Latent Profiles of Nurses' Insomnia, Fatigue, Recovery, Psychological Distress and Burnout During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Examining the Role of Organisational Support.

To identify latent profiles of insomnia, fatigue, recovery, psychological distress and burnout among hospital nurses; examine variations in personal and work-related characteristics across profiles; investigate associations between profiles and outcomes such as patient care quality, nursing work satisfaction and workplace satisfaction; and assess the moderating role of organisational support on these relationships. A cross-sectional descriptive study. This study analysed survey data from 2488 hospital nurses using latent profile analysis, multinomial logistic regression and hierarchical multiple linear regression. Four well-being profiles emerged: low, average, above-average and high well-being. Profiles differed significantly in personal and work-related characteristics. Nurses in the high well-being profile were associated with better patient safety, care quality and satisfaction. Organisational support moderated the negative associations between low well-being profiles and nursing work and workplace satisfaction. Tailored interventions addressing factors associated with low well-being and enhancing organisational support may be beneficial for improving nurse well-being, delivering high-quality care and supporting nurse retention in sustainable healthcare environments. Healthcare organisations should prioritise nurse well-being through targeted interventions, adequate staffing, recovery opportunities and stress management resources to support a resilient and sustainable workforce. The findings revealed the diversity of well-being patterns among hospital nurses and provided insights for identifying subgroups at higher risk of impaired patient safety, reduced care quality and dissatisfaction with nursing work and the workplace. Exploring generative AI effects on Korean civil servants’ performance

This study explores the factors influencing civil servants’ perceptions of generative AI-assisted work performance, focusing on extrinsic and intrinsic motivations and the moderating role of organizational power, as measured by government level and organizational rank. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most influential technologies, driving transformation in both government and society. Generative AI, as a subfield of AI, has gained recognition for its capabilities to automate routine tasks, enhance decision-making, and improve work productivity. However, little is known about who perceives the positive effects of these tools on performance and why. Drawing on the notion that motivations affect work performance and the reinforcement politics model, this study analyzes survey data from 1,608 Korean civil servants collected by the Korean Institute of Public Administration (KIPA) in April 2023, when generative AI was still in its early stages of development. The survey targeted civil servants from central, provincial, and local governments to gauge their perspectives on generative AI-assisted work performance. This study employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), an appropriate method for predictive modeling and identifying key driving factors in complex relationships to investigate the connection between two types of motivation and perceived work performance. The findings reveal that extrinsic and intrinsic motivations positively influence perceived work performance, with intrinsic motivation having a more substantial effect. Also, extrinsic motivation significantly enhances intrinsic motivation, highlighting the dynamic interaction between the two constructs. However, the moderating effects of government level and organizational rank on the relationship between motivations and perceived work performance were not statistically significant. These results underscore the critical role of individual motivation in shaping perceptions of generative AI tools while suggesting that organizational power may play a less significant role in this context than previously anticipated. Theoretically, this study provides empirical evidence supporting the idea that motivations affect work performance by demonstrating the effectiveness of generative AI tools in public administration while challenging the reinforcement politics model. It challenges the foundational assumption of the model that organizational power makes a significant impact on the adoption and effectiveness of generative AI tools.

How establishing a marine protected area network has shaped community and citizen science along California’s coast

Community and citizen science (CCS), the involvement of non-professional scientists in research and monitoring, has emerged as a key approach in tackling marine conservation issues. This has been evidenced especially in various monitoring efforts of marine protected areas (MPAs) with increasing involvement of CCS programs in contributing data used by MPAs in their adaptive management processes. Having recently engaged in its decadal management review process, this study focuses on the implementation of California’s MPA Network through an examination of the diverse impacts to CCS programs. Through an analysis of survey and interview data provided by leaders representing 12 CCS programs in addition to 13 members of the MPA State Leadership Team, we report on the varied impacts to a diverse set of CCS programs and explore how the relationships between MPAs and CCS in California have evolved over the past 10+ years. We found that regardless of State funding eligibility or receipt to participate in MPA monitoring, all 12 CCS program leaders reported overall increases or growth to their programs across all six focal impact type categories (participants, data, programmatic elements, finances/funding, and staff/partners). Additionally, MPA leaders shared perspectives on the evolving role of CCS, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and data alignment. These findings suggest that continued support for the collaborative MPA-CCS relationships could yield further mutual benefits for both the growing use and utility of CCS and its role in MPA implementation and marine conservation more broadly.

Leveraging Business Intelligence Capacity for Company Resiliency in a Park Development Management Corporation in Beijing, China

This study investigates the business intelligence (BI) capacity and organizational resilience of the Park Development Management Corporation through a comprehensive analysis of survey data. The research explores various dimensions of BI capacity, including data management, decision support systems (DSS), knowledge management, technological infrastructure, and legal and ethical compliance. Additionally, it assesses the corporation's resilience in terms of strategic technology adoption, governmental support, and research and development (R&D) capabilities. The findings reveal opportunities to enhance BI capacity, particularly in data analytics utilization, decision support systems, knowledge accessibility, technological infrastructure, and legal and ethical compliance. Recommendations include a strategic plan focusing on BI capacity building, organizational culture development, legal and ethical compliance, technological infrastructure enhancement, employee training and development, and customer experience enhancement. By addressing these areas, the corporation can strengthen its BI capabilities, foster a data-driven culture, ensure legal and ethical compliance, optimize technological infrastructure, empower employees, and enhance customer experiences, thereby improving its overall resilience and competitiveness in the market.

How does leadership AI awareness shape employee voice behavior? based on the framework of hindrance and challenge stressors.

BackgroundThe rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is driving transformative changes across various sectors, reshaping organizational management models and altering work dynamics for employees.ObjectiveThis study employs the framework of hindrance and challenge stressors to examine the impact of leadership AI awareness on employees' voice behavior (VB).MethodsWe analyzed survey data from 487 employees in knowledge-intensive industries across China.ResultsLeadership AI awareness, under hindering stressors, positively correlates with employees' job insecurity (JI), which inversely affects their VB; JI acts as a mediator. Conversely, under challenging stressors, leadership AI awareness enhances employees' intrinsic motivation, which positively correlates with VB. Intrinsic motivation also mediates this relationship. Additionally, AI self-efficacy moderates the influence of leadership AI awareness on employees' VB.ConclusionsThis study elucidates a dual-path mechanism through which leadership AI awareness affects employees' VB and delineates the boundary conditions for this influence. The findings offer managerial insights for stimulating employees' VB amidst AI integration in the workplace.

Understanding antimicrobial use by equine owners in Wales: Using cross-sectional survey and semi-structured interviews.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasingly serious threat to human and animal health. Antimicrobial use (AMU) in horses is gathering research interest, although there remain significant evidence gaps. Currently, there is scant qualitative research into equine owners' use of antimicrobials, specifically antibiotics, hindering the design of evidence-based stewardship interventions and policies. To understand Welsh equine owners' views and behaviours relating to antimicrobial usage. Cross sectional survey and qualitative data collection and analysis. An online survey (n = 319) and semi-structured interviews (n = 21) were conducted with Welsh equine owners. The survey examined participant knowledge of and relationship with their horse(s), sourcing of antibiotics, owner-vet interactions on antibiotic prescribing, antibiotic usage, and their understanding of AMR. Semi-structured in-depth interviews further explored horse owner perspectives, experiences, and decision-making relating to these areas, to add nuance and depth to quantitative data. Survey data were descriptively analysed, and interview data were coded and qualitatively analysed using a thematic approach. Welsh equine owners regarded their horses as members of the family (84.8%). Most sourced antibiotics from their vet (68.9%) with a minority (5.1%) never having done so or having used antibiotics left over (16.6%) and 13.6% would consider changing veterinary practice if they did not receive antibiotics when they requested them. Interview data suggest that antibiotic use was shaped by (i) key relationships of care (human-animal and owner-vet); (ii) competing priorities (treatment need versus ease of administration); and (iii) imperfect comprehension (education, information, AMU/AMR knowledge). Potential self-selection bias of respondents due to the voluntary nature of participation. This study highlights variations in the horse-owner relationship, conflicting priorities involved in horse ownership, and the quality of vet-client relationships which may influence treatment decision-making. It raises some concerns about the sourcing of antibiotics and variable understanding of AMR, with important implications for antimicrobial stewardship and educational priorities.

The impact of alliance diversity on firm innovation performance: The mediating role of degree of internationalization and organizational agility, and the moderating effect of social embeddedness

This study examines how alliance diversity enhances firm innovation performance through the mediating roles of internationalization and organizational agility, with social embeddedness as a key moderator. Drawing on dynamic capabilities and social capital theories, we investigate these relationships in China's high-tech sector using a sample of 570 firms. The research employs structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze survey data collected through stratified random sampling. Findings reveal that both functional and technological alliance diversity significantly improve innovation performance, while internationalization and organizational agility serve as complementary mediators. Notably, social embeddedness amplifies these effects, particularly for alliance diversity. The study contributes to innovation literature by demonstrating how diverse alliances, when coupled with international exposure and adaptive capabilities, create synergistic innovation benefits, with social capital serving as a critical enabler. Practical implications suggest that managers should cultivate diverse alliance portfolios while strengthening organizational agility and social networks to maximize innovation outcomes. The research advances theoretical understanding by integrating alliance, internationalization, and agility perspectives into a unified framework, offering insights for firms navigating complex innovation ecosystems.

Beyond the Click: A Deep Dive into Factors Influencing Digital Paylater

This study explores key factors influencing Generation Z's intention to use digital pay-later services, focusing on perceived risk, ease of use, and financial technology (fintech) literacy. Specifically, it examines how perceptions of risk and ease of use affect usage intentions through the mediating role of fintech literacy. A quantitative research design and partial least squares (PLS) analysis were used to analyze survey data collected from Generation Z university students. The findings indicate that perceived ease of use significantly enhances intention to adopt digital pay-later services, whereas perceived risk demonstrates a more complex, indirect effect moderated by fintech literacy. Fintech literacy partially mediates the impact of both perceived risk and ease of use, highlighting the critical role of financial knowledge in fostering responsible digital pay-later adoption. These insights suggest that providers of digital pay-later services should focus on educational initiatives and design user-friendly products to meet the financial literacy needs of Generation Z consumers.

0526 Longitudinal Bi-Directional Relationship Between Insomnia Symptoms and Family Involvement Among Full-Time Workers

Abstract Introduction For full-time workers, family involvement (i.e., level of involvement in family activities) and sleep are important aspects of their nonwork life. While both sleep and family involvement may help buffer the effects of work demands on health, they also may affect each other. Specifically, greater involvement in family activities may disrupt or promote workers’ sleep; meanwhile, having high-quality sleep may help workers have more energy and resources to devote to family activities after a day’s work. In this study, we examined a potential bi-directional relationship between insomnia symptoms and family involvement among full-time workers in a longitudinal study. Methods We analyzed survey data from 199 full-time employees in the U.S. who provided ratings of their experience of four insomnia symptoms over the preceding few weeks (1 = to a very small extent, 5 = to a very large extent) and level of involvement in family activities across three waves with 6 weeks in between. Their average age was 38.2 years (SD = 8.5), 78.9% were white, and 69.3% were male. These employees reported working an average of 41.8 hours per week and came from a variety of industries, including manufacturing (16.1%), finance (15.1%), medical/social services (14.1%), service (13.1%), education (12.1%), and information technology (10.1%). Results We performed cross-lagged panel analyses to examine the lagged associations between insomnia symptom severity (averaged across the four items) and subsequent family involvement (while controlling for previous level of family involvement, hours worked per week, industry, age, sex, and race) and between family involvement and subsequent insomnia symptom severity (while controlling for previous insomnia symptom severity, hours worked per week, industry, age, sex, and race). Greater insomnia symptom severity was negatively associated with lower subsequent family involvement (b= -0.11, SE=.03, p <.01), but family involvement was not significantly associated with subsequent insomnia symptoms (b= -0.02, SE=.05, p =.739). Conclusion Our findings suggest that insomnia symptoms may decrease workers’ involvement in family activities, perhaps by decreasing workers’ energy and resources to cope with work demands. 0805 The Clinical and Humanistic Burden of Narcolepsy: Matched Analysis of US National Health and Wellness Survey Data

Abstract Introduction Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that causes debilitating daytime sleepiness among other symptoms. This study compared clinical and humanistic outcomes between those with and without narcolepsy to characterize the extent of disease burden. Methods This study was a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of 2021/2023 US National Health and Wellness Survey data. The narcolepsy cohort included those who reported a physician diagnosis of narcolepsy. Propensity-score matching (1:3) adjusted for demographic/health characteristics between those with and without narcolepsy (controls). Chi-square tests and t-tests compared comorbidities, symptoms of depression and anxiety, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) between groups. Results Before matching, respondents with narcolepsy (n=335; female=56%; mean age, 45.5 years; White=68%) and without narcolepsy (n=141,072; female=55%; mean age, 47.8 years; White=72%) were included. Additionally, the narcolepsy cohort had higher mean [SD] body mass index (30.1 [8.4] vs 27.6 [7.1], p<.001) and were more likely to have obesity (44% vs 28%, p<.001) and be current smokers (25% vs 17%, p<.001) than those without narcolepsy. After matching, the narcolepsy cohort reported more frequent physician-diagnosed psychiatric comorbidities vs controls, including depression (58% vs 32%, p<.001), anxiety (54% vs 33%, p<.001), and ADHD (20% vs 6%, p<.001). The narcolepsy cohort had higher reporting of moderate-to-severe depression symptoms via Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (52% vs 33%, p<.001) and moderate-to-severe anxiety via Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire-7 (41% vs 26%, p<.001). On the Brief Resilience Scale, more respondents with narcolepsy reported low resiliency scale score vs controls (43% vs 28%, p<.001). Compared with controls, the narcolepsy cohort scored lower on HRQoL measures, including mean [SD] mental health composite (32.8 [11.3] vs 40.6 [12.6], p<.001) and physical health composite (35.7 [11.4] vs 42.9 [11.6], p<.001) scores of the RAND 36-Item Health Survey. The narcolepsy cohort reported greater impairment of daily activities vs controls (51% vs 34%, p<.001). Conclusion Narcolepsy is associated with broad clinical and humanistic burden. Those with narcolepsy had more frequent psychiatric comorbidities, more severe depression and anxiety symptoms, less self-reported resiliency, and lower HRQoL. Future strategies should focus on comprehensive management that prioritizes mental health, while investigating new treatments that may improve HRQoL for narcolepsy patients. Lux: A Generative, Multioutput, Latent-variable Model for Astronomical Data with Noisy Labels

Abstract The large volume of spectroscopic data available now and from near-future surveys will enable high-dimensional measurements of stellar parameters and properties. Current methods for determining stellar labels from spectra use physics-driven models, which are computationally expensive and have limitations in their accuracy due to simplifications. While machine learning methods provide efficient paths toward emulating physics-based pipelines, they often do not properly account for uncertainties and have complex model structure, both of which can lead to biases and inaccurate label inference. Here we present Lux: a data-driven framework for modeling stellar spectra and labels that addresses prior limitations. Lux is a generative, multioutput, latent-variable model framework built on JAX for computational efficiency and flexibility. As a generative model, Lux properly accounts for uncertainties and missing data in the input stellar labels and spectral data and can either be used in probabilistic or discriminative settings. Here, we present several examples of how Lux can successfully emulate methods for precise stellar label determinations for stars ranging in stellar type and signal-to-noise ratio from the APOGEE survey. We also show how a simple Lux model is successful at performing label transfer between the APOGEE and GALAH surveys. Lux is a powerful new framework for the analysis of large-scale spectroscopic survey data. Its ability to handle uncertainties while maintaining high precision makes it particularly valuable for stellar survey label inference and cross-survey analysis, and the flexible model structure allows for easy extension to other data types.

0471 Sex-Specific Associations Between Organophosphate Insecticide Metabolites and Sleep Behaviors Among U.S. Adults

Abstract Introduction Dialkyl phosphate metabolites (DAPs) are common metabolites of organophosphate pesticides (OPPs) that have been associated with suboptimal sleep behaviors in the United States (U.S). However, sex-specific differences in these associations have not been extensively studied. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the influence of exposure to common OPP metabolites on sleep behaviors among U.S. adults. Methods A cross-sectional analysis of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data (2015-2020) was conducted (N=4,149 adults, 18-80 years). Demographics and sleep behaviors were collected via interviews/questionnaires and concentrations of DAP metabolites were extracted from urine samples using solid phase extraction-high coupled with isotope dilution-ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography(UHPLC)-tandem mass spectrometry. Weighted multivariable logistic regression models determined the age-, socioeconomic status (SES) and body mass index (BMI)-adjusted associations between each DAP and sleep behavior. A sex-stratified analysis adjusting for the same covariates examined differences in these associations. All DAP metabolites were log-transformed to account for their skewed distribution. Results The mean age of the sample was 47.3 years (52.8% female, 16.5% Hispanic/Latino, 62.4% non-Hispanic White, 11.3% non-Hispanic Black, 5.9% non-Hispanic Asian, and 3.8% other or multiple races). Over half the sample (54.1%) had overweight or obesity, and 13.6% were socio-economically disadvantaged (below poverty line). About 23.7% did not meet the recommended 7-hour sleep duration, 24.8% reported trouble sleeping, 45.5 % snored ≥3 times a week, 24.5% reported excessive daytime sleepiness ≥15 times a month, and 11.5% experienced snorting or breath cessation ≥3 times a week. After adjusting for age, SES, and BMI, diethyldithiophosphate (DEDTP) was associated with a 69% increase in the likelihood of having trouble sleeping [aOR=1.69; 95% CI: 1.01,2.86; p< 0.05]. Sex-based stratification showed an increased likelihood of males having trouble sleeping when exposed to diethyl phosphate (DEP) [aOR=1.11; 95% CI: 1.01,1.23; p< 0.05] and DEDTP [aOR=2.56; 95% CI: 1.14,5.77; p< 0.05]. Conclusion Findings suggest that exposure to certain DAP metabolites is associated with insomnia-related sleep behaviors, especially among adult males. Further research is needed to understand the causal relationships between DAP metabolites and sleep behaviors. Support (if any)

Individual and community level determinants of neonatal mortality in sub saharan Africa: findings from recent demographic and health survey data

BackgroundA major cause of deaths among children under five is neonatal mortality, a worldwide problem. However, the problem in sub-Saharan Africa is not well documented. Understanding the prevalence of neonatal death and its related causes is crucial for creating efforts and policies that could help address the problem. This study set out to determine the prevalence of neonatal death and its determinants in sub-Saharan Africa.MethodsUsing secondary data analysis of demographic and health surveys conducted between 2014 and 2024 in sub-Saharan Africa. Total weighted samples of 133,448 live births in all during the period in 31 Sub- Saharan Africa. The determinants of neonatal mortality were identified using a multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression model. A multilevel binary logistic regression was fitted to identify the significant determinants of neonatal mortality. The Intra-class Correlation Coefficient, Median Odds Ratio, Proportional Change in Variance was used for assessing the clustering effect, and deviance for model comparison. Variables with a p-value < 0.2 in the Bivariable analysis were considered in the multivariable analysis. In the multivariable multilevel binary logistic regression analysis, Adjusted Odds Ratio with 95% CI was reported to declare statistically significant determinants of neonatal mortality.ResultsThe neonatal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa was 32 per 1000 live births (95% CI: 30, 34). maternal occupation (AOR = 1.26, 95% CI: 1.16, 1.37), home delivery (AOR = 1.29; 95% CI: 1.21, 1.39), caesarean section (AOR = 1.58; 95%CI: 1.36, 1.83), twin births(AOR = 2.48, 95% CI: 2.05, 2.54), birth order of 2–4 (AOR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.18, 1.44), birth order of ≥ 5 (AOR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.31, 1.59) and smaller size than average (AOR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.36, 1.63)were significantly associated with higher odds of neonatal mortality.ConclusionAccording to this study, in sub-Saharan Africa neonatal mortality rate was high. The following factors should be taken into account while developing policies and measures to reduce newborn mortality in sub-Saharan Africa: the mother’s education, wealth index, occupation, place of delivery, mode of delivery, twin birth, neonatal sex, birth order, and size at birth.

0806 The Economic Burden of Narcolepsy: Matched Analysis of US National Health and Wellness Survey Data

This study compared economic outcomes between those with and without narcolepsy to characterize personal and societal financial burden associated with this rare condition. Methods This study was a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of 2021/2023 US National Health and Wellness Survey data. The narcolepsy cohort had a self-reported physician diagnosis of narcolepsy. Propensity-score matching (1:3) adjusted for demographic/health characteristics between those with and without narcolepsy (controls). Chi-square tests and t-tests compared economic outcomes between groups (eg, healthcare resource use, work impairment, medical and indirect costs). Results Before matching, respondents with narcolepsy (n=335; female=56%; mean age, 45.5y; White=68%) and without narcolepsy (n=141,072; female=55%; mean age, 47.8y; White=72%) were included. The narcolepsy cohort had lower socioeconomic status vs those without: less likely to receive college degree (45% vs 52%, p&amp;lt;.05), less likely to be employed full-time (36% vs 46%, p&amp;lt;.001), more likely to receive disability (10% vs 3%, p&amp;lt;.001), more likely to have &amp;lt;$25,000 annual household income (22% vs 12%, p&amp;lt;.001), and more likely to report food insecurity (39% vs 18%, p&amp;lt;.001). After matching, the narcolepsy cohort reported significantly more outpatient visits vs controls (11.6 vs 6.2 average visits during prior 6 months, p&amp;lt;.001), including more visits to neurologists, psychiatrists, and pulmonologists (all p&amp;lt;.001). The narcolepsy cohort reported significantly higher hospitalizations (≥1 visits; 27% vs 16%, p&amp;lt;.001) and emergency department visits (≥1 visits; 31% vs 22%, p&amp;lt;.01) during prior 6 months vs controls. Those with narcolepsy had an additional $14,492 per-person-per-year in medical expenses (average annual medical costs: $37,815 vs $23,323, p&amp;lt;.001). Of those employed, the narcolepsy cohort reported significantly higher levels of work-related impairment vs controls, including absenteeism (21% vs 12%, p&amp;lt;.001) and presenteeism (44% vs 29%, p&amp;lt;.001). The narcolepsy cohort had an additional $12,853 per-person-per-year in lost wages to employers (average annual indirect costs: $30,075 vs $17,222, p&amp;lt;.001). Conclusion Narcolepsy is associated with reduced socioeconomic outcomes. Those with narcolepsy had greater annual medical and indirect costs than controls. A dual-focus validation of visual body image assessment tools and their link to eating disorders in Chinese young males

The current work aimed to identify the applicability of Male Body Scale (MBS) and Male Fit Body Scale (MFBS) among young Chinese men, exploring the characteristics of body dissatisfaction in this demographic as well as its impact on eating disorders (EDs). The paper questionnaire survey and comprehensive data analysis of 977 participants showed that MBS and MFBS had good reliability and validity. Additionally, 69.8% of young men in China were dissatisfied with fat and 82.8% were dissatisfied with muscle. Body dissatisfaction in the fat dimension could significantly predict the level of EDs, while body dissatisfaction in the muscle dimension could significantly predict the drive level for muscularity. Furthermore, Chinese young men who pursued thin ideals had significantly higher ED scores than those who pursued larger/adipose ideals and were satisfied with their bodies in healthy weight groups. The social norm of "thinness as beauty" may be exacerbating the physical and psychological stress on young men, which is likely to lead to unhealthy eating behaviors and the development of EDs.

Background and purpose of the article: The main aim of the article is to present financial literacy (FL) and consumer over-indebtedness (OI) according to the primary survey in Poland. The auxiliary aim is to analyse the importance of financial literacy in reducing consumer over-indebtedness from a generational perspective. Over-indebtedness is a significant problem in personal finance because it leads to a situation in which household members cannot settle their financial obligations on time, negatively affecting their economic stability and prospects for long-term financial security (D’Alessio, Iezzi, 2013). It is becoming increasingly common in the country and around the world. It has a negative impact on consumers and the economy. Methods: The author conducted primary research using a survey questionnaire. The survey was conducted in Poland in 2022 on 1051 consumers. The analysis of survey data was conducted using the PLS-SEM method. Results and added value: The research results indicate that financial literacy as an independent factor alone does not play a significant role in reducing consumer over-indebtedness, but that analyses in combination with other variables shows that analysis is more effective when financial literacy is not isolated. The most sensitive group in the financial literacy and over-indebtedness study is Generation Z (GenZ), which has the lowest level of financial literacy while at the same time has the lowest financial reserves and savings, thus constituting the most exposed group to the risk of over-indebtedness. The added value could be the author’s proposition of the Financial Literacy Index (WF1), which is compared to the worldwide Financial Literacy Big Five Index (BIG 5), introduced by Lusardi (Stanford University) and Michell (Wharton University) (Lusardi, Michell, 2014).

Understanding Gender Dynamics on the Intentions of Small-Scale Traders to Trade in Edible Insects in Kenya

Grounded in their status as a delicacy in East Africa, the trade of edible insects is increasingly acknowledged as a viable solution to food security and sustainable livelihoods. However, gender differences in trading intentions remain underexplored, particularly in informal and emerging markets. Existing research emphasizes economic and structural barriers but often overlooks the psychological and social determinants. This study addresses this gap by examining gender-specific factors influencing the intention to engage in edible insect trade, integrating demographic, socio-economic, and psychological perspectives. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), multiple regression, and an ordered probit model, we analyzed survey data from 550 traders across key food markets in Kenya, the analysis distinguished how gender moderates the effects of participation intentions. Results revealed that psychological determinants exerted a more significant influence than socio-economic variables on trading intentions. For females, perceived behavioral control (&amp;beta; = 0.775, p &amp;lt; 0.001) and descriptive norms (&amp;beta; = 0.536, p &amp;lt; 0.001) were the strongest predictors, underscoring the importance of self-efficacy and social influence. Conversely, for male traders, attitude (&amp;beta; = 0.331, p &amp;lt; 0.001) and descriptive norms (&amp;beta; = 0.580, p &amp;lt; 0.001) emerged as dominant factors, suggesting a more individualistic decision-making process. These findings highlight the necessity to enhance women&amp;rsquo;s self-efficacy through training, financing, and market access while leveraging attitudinal and social reinforcement strategies to encourage male participation. The study contributes to the behavioral economics literature on emerging markets and offers practical insights for policymakers, development agencies, and entrepreneurs seeking to promote sustainable insect-based trade.

VIOLÊNCIA DOMÉSTICA E A EFICÁCIA DA APLICABILIDADE DA LEI MARIA DA PENHA

This paper examines domestic violence against women in Brazil, highlighting the Maria da Penha Law, enacted in 2006, as an important legal instrument for protecting women's rights. The methodology used includes a literature review of academic studies, analysis of recent survey data, and institutional reports addressing violence against women and the effectiveness of existing legislation. Information was collected on various forms of violence, such as physical, psychological, moral, sexual, and patrimonial, as well as data on femicides, demonstrating the prevalence of these crimes in homes and perpetrated by intimate partners. Despite legal advancements, including the recent change that makes femicide an autonomous crime, the paper discusses challenges in implementing the Maria da Penha Law, such as a lack of resources and the need for greater social awareness. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of promoting cultural changes and collective mobilization to ensure the safety and dignity of women, aiming for a more just and equal society.

Mediating Effect of Energy Management on SME Development amid the Power Crisis in Sri Lanka: Lessons and Public Policy Insights

This study investigates the multifaceted impact of power crises on the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sri Lanka, focusing on the period from March 2022 to February 2023 and examines how power shortages and load shedding affect SME productivity, employment, competitiveness, sustainability, and growth, by exploring the role of energy management in mitigating these adverse effects. Using quantitative methods, the study analyzes survey data of 143 SMEs selected through convenience sampling in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. The findings highlight the significant negative impact of power crises, revealing reduced productivity, diminished employment opportunities, decreased competitiveness, and obstacles to business sustainability and growth. Notably, the study demonstrates the positive effect of energy-efficient practices in mitigating the impact caused by power crises. The study provides further evidence that the negative influence of power-related issues is consistent across different SME sizes and industries. These insights have important policy implications, suggesting the need for collaboration between the government and the private sector to address SME challenges. The study underlines the importance of investing in power infrastructure, promoting economic diversification, and encouraging sustainable business practices. Furthermore, long-term planning, financial literacy initiatives, and targeted support to ensure the resilience and development of SMEs in the face of power crises are suggestive. Dual identities at work: how security role and functional role shape cybersecurity behaviours

ABSTRACT Irrespective of their primary functional roles in the organisation, individuals are expected to perform specific information security roles. However, there is often a divide between the organisation's expectations of the two roles. The divide becomes more pronounced when the individual's self-concept is tied to their primary functional role rather than the information security role. Drawing from the role identity theory and information security literature, we examine the construction of information security role identity (ISRI) and how its impacts on in-role and extra-role security behaviours differ from those of functional role identity. Specifically, we examine the effect of security self-efficacy, personal values, other’s expectations, and organisational support on ISRI and, in turn, in-role and extra-role security behaviours. We analyzed survey data of 537 workers using structural equation modelling. The results reveal that ISRI is shaped by personal values and other’s expectations but not security self-efficacy and organisational support. In addition, information security role identity influences both in-role and extra-role security behaviours, while functional role only influences extra-role security behaviours. Our findings contribute to research and practice by showing how information security role identity is determined and its effects on mandatory and volitional security behaviours, highlighting its importance in security management.
