Abstract

This letter analyzes the degradation induced by cross-phase modulation (XPM) in multisection links using only dispersion precompensation. A previously developed analytical model is used to assess the XPM induced by a pre-compensated nonreturn-to-zero 10-Gb/s signal. It is shown that the XPM degradation is conditioned by the relation between the XPM resonance frequency and the relative minimums and maximums of the power and phase spectral densities of the pre-compensated pump. This observation provides a simple rule valid for uniform links, to relate the precompensation with the XPM degradation.
