Abstract

The aim of the study is to examine the strength of the association between the place of residence of the Polish population and their main source of income on the basis of the last two censuses carried out in 2002 and 2011. The study used Pearson chi-square test of independence and Cramer's V coefficient to assess the relationship between the changes in residence place and the main source of income, which occurred between the two last censuses period. The analysis showed that the difference between urban and rural areas, depending on the source of income has been over nine years significantly reduced. This regularity was observed by comparisons between the study years the shares of the population, whose wage labor was the main source of income, as well as the shares of the population, the main source of income was a self-employed outside agriculture, self-employment in agriculture, property or non-commercial sources.
