Abstract The pesantren library plays a pivotal role as the center of the process of knowing within Islamic educational institutions, akin to the scriptorium in the medieval Catholic tradition. This article proposes a conceptual alternative and framework for reimagining the pesantren library as a dynamic space for the process of knowing, mediated through interactions between the pesantren community (santri, kiai, ustaz, and staff) and its literary collections, including kitab kuning, manuscripts, and archives. Unlike conventional libraries, which are often ephemeral and artificial in structure, the pesantren library integrates religious tradition, Islamic cosmology, and distinct social relations. This article examines two key dimensions: the modes of engagement between the pesantren community and its textual collections, and the internal relational dynamics and the influence of the strangers in transforming knowledge processes. Furthermore, the pesantren library is not merely a repository but an active epistemological site that generates new discourses.

  • Agus Gunawan + 4 more

The complexity of the global economy and demands for accountability drive the need for a comprehensive study of financial management strategy typologies that align with the characteristics of Islamic educational institutions and Islamic economic principles. This research aims to identify, classify, and analyze financial management strategy typologies in Islamic educational institutions from an Islamic economic perspective. Effective financial management presents a major challenge for Islamic educational institutions facing global economic complexity and accountability demands, while most still rely on conventional models that have not fully accommodated Islamic values. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the PRISMA protocol, this research analyzed 6 selected articles from 77,522 articles identified from three major academic databases. The results revealed five typologies of financial management strategies in Islamic educational institutions: (1) pure sharia principles-based that emphasize sharia compliance, maqashid sharia, and justice; (2) audit and accountability-based that focus on legal compliance, transparency, and fraud prevention; (3) governance and professionalism-based that prioritize financial manager competence; (4) management function-based that include planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision; and (5) integration of Islamic values into the education system. Despite showing different characteristics, all typologies aim to achieve financial sustainability while maintaining sharia compliance. This research provides a conceptual framework that can serve as a reference in developing adaptive and contextual financial management models according to the characteristics of Islamic educational institutions.

  • Natalia Tarasova + 2 more

The work is devoted to the substantiation of new research methods used to examine the writer's creative heritage and the concept of Dostoevsky's digital archive. The first part of the article provides examples of the use of online information technologies to create electronic archives of literary and historical texts from different eras, highlight the distinct and common features of the created archival collections, and analyze the principles of material presentation. The material for this part of the research was obtained from the most respectable foreign and Russian Internet portals, which display historical and literary collections and funds associated with various cultural traditions and personas. Each such electronic collection was created on the basis of extensive, sometimes decades-long, scientific work aimed at collecting handwritten and printed sources, restoring handwritten materials, their textual research, studying their creative and non-creative history, determining the methodology of working with them and the concept of their textual and digital reproduction, as well as extensive preparatory work on the selection of technical equipment and digitization of texts. In most cases, such digital archives are not only a place to store sources; they continue to serve research purposes and contain the results and examples of scientific research. In the second part of the article, the tasks of the Dostoevsky digital archive as a collection of texts and a scientific laboratory for the study of the writer's handwritten and printed heritage are formulated. The article substantiates the first stage of research work on the creation of a catalog of Dostoevsky's verbal and non-verbal graphics, based on the combination of modern software methods and textual analysis.

Strengthening Religious Moderation Through an Asset-Based Educational Program for Islamic Boarding School Students
  • Jan 31, 2026
  • ABDIMAS: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat
  • Siti Mustaghfiroh + 2 more

This community-based engagement study aims to strengthen the understanding and practices of religious moderation as a form of social capital supporting sustainable national development. Religious moderation is conceptualized not merely as a normative ideal, but as lived religious attitudes and practices that must be continuously internalized, particularly among Islamic boarding school students (santri) as future religious leaders. Baitul Mustaqim Islamic Boarding School was selected due to its strategic role in shaping students’ religious perspectives and social engagement. The program seeks to enhance both conceptual understanding and practical implementation of religious moderation, enabling santri to promote inclusive, tolerant, and balanced religious values within plural social contexts. An Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach was employed, emphasizing the identification and mobilization of existing assets, capacities, and strengths within the pesantren community. This participatory approach positions santri as active agents of change rather than passive recipients. Educational activities included Building Learning Commitment (BLC), an overview of religious life in Indonesia, the conceptual framework and indicators of religious moderation, and leadership and pioneering roles of santri. Program effectiveness was assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results show a significant improvement in students’ understanding of religious moderation, increasing from 85.5% in the pre-test to 100% in the post-test. Students’ perception of moderation as a balanced religious attitude also increased from 60.0% to 89.3%. These findings demonstrate that an ABCD-based educational program effectively strengthens religious moderation in pesantren settings and offers a participatory model that can be replicated in similar community engagement initiatives.

The era of disruption, characterized by rapid technological development and shifts in socio-cultural patterns, requires Islamic educational institutions to reassess and adjust their management strategies to maintain relevance. This library research adopts a qualitative approach to analyze how Islamic education management can effectively respond to disruptive changes, with a particular focus on Kediri, a region known for its strong pesantren and madrasah traditions. The findings indicate persistent challenges, including limited digital integration, organizational resistance to change, and weak strategic leadership. Nevertheless, emerging initiatives such as digital-based learning, participatory governance, and value-driven innovation demonstrate promising adaptive potential. This study proposes a strategic repositioning framework rooted in Islamic principles such as amanah (trust), musyawarah (deliberation), and ihsan (excellence), integrated with contemporary management concepts. The model emphasizes three key dimensions: strengthening fundamental Islamic values, implementing adaptive technology-based management, and building external collaboration with educational, industrial, and digital communities. The integrative-adaptive approach positions Islamic educational institutions not only as preservers of tradition but also as dynamic agents of innovation. These findings contribute theoretically to the discourse on Islamic education management and provide practical insights for institutional leaders in pursuing sustainable transformation amidst global educational disruption

The cultural communication of santri at Pondok Pesantren Riyadhul Awamil, a pesantren that integrates classical Islamic traditions with the dynamics of modern santri life, serves as the central theme of this study. The main focus is to examine how communication patterns are formed and practiced among santri, between santri and the kiai (Islamic teacher), and within the broader pesantren environment. The study employs a qualitative approach through field observation and in-depth interviews with key informants. The findings indicate that the communication culture within this pesantren is strongly influenced by Islamic values such as adab (etiquette), tawadhu (humility), and the spirit of ukhuwah (brotherhood). The language used is not only verbal but also symbolic, expressed through daily traditions such as studying classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning), acts of service (khidmat), and group discussions (musyawarah). This cultural communication functions not only as a means of conveying religious messages but also as a tool for shaping the character and identity of the santri. The study concludes that the cultural communication of santri at Pondok Pesantren Riyadhul Awamil plays a vital role in preserving pesantren values while serving as an effective medium of Islamic propagation both within and beyond the pesantren community.

The CLiGS Textbox: Building and Using Collections of Literary Texts in Romance Languages Encoded in TEI XML
  • Aug 14, 2019
  • Journal of the Text Encoding Initiative
  • Christof Schöch + 3 more

The CLiGS textbox is published by the Computational Literary Genre Stylistics (CLiGS) group. The textbox is the group’s publication channel for several collections of literary texts. We describe the rationale for the manner in which the collections of literary texts included in the textbox have been compiled, annotated, and published. Furthermore, we suggest several ways in which the text collections can be used for research in literary studies. We aim to document some of the work of the CLiGS group, to showcase the unique TEI XML-based collections of French, Spanish, Spanish-American, and Portuguese novels and French drama we make available, and to encourage reuse of these text collections by others. We argue that agreement on common formats and procedures for text preparation, encoding, and publication fosters the accessibility, analysis, and reuse potential of literary text collections.

Modernisasi Pesantren Salaf Terhadap Transisi Kehidupan Sosial Dalam Tinjauan Filsafat Sosial

Salaf pesantren is one of the Islamic educational institutions that has a great influence and contribution to Indonesia in encouraging the progress of science and character education. So it is appropriate to study the renewal carried out by these salaf pesantrens. The renewal carried out by these salaf pesantren is a form of answering the needs of a dynamic society. So the review conducted in this paper is to look at the innovation of Hidayatut Thullab pesantren in the review of social philosophy, so the question in this paper is how the social inetarchy relationship between the characters produced between the community or the pesantren family and the educational innovations it makes to society as a whole. The method used is a combination of literature studies and field studies, using the domain analysis method, componen analysis, taxonomy analysis, and cultural theme analysis, the purpose of this method is to find the construction of social situations clearly. The results of the analysis of this paper are, that this semi-modern salaf pesantren has been able to build its social culture clearly, because it is assisted by a curriculum, adequate Islamic material and the environment of pesantren life based on salaf culture, so that the character of social interaction is clearly illustrated as a family or pesantren community that has a strong Islamic identity, a thick cultural culture and tak'dzim to the kiaiKiyai. However, because the innovation is only limited to the digitalisation of online mass media-based da'wah communication, the impact is only in the field of da'wah, and the social environment is also still limited to the relationship network environment, not yet to a more famous national level, as we know that the world of digital communication still needs something unique so that it goes viral and is widely known and captures more people. While the pesantren's relationship with the surrounding community as a form of social interaction has not been carried out optimally, because it is still confined to the salaf pesantren system with a traditional classical paradigm, thus making the salaf pesantren movement more limited than modern pesantren, such as the lack of cooperation between pesantren as a whole as educational institutions to the government and NGOs in order to obtain integrated activities, adequate facilities, teacher support and so on.

Об одной особой редакции рукописных синодиков — литературных сборников XVIII в.

The type of Synodikos with a literary preface appeared at the end of the 16th century and developed and spread in the 17th century. It is believed that the study of the copies of the 18th century does not add essential information about the repertoire of collections of Synodikos. However, manuscripts can still be found that do not completely fit into the general picture of the ideas available in current science about the composition of literary collections of the late Synodikos. The article examines three handwritten front Synodikos books identified by the author, which differ significantly in the composition of literary prefaces from the general mass of those Synodikoses of the third edition common in the 18th century (I.V. Dergacheva). They are based on miniatures copied from engravings of various editions of the Synodikos by Leonty Bunin, and selected texts that match their meaning. A similar principle of compiling a moralistic collection was used in the Patriarch Adrian Synodikos (O.R. Khromov). The manuscripts in question have different origins and history of existence, but demonstrate thematic and stylistic affinity. They are also united by a curious combination in preface collections of poetic and prose texts. All this gives reason to say that in this case we are dealing with a special edition of the Synodikos — a literary collection that existed in the 18th century.
