Menander in the Critical View of Quintilian and Gellius
 • Jun 6, 2025
 • Humanities and Social Sciences
 • Consoli Elvira

This work arises from the question whether it is possible for a Latinist to be truly such without Knowing the influence of the ancient Greek civilization on Latin literature, and particularly on the theatrical genre, that has inspired the theater of all time. The examination of Menander in the critical view of the authors Quintilian and Gellius shows that it would be impossible to be a true Latinist without knowing the Greek ancestry of Latin Comedies, as for the Plocium of Caecilius Statius and the Plókion of Menander. The parallel between the fragments of the comedy Plocium by Caecilius and Plókion by Menander confirms that only the comparative deepening of the Greek/Latin theatrical production can provide the key both for scientific research on theatre, both for the transmission of the human values represented in it to the new generation of scholars. With this work Consoli also intends to recompose the separation of studies between text and theatrical performance, believing that even a fragment can constitute a theatrical scene.

The Reception and Dissemination of Henry Thoreau in China (1926–1949)
 • May 24, 2025
 • Humanities and Social Sciences
 • Liu Luechang

While it is commonly believed in Chinese academic discourse that Henry Thoreau's reception in China began with Xu Chi’s 1949 translation of Walden, this study challenges that view by tracing Thoreau’s earliest appearances in Chinese literary culture back to the 1920s. Beginning with Zheng Zhenduo’s 1926 essay “On American Literature,” Chinese intellectuals such as Zeng Xubai, Zhang Yuerui, Xu Chi, Yu Dafu, and Lin Yutang cited, commented on, or translated Thoreau’s works, albeit often in fragmented or introductory ways. By examining early Chinese publications, writers’ reflections, and initial translations, this article reconstructs the formative phase of Thoreau’s reception in China from 1926 to 1949. Despite the limited depth of these early engagements—owing to political instability and cultural constraints—they laid essential groundwork for the later influence of Thoreau. The study argues that Thoreau’s image during this period remained partial and blurred, yet these initial encounters reveal the mechanisms of early Sino-American literary exchange and the conditions necessary for cross-cultural literary transmission. Through this case study, the article contributes to a broader understanding of the historical dynamics shaping the global circulation of American literature.

This article traces the evolution of a real-world evidence (RWE) platform for cannabis research, from its pilot phase as the "Real-World Data on the Therapeutic Response to Cannabis Products in Medical and Veterinary Practice" project in Brazil to its proposed enhancement through a strategic China-Brazil partnership. The initial pilot demonstrated the feasibility of collecting valuable data on therapeutic outcomes, product characteristics, and patient experiences. Building on this foundation, the proposed collaboration leverages China's technological expertise and Brazil's research capacity, specifically Chinese expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and digital health technology infrastructure, combined with Brazilian capacity in conducting clinical studies, access to diverse patient populations, and knowledge in biodiversity, to scale the platform, incorporate advanced analytics, and harmonize regulatory frameworks, navigating the distinct regulatory landscapes of both countries, including current restrictions in China on cannabinoid use, while acknowledging its role as a major producer of industrial hemp and its growing investment in biotechnological research. This integrated approach aims to accelerate the development of evidence-based cannabis therapies and policies, fostering innovation and responsible growth within the industry, while also addressing planetary health concerns. This approach aims to align scientific advancement with ethical and sustainability considerations, reflecting a planetary health vision.

 • Md Alamm + 3 more

Climate change represents one of the most pressing challenges to global sustainability, disproportionately impacting vulnerable communities and exacerbating socio-economic inequalities. This paper investigates the transformative potential of integrating Financial Technology (FinTech) with Islamic finance principles to address climate resilience. By harnessing Islamic social finance instruments such as Zakat, Waqf, and Sadaqah, alongside microfinance models, the study proposes a comprehensive framework for advancing sustainable development and climate adaptation. The convergence of FinTech and Islamic finance offers innovative pathways to mobilize resources, enhance financial inclusion, and promote environmentally conscious investments. This research highlights the critical role of technology-driven platforms in scaling Islamic social finance initiatives, enabling efficient resource allocation, and empowering communities to mitigate and adapt to climate risks. By leveraging FinTech solutions such as blockchain, crowdfunding, and digital payment systems, Islamic finance can achieve greater transparency, accessibility, and scalability in addressing climate-related challenges. Furthermore, the integration of microfinance with Islamic principles provides a unique opportunity to support climate-resilient livelihoods, particularly in underserved regions. The findings underscore that a synergistic approach combining FinTech, Islamic finance, and microfinance can significantly contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to climate action, poverty alleviation, and sustainable communities. This paper concludes that the ethical foundations of Islamic finance, coupled with the disruptive potential of FinTech, present a powerful mechanism for building a climate-resilient future, fostering social equity, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Reclaiming Nudity: Feminism, Commodification, and the Male Gaze in Nxde
 • Apr 29, 2025

With the growing popularity of the Girl Crush concept, an increasing number of K-pop productions incorporate feminist elements. This study examines the Girl Crush style through the lens of postfeminism and commodified feminism, analyzing how it navigates the tension between female empowerment and the male gaze within the highly commercialized K-pop industry. Existing studies rarely provide a detailed account of how feminist symbols in K-pop are constructed and deconstructed. This study fills this gap by conducting a systematic semiotic analysis to uncover the layered meanings of these symbols. Through a semiotic analysis of the visual elements in (G)I-DLE’s Nxde music video, this study examines how symbols of nudity, performance, and objectification engage with feminist discourses. Findings indicate that while Nxde challenges media-driven sexualization by reframing nudity as a symbol of self-expression, it simultaneously conforms to mainstream beauty standards and commercialized aesthetics. This commercialization of feminist ideals paradoxically reinforces the male gaze, highlighting a core tension within postfeminist media culture. The MV oscillates between resisting objectification and reinforcing the very structures it seeks to critique, exemplifying the paradox of postfeminist media representation. This study contributes to the discourse on female representation in East Asian popular culture by emphasizing the performative nature of feminist imagery in K-pop.

Bangladesh-Myanmar Border: A Persistent Threat to Bangladesh’s National Security
 • Apr 29, 2025

 • Ataus Raju + 3 more

Over the past decade, Bangladesh has made significant strides in economic development, with forecasts indicating continued growth in the years ahead. However, sustaining this progress requires ensuring national security, which has become a top priority for the government. Geopolitically, Bangladesh and Myanmar serve as a critical bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia. Despite having less direct border connectivity with Myanmar compared to India, Bangladesh faces a range of both conventional and non-conventional security threats along this frontier. Among the most pressing issues is the ongoing Rohingya crisis, which has evolved into a matter of global concern, as well as the persistent influx of illegal drugs trafficked from Myanmar into Bangladesh. Arms smuggling along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border is another longstanding threat that has remained unresolved over the years. Additionally, Myanmar's limited cooperation with Bangladesh—exacerbated by its prolonged absence of democratic governance—has further strained bilateral relations. Compounding these challenges is the continuing instability in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, where the Arakan Army's armed struggle against the junta government poses additional security risks for Bangladesh. This article will explore these key issues in depth, along with other related security concerns, by analyzing prominent incidents and developments. Finally, the article will present a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s border security and safeguarding national stability and economic prosperity.

 • Apr 29, 2025

 • Benedict Ejeh + 3 more

Family structures have experience various changes globally in recent times. These changes are being influenced by one factor or the other. The study reports the level of experience of family structure changes among male and female in some selected Local Government Area of Benue State, North-Central Nigeria. Data was obtained through questionnaire. Purposive sampling method was used to select six Local Government Areas, while 386 households were chosen as sample size. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentages, chart. graphs were used for the analysis. Family system theory was used to explain the changes in family structure with the assumption that a shift in one part such as nuclear family to a new modern family arrangement of cohabitation, divorce, separation, delayed marriage affects the functioning of entire parts of the family. Result from the findings indicates that 78.% of the respondents have experience changes in the family while 22% have not. The gender differentials in the level of experience of family structure change shows that the level of experience of cohabitation and divorce is slightly higher among women with about 1.1% and 2.5% respectively than men. Also, the level of experience of marital separation and single parenthood is slightly higher among men than women with about 0.1% and 3.2% respectively. Finally, change in household size and delayed marriage is more experience among women than men with about 10.9% and 7.1% respectively. This suggests that the traditional values are experiencing a changes and the cultural chastity are no longer promoted and encouraged in recent times. The chi-square test results show that for all the six indicators (cohabitation, divorce, separation, single parenthood, household size, and delayed marriage), there is no significant difference between males and females in terms of their experience of family structure changes. The p-values for all tests are greater than 0.05, which suggests that gender does not significantly influence family structure change. It is therefore recommended that there is need for policymakers to develop gender-neutral policies and support services. For instance, support systems such as counseling, divorce mediation, housing assistance, and child support programs should be made available equally to all genders without assumptions based on gender roles, there is need by government to strengthen marriage institution to promote stable family pattern, Public awareness campaigns and educational programs should emphasize that family structure changes affect both men and women, Family support programs that address challenges such as single parenthood, delayed marriage, and cohabitation should not prioritize gender but instead focus on the universal needs of individuals undergoing these changes.

The African continent, the sub-Saharan region, has been confronted since its accession to independence with several challenges: getting rid of neocolonialism, creating regional economic communities, implementing the free movement of people, goods and services to establish a common market. It is in this context that CEMAC (Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa) was created on March 16, 1994, made up of the following states: Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo Brazzaville, Chad and Central African Republic. Cameroon, until the recent conflicts in the western and northern regions, was considered a country of peace and as such welcomes many Central African nationals on its territory. These Central African nationals are seeking to improve their well-being. Thus, the city of Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, renowned for offering economic opportunities, was chosen as the destination city by many of these migrants. This analysis of the problem of socio-economic integration of these Central Africans in Douala took place in a socio-historical context, adopting the mixed method which includes both quantitative and qualitative data. Four groups of Central African nationals were the subject of this analysis: legal residents, refugees, asylum seekers and students. Their experience during the period 2003 to 2020 through labor market institutions, housing, health and education was assessed in comparison with that of Cameroonian urban dwellers in the light of CEMAC public integration policies. Cameroon and the urban community of Douala. No evidence of xenophobia on the part of Douala city dwellers was found.

 • Ran Chen

Digital inclusive finance, emerging from the integration of the digital economy and inclusive financial practices, has become a transformative force in addressing the limitations of traditional financial systems, particularly in rural revitalization efforts. By leveraging advanced digital technologies such as the Internet, big data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT), digital inclusive finance can efficiently reach underserved populations and provide tailored financial services to end users. This technological advancement offers a practical solution to the persistent problem of the “last mile” in financial service delivery, especially in supporting college graduates who return to their hometowns to start businesses. The primary financial models facilitating this process include those led by traditional commercial banks, agriculture-focused leading enterprises, and digital financial platforms. These models collectively contribute to creating a more accessible and supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem in rural areas. To maximize the effectiveness of digital inclusive finance in promoting youth entrepreneurship in these regions, it is essential to strengthen institutional frameworks, invest in robust digital financial infrastructure, enhance inclusive credit information systems, and design flexible, diversified digital financial products that meet the needs of young entrepreneurs. In this context, digital inclusive finance serves not only as a financial tool but also as a strategic engine for rural development and youth-led innovation.
