Abstract

X-ray methods are described for determining tobermorite, quartz and α-dicalcium silicate hydrate in autoclaved calcium silicate materials. The determination of tobermorite is complicated by variable crystallinity, especially if appreciable Aℓ 2O 3 is present, and by interference from semi-crystalline calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H). Methods for overcoming these difficulties are suggested. Methods for preparing reference preparations of tobermorite, α-dicalcium silicate hydrate and C-S-H are described.
