Abstract

This chapter includes a selection of book reviews on the topics of Zionism, Israel, and the Middle East. The first book reviewed provides a critical analysis of contemporary Israeli and Jewish mentalities. Another book is an anthology of previously published articles on the concepts of anti-Zionism and post-Zionism. The other books reviewed examine the British government's handling of World War II and evacuation efforts in Mandatory Palestine in 1948, urban culture in Tel Aviv during the 1920s and 1930s, and the experiences of Jewish youth and displaced persons in Germany after the Holocaust. The last two book reviews cover the history of Jewish national culture in Ottoman Palestine and the history of American-Israeli connections in Mandatory Palestine.
