Analisis Konflik Politik Pasca Pembentukan Daerah Otonomi Baru
  • Oct 30, 2023
  • Jurnal Sosiologi Andalas
  • Lukman Rais + 4 more

This research aims at analyzing auses and impacts of political conflicts, as well as changes in the governance structure and conditions following the establishment of new autonomous regions. The study employs a mixed methods approach using an exploratory sequential design. The research is conducted in Sorong City, Southwest West Papua Province, utilizing cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques involve questionnaires, observations, interviews, document analysis, and triangulation. Data analysis follows an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach, involving descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative analysis. The research findings indicate that the causes of political conflict are attributed to changes in regional governance and power redistribution stemming from polarization based on social and cultural differences, as well as differences in political views and ideologies leading to conflicts among elite political parties competing for power. The impact of these conflicts has resulted in the instability of governance and hindered government decision-making, prompting government efforts to address these issues through dialogue and communication, with civil society playing a role as pressure groups and peace agents. Furthermore, there have been no structural changes in governance because the new autonomy policy primarily aims at political objectives to mitigate conflicts, with economic and administrative goals not yet being the primary focus. Additionally, the condition of governance is in the process of improvement as the new government is engaged in restructuring and infrastructure development, thus making the governance condition currently unstable.

Bermain-main dengan Aturan Keluar Batas Negara: Praktik dan Perlawanan Warga Perbatasan terhadap Upaya Pendisplinan di Desa Aji Kuning
  • Oct 30, 2023
  • Jurnal Sosiologi Andalas
  • Ade Prasetya Cahyadi

The people of Aji Kuning have a high dependence on the Malaysian state, especially regarding employment and the fulfillment of basic needs. In the midst of these conditions, the Government actually made efforts to discipline citizens who wanted to enter and exit the country's borders. Elaborating biopolitical theory from Michael Foucault and resistance theory from James Scott, this article analyzes efforts to discipline the body (biopolitics) of residents in the border areas and the responses that arise to these conditions. This research applies qualitative ethnographic research with the unit of analysis of residents in the Aji Kuning Village. The results showed that the body discipline (biopolitics) efforts were carried out using two practices at once. First, discipline through internalization of understanding of the subject to further increase nationalism (the love of the homeland). Second, the discipline carried out by institutions and civil apparatus is under state control, and is accompanied by several regulations. The response that appears to the disciplinary efforts is that citizens fight by playing with the rules outside the country's borders. The form of resistance is divided into two, namely (1) hidden resistance (hidden transcript) is carried out by passing through rats (illegal), circumventing the applicable rules, and having two citizenship statuses. (2) Open resistance (public transcript) shall be carried out by swearing annoyance and protest against the rules outside the country's borders which are considered too strict such as the difficulty of activating dead passports and the number of corrupt officers.

Cultural Identity in the Shackles of Modernization: The Case of Mentawai Indigenous Peoples
  • Oct 30, 2023
  • Jurnal Sosiologi Andalas
  • Ade Irwandi + 1 more

This paper examines the shackles of cultural identity in the new flow of the times. Mentawai people as a community group have a local identity as a characteristic of an ethnic group. However, the attraction between local culture and the pace of modernization is getting stronger, where the influence of development hegemony and policies conflict with the cultural identity of the Mentawai people. So, it raises the chaos that is still ongoing until now. Through literature study and critical anthropology view, it shows that human has the potential to create creativity and self-adjustment. However, Mentawai people are limited and suppressed by social factors and conditions, and exploited by the 'authorities'. This means that the reality of being Mentawai people is not created by nature but by humans, namely humans who have the power to 'manipulate conditions' and patent meanings that suit their minds that are full of conflict, illusion, and distortion. Mentawai people are in a 'false consciousness' that modernization helps them see the world better and have consciously stuttered (cultural backwardness) from that objective condition. Culture is deliberately clashed with the pace of modernization in various elements of life. However, Mentawai people are not rigid and make adjustments from the politically charged situation that makes them marginalized, exploited, and subordinated. Cultural tactics (cultural meaning) to follow the pace of modernization are used. Modernization and globalization are considered 'interaction spaces' in which there is a contestation arena of various elements of human life.

  • Oct 30, 2023
  • Jurnal Sosiologi Andalas
  • Afrizal Tjoetra + 3 more

Acehnese Civil Society Organizations have formed policy products, laws, and derivative products, such as the formation of Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Government of Aceh. The government started this law after signing an agreement between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement. However, the public participation has decreased in forming several Qanuns. The study aims to discover why public participation in policy formation in Aceh has decreased the supporting and inhibiting factors. The research was conducted using qualitative methods. Data was collected through literature study and interviews. The research results show the ebb and flow of civil society participation in the formation of public policy: (1) changes in behavior and government institutions, but followed by community apathy due to the lack of feedback on input in the discussion of laws and regulations; (2) increasing the capacity of public institutions or organizations, but followed by a decrease in the number of NGOs that focus on public policy advocacy; (3) ease of public access to information, but no impact on open government management and community welfare; and (4) social changes that support participation of civil society in the formation of laws and regulations. Meanwhile, the results also show the supporting factors, such as the availability of resources and guarantees for fulfilling public rights. The inhibiting factors for ongoing public participation in policy formation consist of the availability of resources, socio-cultural factors, and the lack of feedback or follow-up on public input

The era of digital natives has offered many conveniences, including social media and e-commerce. This use contributes to personal branding, resulting in the creation of self-identity. This study aims to describe the social reality of Gen-Z in performing consumptive behavior for personal identity in the Digital Natives Era with the AGIL concept. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. Data collection techniques used are interviews and observations. There were five informants in Medan. The results showed that Gen-Z's consumptive behavior in Online Shopping in the Digital Natives Era was influenced by the demands of forming personal branding through fashion, which was becoming a trend on social media. Some informants normalize their consumptive behavior to follow directions and develop personal branding. According to the theory of Parsons (AGIL), this phenomenon results from social change related to consumption behavior. This study concludes that the need to form personal branding has manipulated students' awareness of wasteful behavior.
