Abstract

Abstract This work was written within the framework of the project “The frequency of word length”;, which is mainly housed in Bochum and Gottingen. In this project the word length distribution in texts from different languages is analysed in order to capture it mathematically and to investigate its adherence to certain fixed laws. In this respect, German is the best investigated language (cf. Best & Altmann, 1996), but there remain many text classes and authors the word length distributions of which are yet unknown. It is to be expected that the distributions of linguistic entities differ by author, text class, and historical time, at least.
