Abstract
Abstract Co-doped CeO2 has been reported as a diluted magnetic oxide with high Curie temperature. In this paper, thin films of Co and Y co-doped CeO2 with the stoichiometry of Ce0.97−yYyCo0.03O2−δ (y=0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, respectively) were prepared on Al2O3 (0 0 0 1) substrates and the Y doping effect on its magnetic property was investigated. It indicates that Y doping introduces an additional amount of oxygen vacancies (VO) characterized by Raman spectra, which leads to enhanced magnetic moments for the as-deposited films. The experimental results are qualitatively consistent with the VO-mediated ferromagnetism proposed recently.
