelines for the younger generation of musicians). The theoretical significance is expressed in a systematic and consistent study of the pedagogical heritage of outstanding masters of art of the South Urals, which allows us to enrich the history of the development of the Tchaikovsky School as one of the leading creative universities in the region. As a result of the research, the hypothesis is proved that the activities of outstanding musical teachers should be considered as a phenomenon of the spiritual culture of society in the unity of transformative, cognitive, value-oriented, communicative potential, and only integrative perception allows us to identify aspects of the glorification of personality most fully and in relief.

Appreciation, Analysis and Creation in the Teaching-learning of the Plastic Arts

Aim. The Didactics of the Plastic Education is necessarily nourished by the general didactics and the arts, as well as by their particular methodologies, in aspects related to the teaching-learning of the textual analysis, and specifically, the study of the visual code (iconic and visual signs, tropes or rhetorical figures, etc.), which dialogues with theory, semiotics, cultural anthropology, among other sciences. Methods. In academic research, methods such as the analysis of the results of pedagogical activity, ethnographic or experiential and inductive-deductive methods were used. Results. The Didactics of a Plastic Education requires an urgent review that includes, from its most general principles and laws, to the aspects related to the selection and sequencing of content, the role of the student's plastic education in achieving a social model, the distinctions between artistic education, aesthetic education and teaching of the plastic arts in all the integrality and complexity of their discourses, the teaching-learning process, its essence and contradictions, the categorical system of the teaching-learning process, among other fundamental aspects. The present study contributes to this rethinking of the theoretical and methodological postulates of the Didactics of Plastic Education, as it proposes as an objective: to argue the didactic principle of the unity between appreciation, analysis and textual creation in the teaching-learning process of the visual image analysis. Conclusion. This argument constitutes a theoretical contribution to the science, and clarifies, while unifying, criteria and procedures in the pedagogical practice of artists, teachers, instructors and masters of the plastic arts.

Graduate school's impact on careers: Insights and implications from master of arts in education graduates

This study explores the impact of a graduate education strategy in mathematics education, focusing on how graduation rates and student outcomes are influenced and managed. Employing an inductive thematic analysis and descriptive quantitative methods, the research reveals that program graduates experience significant professional growth, enhanced teaching practices, and increased self-confidence. These gains underscore the program’s critical role in advancing graduates' careers. Additionally, graduates actively engage in professional networks and organizations, furthering their career development. Their constructive feedback and engagement in program improvements highlight a commitment to continuous enhancement. Quantitative analysis shows the program's high relevance to graduates’ professional roles, resulting in higher salaries and a positive impact on mathematics education practices. Regardless of enrollment year, the Master of Arts in Mathematics Education program consistently benefits its graduates. These findings offer valuable insights for program administrators seeking to enhance program quality and effectiveness for current and future students. Moreover, the study acknowledges that individual abilities, research focus, and external opportunities may also influence graduate performance. Symbology and Codes in Dan Brown’s Origin

This paper explores the intricate web of symbology and codes found within Dan Brown's gripping novel, Origin. As a renowned master of blending history, art, science and religion, Brown weaves a tale that captivates readers with a labyrinth of symbols and enigmatic ciphers. Through an analysis of key elements in the narrative, this study aims to shed light on the significance of symbolism and cryptographic puzzles as essential devices in the plot's development. Drawing upon Brown's signature writing style, the paper examines the role of religious symbology, ancient texts and iconic art and architecture, intertwining them with scientific theories to craft a compelling narrative. The central focus lies in the protagonist, Robert Langdon, a symbologist, whose expertise in languages and linguistics plays a pivotal role in deciphering messages and solving the mystery at hand. Jean Moréas' Symbolist Manifesto (1886) is a foundational text in the development of literary symbolism. In this manifesto, Moréas emphasized the importance of symbolism in art and literature, advocating for a departure from naturalism and realism. He proposed that artists should focus on conveying emotions and ideas through symbols, rather than direct representation. Applying Moréas' theory of symbolism, the researcher analyzes how Dan Brown employs symbols and codes as key elements in Origin. By analyzing the relationship between language and technological innovation, the study aims to unveil how these elements converge to heighten the intrigue and suspense in the novel. It delves into the significance of linguistic techniques and cryptic passages, as tools for building suspense and enriching the reading experience. Langdon reveals meanings and ideas inherent in symbols and codes and demystifies the concepts- "Where do we come from?" and "Where are we going?"

Enhancing Students' Performance in Biology through Blended Learning with Collaborative Tools and Interactive Online Activities

The study focused on the assessment of the technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) of graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) program and tested the effectiveness of a blended learning approach using online collaborative tools, a learning management system, and interactive resources in Biology. The specific objectives of the study included describing the profile of MASE students in terms of computer and internet resources and skills, measuring their confidence levels in the four TPACK constructs, finding significant differences in pretest and posttest scores, and obtaining student feedback on the use of Edmodo as a Learning Management System. The study employed a one-shot pretest-posttest experimental design using a combination of online resources and face-to-face interactions. Based on the results, there was an increase in the median values before and after the intervention, as shown by the difference between the pre-median and post-median. Pre-implementation, the TPACK confidence level of the students was rated fairly confident (FC), but it increased after to completely confident (CC). This suggests that the students' TPACK confidence level improved positively using the BL approach. Likewise, the t-stat value of 10.68 indicates a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores after implementing the blended learning approach. This suggests that the blended learning approach had a positive and noteworthy impact on the student's performance, as seen in the improved test scores. The study's results highlighted the benefits of Edmodo as well as the use of interactive online activities in their performance and TPACK as reported by the students.

Verification and Establishment of Techniques of Ajami Artwork

Ajami, a technique of painted wood paneling, was popular in the Ottoman Empire from the 17th to the late 18th centuries. Ajami art became prominent in Syria after the decline of tile production, and it rose to a sophisticated level of art in both local and global markets. Today, however, Ajami art has become almost forgotten and unknown by the modern generation, due to being an exclusive art that can be seen only in palaces, museums, and historical houses. This study investigates the traditional method and techniques of making Ajami, with a focus on the work of a renowned Syrian Ajami art master artisan named Mr. Abdulraouf. The study aims to identify and document the traditional method of Ajami production and determine the materials and techniques used for making Ajami. The study found that Ajami art consists of natural elements that are utilized in four main stages; foundation, design, painting, and finishing. The artisans have a strong preference for floral and geometric designs, influenced by Islamic religious beliefs. The findings of this study could serve as an educational guide to preserve heritage and make it presentable for the present and future generations.

Fostering Educator Buy-in of Language and Literacy in the Science Classroom

This paper describes a project to build linguistic awareness among science educators at multiple levels: pre-service K–12 teachers, in-service K–12 teachers, and university faculty in both education and STEM fields. Educational linguists from a language-focused non-profit research organization created modules on teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students for a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program for middle school science educators at a large urban U.S. university. The module content, which was integrated into three science education methods courses, was designed around three key principles: linguistic understanding, critical language awareness, and pedagogical modeling. A critical component to the project’s success was fostering “buy-in” from the various groups of educators through multiple means, including piloting materials with in-service science teachers, training university faculty on the language and literacy materials, and revising content based on feedback from the MAT program faculty and students. The findings demonstrate that over time, the educators re-examined their roles as teachers of language and literacy and reassessed their thinking related to science instruction, highlighting the efficacy of incorporating language development content into training and professional development for STEM educators at multiple levels.

In this article, written after visiting the exhibition of works by M.A. Vrubel at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow in the winter of 2021–2022, the author shares some of his impressions of the event. Vrubel appears as an innovator who predicted and anticipated in his work many phenomena in the art of the coming 20th century. The author examines the influence of Vrubel’s creative work on the artists of the Russian avant‐garde and the perception of his works by the masters of new trends in art. The purpose of the study is to analyse various connections between the young Russian artists of the 1900s‐1910s and the art and searches of Vrubel. The novelty of the work lies in the fact that this topic has not been fully studied to date. The significant exposition of Vrubel’s works at the Tretyakov Gallery provided a lot of new material for studying the influence of the artist’s work on the masters of the Russian art of the 20th century. In the article special emphasis is placed on the consideration of the last period of the master’s work associated with his illness. From the point of view of a modern researcher this period is a significant and completely independent phenomenon that completed his work of the 19th century and opened up new opportunities for the art of the 20th century. Research material for this article is presented by the works of Vrubel shown at the exhibition in the Tretyakov Gallery in 2021–2022, the memoirs and testimonies of the artists of the early 20th century, and subsequent works of the art historians of the 20th century.

Fractal contours: Order, chaos, and art

Over the recent decades, a variety of indices, such as the fractal dimension, Hurst exponent, or Betti numbers, have been used to characterize structural or topological properties of art via a singular parameter, which could then help to classify artworks. A single fractal dimension, in particular, has been commonly interpreted as characteristic of the entire image, such as an abstract painting, whether binary, gray-scale, or in color, and whether self-similar or not. There is now ample evidence, however, that fractal exponents obtained using the standard box-counting are strongly dependent on the details of the method adopted, and on fitting straight lines to the entire scaling plots, which are typically nonlinear. Here, we propose a more discriminating approach with the aim of obtaining robust scaling plots and extracting relevant information encoded in them without any fitting routines. To this goal, we carefully average over all possible grid locations at each scale, rendering scaling plots independent of any particular choice of grids and, crucially, of the orientation of images. We then calculate the derivatives of the scaling plots, so that an image is described by a continuous function, its fractal contour, rather than a single scaling exponent valid over a limited range of scales. We test this method on synthetic examples, ordered and random, then on images of algorithmically defined fractals, and finally, examine selected abstract paintings and prints by acknowledged masters of modern art.

Working as a Sensitivity Reader: Just Another Step on the Way to Publication

The use of sensitivity readers has become increasingly prevalent in the publishing industry over the past decade (Brouillette 2023; Jilani 2023; Kingsbury 2024; Sharma 2023; Thomalla 2023; West-Knights 2023). To some, sensitivity readers are controversial figures who seek to censor writers’ voices, while for others they are much-needed defences against the perpetuation of discrimination in literature (Lawrence 2020). Given the relatively novel application of sensitivity reading in publishing processes, there remains a scarcity of research into, and understanding of, the practical implications of this editorial process. The following transcript of a discussion between University of Exeter Master of Arts (Publishing) student, D-M Withers, and sensitivity reader and published author Georgina Kamsika reflects on the specificities of this industry role, providing insight into our understanding of sensitivity reading as a unique editorial layer within the publishing chain.

Adequacy, Utilization of Laboratory Equipment and Performance of Junior High School Science Teachers

This research aimed to determine the relationship between laboratory equipment adequacy and utilization, and the performance levels of Science teachers in Malapatan Municipality. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, utilizing surveys and observations to collect the data from 13 teachers across three districts, Malapatan Districts 1, 2 and 3. The study revealed that most teachers have Master of Arts in Education degrees in Science, a significant portion lacks in-service training, potentially limiting their effectiveness in using laboratory resources and teaching methods. The deficiency in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics equipment hinders Grade 9 Science teachers' ability to conduct hands-on experiments and practical demonstration crucial for teaching these subjects. Classifying skill shows high extent in utilizing the laboratory equipment while Observing, Inferencing, Experimenting, Predicting, Communicating, and General Questions require improvement. In terms of teaching performance, teachers excel in Physics but need improvement in Earth Science, Chemistry, and Biology. The weak positive correlation between equipment adequacy and teacher performance needs to be improved, indicating that additional factors such as teacher skills and resource availability play significant roles. The researcher developed a comprehensive and effective professional training program for science teachers to effectively utilize laboratory equipment and incorporate science process skills into teaching methods.

Домбра в калмыцком фольклоре и лирике ХХ – начала XXI в.: поэтика музыкального инструмента

The relevance and novelty of the article is determined by the fact that the poetics of a musical instrument was not the object and subject of research in Kalmyk folklore and poetry. Among the national musical instruments, the dombra retains its functionality at the present stage. The study of dombra as a thing and as a musical instrument in the translation of folk culture and art is of interest in a historical-functional, comparative-comparative sense when referring to both folklore and poetry, since it demonstrates the tradition, the continuity of the works of poets on this topic. In Kalmyk oral folk art, the dombra as a musical instrument is often found. It is mentioned in epics, fairy tales, legends, riddles, and songs. The material for the article were selected folklore works and representative poems of Kalmyk poets of the 20th – early 21st centuries. The purpose of the article is to consider the poetics of dombra as a thing and a musical instrument in Kalmyk folklore and lyrics to identify the continuity of traditions in the modern period. Results. The Kalmyks, unlike other Turkic-Mongolian peoples, apparently have not preserved folklore works about the appearance of the dombra as such, since it is considered a borrowed instrument. There are no such poems in Kalmyk lyrics. In Kalmyk folklore, the dombra is shown in its musical function; usually it does not have a plot-forming role. Among Kalmyk poets, poems about dombra are usually associated with the Dzhangarchi’s performance of folk epic songs, with folk rituals and holidays, singing and dancing. Depending on the time and space reflected in such texts, dombra is shown against the backdrop of historical and personal events, demonstrating a thematic range. A number of texts are dedicated to famous performing musicians and masters of dombra art. The analysis involved poems created in the Kalmyk and Russian languages, and also compared the original texts and their Russian translations.

Innovation Transformation and Industry-Education Integration: A Study on the Integration Path of Guangxi Zhuang’s Intangible Cultural Heritage and Master of Arts Education in China

This study focuses on the master of arts education in higher education institutions in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, explores the path of integrating Guangxi Zhuang’s intangible cultural heritage with the teaching of master of arts, and puts forward the teaching mode of “thinking guidance-autonomous judgement-program construction.” A theoretical model of innovative transformation of intangible cultural heritage is also summarized. Through the development of this study, it is expected to further enrich the practical teaching mechanism of master of arts education in Chinese universities and form a master of arts teaching model with strong local cultural characteristics. At the same time, the teaching reform based on the integration of Guangxi Zhuang’s intangible cultural heritage and master of arts education also has strong practical significance for promoting the inheritance and innovation of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, promoting the development of cultural and creative industries, and serving the economic and social development of Guangxi.

From upper-level professional engineers to secondary engineering teachers: a study of pre-service second-career teachers in Australia and the United States

ABSTRACT Teachers with professional experience are important for improving students’ learning experiences and understanding of practical industry skills in engineering. This study explores why upper-level professional engineers decided to enter teaching with their Master of Arts in Teaching or Master of Teaching programmes and how pre-service teachers with decades of professional experience in engineering described and made sense of their career decisions to become secondary teachers. Sixteen participants shared their stories and their decisions. Among the motivations they reported, the relationship between industry and classroom knowledge in terms of preparation for university studies and encouragement from professional engineers to pursue engineering education influenced their decision. This study provides recommendations for potential second-career teachers and workforce management plans for school leaders and government agencies.

Works by Andrii Levytskyi for the “Homage à trois” Project (Barcelona, Spain)

Andrii Levytskyi is a well-known Kyivan graphic artist, a recognized master of gravure printing (intaglio). The artist has been participating regularly in the “Homage à trois” (Tribute to Three) project, which takes place in Barcelona (Spain) on the initiative of the Duana de les Arts – AIDA International Association – since 2021. Only masters of graphic art can participate in the project. It should commemorate three literary figures on the occasion of their birthday anniversaries, and the artists should choose at least two of the three proposed personalities. Intaglio 2021, satisfying the conditions of the project, at the same time continues seamlessly the themes and motifs peculiar to Andrii Levytskyi’s heritage in general. Poem about a Henna Tree (Jean Lafontaine) is somewhat unexpected and paradoxical, but naturally connected with the artist’s favourite images of trees. In the Player the themes of confrontation, game, rivalry are developed. They are arisen, in particular, in the intaglio Motus Animi Continuus (2021). Three works of 2022, made in the computer design technique, are distinguished by a bright and at the same time elegant color solution. The artist is inspired by themes of the theater and, widely, carnival culture (Molière’s Mask), Japanese art (IchiyōHiguchi’s Stream). The work for the anniversary of the legendary German romantic Novalis (Ask Baron: Is Religion the Opium of the Peoples) is especially unexpected. In 2023, Andrii Levytskyi has returned to the intaglio technique again and at the same time abandoned color. The works dedicated to Federico García Lorca (At Five O’clock in the Afternoon) and Wisława Szymborska, winner of the Nobel Prize (Cat in an Empty Apartment), are the artist’s reflections on the theme of death, while the work Dream. My Ántonia (based on the novel by Willa Cather) softens their tragical essence. The Ukrainian artist’s works dedicated to Molière, Novalis and Willa Cather have been nominated and awarded by the organizers of “Homage à trois”. Taking part in the international artistic projects, and even more so winning in them, Ukrainian artists contribute actively to the creation of a positive image of the state. After all, the culture of Ukraine consists not only of the historical heritage, but also of the works of modern masters.
