Hábito inoperante como resistencia anticapitalista en La trabajadora de Elvira Navarro

RESUMEN El artículo ofrece una nueva lectura de La trabajadora (2014) de Elvira Navarro, novela considerada pionera en problematizar las consecuencias sociales de la crisis económica que afectó a España a partir de 2008. Hasta ahora, la obra se había interpretado principalmente como una representación de la impotencia y la falta de articulación política colectiva de los individuos frente a la precariedad económica y la explotación laboral. El objetivo del presente estudio es complementar esta perspectiva, revelando la posibilidad de vislumbrar el germen de un proyecto político afirmativo, que impregna el argumento, centrado en la dimensión cotidiana de la existencia. Planteo que los hábitos inoperantes —la categoría derivada de la filosofía política de Giorgio Agamben— representados en la novela, aparentemente triviales e insignificantes, constituyen actos de microrresistencia frente al imperativo alienante de la productividad, permitiendo a las protagonistas recuperar un sentido de identidad, conectarse de forma más consciente con el entorno y establecer relaciones con los otros, desarrollando una actitud más participativa. Un ejemplo particular de la ocupación habitual inoperante que examino es la actividad artística y literaria de las protagonistas. Exploro también cómo la novela pone de relieve las tensiones entre la inoperosidad como forma de resistencia y su absorción por el sistema capitalista.

Welcome to Peaceful Spain: Football, Cinema, and Soft Propaganda Across the Iron Curtain

The 1950s was a period of economic and political transformations within the Franco regime, which sought to gain international acceptance by positioning itself among the anti-communist countries in the Cold War. In this context, Spanish media culture aimed to demilitarize and normalize the dictatorship through soft propaganda and entertainment, and sport thus abandoned its fascist rhetoric and became a commodified practice, most notably in the case of football. The films Los ases buscan la paz (Ruíz-Castillo 1955) and El fenómeno (Elorrieta 1956) reflect this approach: they combine political intrigues involving footballers from Eastern Europe crossing the Iron Curtain to find a safe haven in Spain with sporting spectacle and popular genres such as comedy and romance. Through a combination of historical contextualization, close analysis, genre studies, and archival research of censorship board records, this article argues that despite their anti-communist stance, these films were designed to be commercial successes rather than straightforward political propaganda. In this way, it offers a new perspective on an important phenomenon of 1950s Spain: the culture of nacionalfutbolismo.

Gender and Immigration in Elvira Navarro’s La ciudad feliz

The representation of the Chinese immigrant in Spanish culture has mainly hewed to hackneyed stereotypes of machine-like and constant productivity, as well as homogeneity. In Alejandro González Iñárritu’s film Biutiful (2010), the Chinese are reduced to childminders and exploitative bosses, while in Almudena Grandes’s novel Los besos en el pan (2015), a group of Chinese hairdressers are presented as identikit and docile, deprived of any individuality. Elvira Navarro’s novel La ciudad feliz Navarro (2009) fictionalizes the coming-of-age of a young Chinese immigrant male child and the travails of his Chinese immigrant family as they settle into Spanish society. The novel reconceives Chinese immigrant integration into Spanish society as a complex phenomenon, forged at the interface of converging linguistic, emotional, gender, and mnemonic factors in both the country of origin and the host country. In so doing, it underscores the complexity of Chinese assimilation to Spain, which has been reduced to ghettoization, while also reconceiving Chinese immigrants as sentient, historical beings and unique individuals who enact idiosyncratic gender performances. Drawing on a wide range of affect, gender, migration, and linguistic theories, I analyze the representation of Chinese immigrant masculinity and femininity within the novel, which encompasses the categories of the tiger mother, the traumatized male immigrant, the father-son relationship, the ageing male immigrant, and the second-generation male immigrant. In so doing, I highlight the heterogeneity of the representation of the Chinese immigrant, thus expanding the current understanding of it.

Una redefinición de las nociones de género y autoría en la etapa franquista: Carmen Conde, lectora de Teresa de Jesús

RESUMEN En este artículo se estudian los ensayos que Carmen Conde (Cartagena, Murcia, 1907—Madrid, 1996) dedica a la figura de Teresa de Jesús en fechas próximas a la celebración del IV Centenario de la Reforma Teresiana (1962). Frente a la imagen de la santa como la heroína de la contrarreforma y el símbolo de la Hispanidad a la que recurre el Régimen de Franco en el contexto de la conmemoración, en estos textos se destacará la genialidad de la escritora abulense y se tomará su ejemplo para redefinir las nociones de género y autoría que, históricamente, han determinado la exclusión de las mujeres del ámbito creativo. Asimismo, al señalar a Teresa de Jesús como pionera de una tradición literaria escrita por mujeres, Conde reconocerá a sus contemporáneas y a sí misma como herederas de su legado intelectual.
