Abstract

The first Oxford Conference was organized in 1978 by the late Dr. D.J.C. Cunningham (Oxford) and Dr. R. Hercynski (Warsaw)—among others—who saw the need to bring physiologists and mathematicians together to address critical issues in understanding the control of breathing. Four years later, a group at UCLA led by Drs. B.J. Whipp, S.A. Ward (both respiratory and exercise physiologists), J.W. Bellville (an anesthesiologist) and D.M. Wiberg (a systems engineer) organized a sequel meeting at Lake Arrowhead, CA, which proved to be as much a success as the first one. Since then, the `Oxford Conference’ has been continued every 3 years in various parts of the world with this eighth meeting being held in N. Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA.KeywordsRespiratory ControlModeling MethodologyBiomedical ModelingRespiratory NeuronRespiratory Control SystemThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
