Abstract

The ternary phase diagram Hg-Mn-Te is discussed with special emphasis on the stability and phase limits of the solid solution range which has the zinc blende type structure. Up to about 80 per cent of the mercury atoms in HgTe can be replaced by manganese atoms with the retention of the zinc blende type structure. The possible concentration of tellurium vacancies in the lattice increases to approximately 13 per cent as the manganese content increases.
