What went wrong with modal responses to Fine?

Abstract The identification of essential properties with necessary ones – a central commitment of the modal account of essentialism (MAE) – has been widely accepted for decades. Fine's (1994) influential critique, however, revealed that necessity fails to capture essence. Subsequent modal responses have attempted to accommodate this challenge, yet none has delivered a fully satisfactory account. This paper examines the shortcomings of these modal strategies and suggests a constructive alternative.

Why Classification May Not Matter in Category-Dependent Aesthetic Judgments

Abstract It is widely acknowledged that aesthetic judgments of works of art are (often, if not always) category-dependent. In this paper, I argue that the categories in which a work is correctly perceived, judged and appreciated are not necessarily the categories to which it actually belongs. The principle that the adequate appreciation of a work must be made in a category to which it belongs should be rejected because it cannot accommodate the strangeness of some innovative works of art. An innovative work might be correctly judged in an old category to which it does not belong, which supports my conclusion that classification may not really matter in category-dependent aesthetic judgments.

Internalisasi Nilai-Nilai Islam Moderat Melalui Pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam di MTs Hidayatul Ummah Balongpanggang Gresik

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui secara luas dan mendalam tentang Internalisasi Nilai-nilai Islam Moderat melalui Pembelajaran Agama Islam di MTs. Hidayatul ummah Blongpanggang Gresik. Dengan 3 fokus penelitian: (1) Bagaimana menemukan transformasi nilai-nilai islam moderat melalui pembelajaran agama islam di Mts. Hidayatul Ummah Balongpanggang Gresik. (2) Bagaimana menemukan transaksi nilai-nilai islam moderat melalui pembelajaran agama islam di Mts. Hidayatul Ummah Balongpanggang Gresik. (3) Bagaimana menemukan transinternalisasi nilai-nilai islam moderat melalui pembelajaran agama islam di MTs. Hidayatul Ummah Balongpanggang Gresik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis kualitatf deskriptif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi (pengamatan), dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis menggunakan kondensasi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa 1) tranformasi nilai-nilai islam moderat melalui pembelajaran agama islam di MTs. Hidayatul ummah balongpanggang gresik adalah menggunakan metode ceramah, kegiatan dan pembiasaan 2) transaksi nilai nilai islam moderat melalui pembelajaran agama islam di MTs. Hidayatul ummah balongpanggang gresik adalah nilai toleransi, nilai seimbang dan nilai kesetaraan. 3) transinternalisasi nilai islam moderat melalui pembelajaran agama islam di MTs. Hidayatul ummah balongpanggang gresik adalah: karakteristik nilai, menyimak dan memberi nilai.

Peran Pendidikan dalam Pembentukan Karakter Kepribadian Sosial Anak di Era Globalisasi

Era globalisasi membawa perubahan cepat dalam teknologi, budaya, dan pola interaksi sosial yang berdampak langsung pada perkembangan karakter anak. Pendidikan memiliki peran strategis dalam membentuk kepribadian sosial anak melalui peran keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat sebagai tiga pusat sosialisasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran pendidikan dalam pembentukan karakter sosial anak di era globalisasi serta mengidentifikasi tantangan dan strategi yang dapat dilakukan oleh lembaga pendidikan. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa studi literatur, observasi, dan analisis dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan, melalui sinergi antara keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat, mampu menanamkan nilai moral, sikap sosial, dan kebiasaan positif pada anak. Namun demikian, tantangan seperti minimnya pemahaman pendidikan karakter, rendahnya keterlibatan orang tua, serta pengaruh negatif media digital menjadi hambatan utama dalam proses pembentukan karakter. Kesimpulannya, pendidikan karakter perlu dilaksanakan secara kolaboratif, berkelanjutan, dan adaptif untuk membentuk anak yang berakhlak, bertanggung jawab, dan mampu menghadapi dinamika globalisasi.

A New Argument for Compatibilism

Abstract I offer a new argument for the compatibility of free will and determinism. The argument rests on three premises, which are plausible and intuitive, or so I argue. Given that acceptance of the premises commits one to a metaphysics that combines a causal powers ontology with a Humean conception of the laws of nature, I propose calling the resulting account of free will “semi-Humean compatibilism”.
