Abstract

X-ray and NMR techniques have been found as new potential tools for nondestructive analysis for internal quality evaluation of durian (Durio zibethinus cv. 'Murray') and mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) fruits. Images obtained by X-ray CT and NMR, used in the medical profession, showed these two methods to be sensitive for detecting the differences between immature, mature and overripe durians as well as for detecting the damage, internal disorder and rotten pulp of both durian and mangosteen fruits. Furthermore, NMR imaging could identify the internal disorder of durians and the translucent pulp of mangosteens.
