Exploring an Experiential Bible Study Model in the Baptist Context
  • May 1, 2010
  • Review & Expositor
  • Timothy W Brock

The article proposes an approach to teaching the Bible that reflects the conviction, substantiated in the pioneering work of Findley Edge and others, of the need for an experiential approach to Christian education combined with the principles and concepts outlined in David Kolb's experiential theory of learning and development. The Experiential Bible Study model involves four successive movements: personal experience, biblical exegesis, critical reflection and hands-on application.

Spiritual Formation in Seminary Education
  • Feb 1, 2004
  • Review & Expositor
  • William Clemmons

WILLIAM CLEMMONS, in “Spiritual Formation in Theological Education,” reviews and critiques two articles published in Review & Expositor on spiritual formation in Baptist seminaries during the past twenty-five years. He summarizes articles written by Professors E. Glenn Hinson and Molly T. Marshall. Both articles reflect the changing climate for the inclusion of spiritual formation in the seminary's curriculum. The article positions the comments of these two professors within the attempts of the Association of Theological Schools to deal with the issue since 1972. It concludes with observations by Eugene Peterson, Ben Campbell Johnson and Henry Nouwen.
