  • Apr 29, 2026
  • Annales Universitatis Mariae Curie-SkĹ‚odowska, sectio J – Paedagogia-Psychologia
  • Olena Krawczenko

The article proves that the effectiveness of preparing future heads of educational institutions for professional activity depends on the development of their skills to solve problems arising during the modeling of the strategic development of an educational institution, as well as the mastery of the specifics of strategic management of an educational organization. The purpose of the article is to define the pedagogical conditions for forming strategic management competence in future educational leaders within master’s degree programs. It is established that the strategic management competence of future heads of educational institutions is an integrative quality of the future professional’s personality, formed in the educational process. It includes a system of knowledge, skills, abilities, interests, needs, motives, values, experience, social norms, and rules of conduct necessary for the strategic management of an educational institution. This is manifested in the ability to initiate strategic changes, perform strategic analysis, develop development strategies, strategic plans, and strategic programs for the educational institution and implement them. Criteria and indicators for the formation of strategic management competence in higher education students are identified: cognitive, motivational-value, and activity-behavioral. The pedagogical conditions for forming strategic management competence in future educational leaders during master’s training are substantiated, including: creating an effective learning environment in the process of mastering strategic management knowledge and skills; using the latest teaching technologies; and orienting students toward conducting scientific research in the field of strategic management.

Contractual Pathways to Sustained Public-Private Partnership Collaboration and Success
  • Apr 29, 2026
  • Carolyn J Heinrich + 4 more

Abstract This chapter introduces theories and concepts, such as New Public Management (NPM) and New Public Governance (NPG), that help to frame novel thinking about how public-private partnership (PPP) contractual arrangements can be structured to create public value. Insights from economic theories of contracting, game theory, behavioral psychology, and legal theory are integrated to inform readers’ understanding of how formal and informal aspects of the contractual relationships can be configured or cultivated to support the effective functioning and durability of PPPs. The concept of a “formal-relational contract” is introduced, along with guiding principles for developing the formal and informal structures that can scaffold and sustain the complex contractual relationships embodied in PPPs. Pivotal court cases are discussed to illuminate the legal viability of foundational norms, contract terms, and expectations in PPPs, as well as the drawbacks of overly strict, formal agreements in long-term, dynamic projects. The selection of the case studies used in the analysis is also described in this chapter.

  • Kael Michael Mlinek + 3 more

This pilot study describes the design and field evaluation of web-based pre-deployment medical screening and health monitoring by the Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) branch of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). A review of US&R medical officers' (MOFR) and task force physicians' workflow identified web-based solutions. A Microsoft Forms tool (Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington, USA) was utilized for pre-deployment medical screening. A web-based dashboard was developed for reporting task force daily Injury and Illness Logs, submission tracking, and syndromic surveillance. The pre-deployment medical screening tool was completed by 100% of Incident Support Team (IST) members and took less than 4 minutes to complete. A post-deployment survey revealed that the new process was more efficient for the IST members and for the MOFRs in comparison to an in-person screen. Task force daily compliance with web-based Injury and Illness Log reporting was 84%. Successful syndromic surveillance was demonstrated and assisted in maintaining operational readiness. All tools were noted to be intuitive to use and were more efficient compared to prior workflows despite no advanced training in their use. Web-based medical screening, reporting, and surveillance tools can be successfully implemented with high reporting adherence and improved workflow efficiency without prior training.

Universal Basic Income and Value Realization: Metaphysical Insights for Implementation in the United States
  • Apr 27, 2026
  • William Lee Miller

This study examines the metaphysical foundations of economics, focusing on transforming value from subjective origins to objectiverealizations through interconnected networks of human activity. Whiletraditional theories, including subjective marginal utility-basedperspectives, highlight individual and transient valuations, they oftenoverlook the intrinsic informational and motivational nature of value asa driver of systemic growth. This study addresses this gap, presenting atheoretical model in which subjective valuations evolve into objective, persistent value through collaborative economic networks. Algorithmicsimulations demonstrate the feasibility of Universal Basic Income as atransformative mechanism for aligning government finances, strengthening civic engagement, and eliminating poverty. The proposedarbitrage financed fund leverages market dynamics to achieve economicstability without relying on taxation. Scenario-based simulationsillustrate the viability of UBI implementation in the U.S., revealing itspotential to achieve sustainable growth and transform society. Byintegrating metaphysical insights with algorithmic modeling, this studyoffers a novel framework for understanding value creation and itsimplications for economic policy. It highlights the expansive role ofvaluing networks in fostering wealth and civic participation, proposingactionable pathways for reimagining economic institutions. Thefindings underscore UBI’s ability to catalyze eudaimonic societaloutcomes as a foundation for higher sustainable rates of poverty-eradicating economic growth.

Hypothesis-testing research in international business: progress, pitfalls, and a way forward
  • Apr 26, 2026
  • Journal of International Business Studies
  • Jelena Cerar + 2 more

Abstract Building on Meyer, van Witteloostuijn, and Beugelsdijk’s (2017) editorial on best practices for conducting and reporting hypothesis-testing research in IB, we examine the extent to which their guidelines—and related recommendations by Hahn and Ang (2017)—have been adopted in leading IB journals. We analyze all null-hypothesis significance testing-based articles published in the Journal of International Business Studies and the Journal of World Business between 2012 and 2024, using fine-grained inferential trend analyses of methodological and reporting standards alongside state-of-the-art tests for p-hacking and publication bias. Our results indicate meaningful progress in several areas, including greater methodological rigor and transparency. However, adoption remains uneven and has plateaued for several practices. Persistent shortcomings include limited reporting of standard errors, confidence intervals, and effect sizes, incomplete disclosure of robustness analyses and outlier treatment, and the continued predominance of confirmed hypotheses. Moreover, we find no evidence that p-hacking or publication bias have declined over time. Drawing on these results, we outline actionable recommendations for advancing methodological and reporting standards in IB by (1) enhancing transparent reporting, (2) providing convincing evidence, and (3) reporting and probing null and negative results. Overall, our study offers a roadmap for strengthening research credibility in IB.

Tooth avulsion knowledge and practices among dental professionals in Saudi Arabia: Evidence from a systematic review
  • Apr 25, 2026
  • Saudi Endodontic Journal
  • Mishal Saeed Almutairi + 6 more

Abstract Introduction: Tooth avulsion is a severe traumatic dental injury in which prognosis depends on prompt and appropriate emergency management. Dental professionals play a critical role in its management; however, variability in knowledge and preparedness has been reported. This systematic review aims to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of tooth avulsion management among dental professionals in Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: Comprehensive searches were performed across PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and EBSCO databases up to September 2025. Cross-sectional studies assessing knowledge, attitudes, or practices of dental professionals in Saudi Arabia regarding tooth avulsion management were eligible for inclusion. Two reviewers independently screened studies, extracted data, and assessed quality using the AXIS tool. Results: The initial search retrieved 57 articles. After removal of duplicates and screening, seven studies conducted between 2015 and 2025 were included, representing 2150 dental professionals from Riyadh, Jazan, Qassim, Al-Kharj, and Jeddah. All studies were cross-sectional and questionnaire-based. Overall, dental professionals demonstrated moderate to inadequate knowledge of avulsion management. Deficiencies were most evident in identifying appropriate storage media, recognizing the critical time for replantation, determining correct splinting duration, and awareness of long-term follow-up protocols. Specialists and dentists with postgraduate training scored significantly higher than undergraduates and general practitioners. Female dentists, those employed in public institutions, and those with prior exposure to workshops or training consistently achieved better knowledge scores. Four studies were rated high quality, one moderate–high, and two moderate on the AXIS appraisal. Conclusion: This review highlights persistent knowledge gaps among Saudi dental professionals in managing tooth avulsion, despite the recognized importance of prompt and correct intervention. Educational exposure, clinical experience, and professional environment strongly influenced knowledge levels. Findings underscore the need for curricular reforms, structured continuing professional development, and adoption of national evidence-based guidelines to enhance clinical preparedness and improve patient outcomes in dental trauma care.

Identifying and Using Nonlinear and Interactive Control Variables
  • Apr 24, 2026
  • Journal of Management
  • Andreas Salmen + 2 more

Nonlinear and interactive effects (NIEs) are central to management theory. Consequently, although researchers commonly include linear control variables, the omission of nonlinear and interactive control variables (NICs) can lead to incorrect conclusions because the omission can distort statistical tests and effect-size estimates. We reviewed 548 quantitative articles published between 2021 and 2023 in Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, and Strategic Management Journal. We discovered that about 73% tested for NIEs, but only 3% included NICs. Also, by reanalyzing a published study, we demonstrate that the exclusion of theoretically relevant NICs can reverse substantive conclusions, highlighting the threat such omissions pose to theory advancement. To address this methodological challenge, we introduce a five-step guide for systematically identifying, evaluating, and integrating NICs into research involving NIEs. The guide offers a structured, theory-driven approach that uses associations among model variables and their linear controls to determine which NICs are critical for unbiased estimation of NIEs. We also explain how to avoid over-control, maintain statistical efficiency, and transparently manage omitted NICs. Applying the five-step approach strengthens the validity of causal inference in studies of nonlinear and interactive effects and enhances the robustness of empirical results. In addition to improving estimation accuracy, the systematic and theory-based inclusion of NICs advances theory development by clarifying boundary conditions, distinguishing competing explanations, and enabling the cumulative integration of empirical results.

Parents' knowledge and practices towards childhood epistaxis in Al-Baha City, Saudi Arabia
  • Apr 24, 2026
  • The Egyptian Journal of Otolaryngology
  • Mujtaba A Ali + 8 more

Abstract Background Epistaxis, known as a "nosebleed," refers to a sudden bleeding episode that originates from the nose mainly originates from Kiesselbach's plexus. Epistaxis is prevalent among school-age children. Nasal bleeding can be caused by various factors, which can be classified into systemic or local factors. Treatment requires first aid management and seeking medical advice. Thus, the purpose of this study is to assess the parents' knowledge and practices toward childhood epistaxis in Al-Baha City, Saudi Arabia. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 434 parents residing in Al-Baha City, Saudi Arabia. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire that evaluated participants' demographic information, personal or familial experience with epistaxis, and their knowledge of its definition, causes, complications, and emergency management. Descriptive statistics summarized the demographic data and knowledge levels, while associations between sociodemographic factors and knowledge/practice were analyzed using chi-square tests. Results Four hundred and thirty-four participants were enrolled, predominantly male (60.1%) and primarily aged 45–60 years (37.6%). Overall, 63.1% of the participants had good knowledge. About 54.4% reported having a child who experienced epistaxis, with 64.4% of them having recurrent episodes. 96.1% correctly identified epistaxis as nasal bleeding, but only 45.4% recognized it as an emergency. Common causes of epistaxis reported by the participants were nasal injury (49.7%), high blood pressure (48.4%), and nose picking (43.5%). Complications reported were severe drops in blood pressure (44%) and anemia (43.7%). Regarding practices, only 53.5% had good practices toward epistaxis. Only 45.4% knew to apply pressure on both nostrils, while 42.2% mistakenly believed pressing the upper part of the nose is effective. Regarding body position, only 33.4% chose the correct position of sitting with the head tilted forward. Conclusion Although most of the participants (63.1%) had a good understanding of the condition, practical application was inadequate, particularly in recognizing it as an emergency and implementing effective first-aid measures. Notably, fathers demonstrated greater awareness of epistaxis and its management than mothers. Higher educational attainment, medium to high socioeconomic status, and personal experience with a child suffering from epistaxis were associated with improved knowledge levels.

Developing leadership and managerial skills in educational institutions: towards effective education management
  • Apr 24, 2026
  • Frontiers in Education
  • Mohammed Alkhazaleh + 6 more

This study aimed to examine the level of leadership and managerial skill development among department managers in the UAE Ministry of Education and to explore how these skills contribute to predicting the effectiveness of educational management within a context of ongoing digital and institutional transformation. The study was grounded in an integrative framework combining transformational leadership, strategic management, and digital leadership, and adopted a descriptive survey approach. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire administered to a stratified random sample of 300 department managers. The results indicated that the overall level of leadership and managerial skill development was moderate across the three study domains. No statistically significant differences were found based on gender or academic qualification. The findings also revealed a strong positive correlation between leadership and managerial skills. Regression analysis further showed that these skills significantly predict the effectiveness of educational management, explaining 51% of the variance. These findings suggest that existing professional frameworks provide an acceptable foundation for leadership development; however, they still require strengthening in areas such as data-driven decision-making, change management, and leadership responsive to digital transformation. The study offers a field-based contribution within the UAE context and highlights the importance of integrating leadership and managerial skills to support effective educational reform. Nevertheless, the results should be interpreted considering the study's reliance on self-reported data and the use of a single-item overall measure to assess the effectiveness of educational management.
