Abstract

The arrangement of a γ-shielded X-ray diffractometer in an α-tight cell is presented. A graphite monochromator between sample and detector is used for the suppression of the radioactive background. Diffraction studies are described on irradiated FBR mixed oxide fuels and on residues from the dissolution of irradiated mixed carbides and FBR and LWR mixed oxides. Crystal structures and lattice parameters of the fuels and the metallic and ceramic fission product precipitates are given.
