Abstract

Polarized THz time domain spectroscopy is used to study anisotropic optical properties of wood and artificial cellulose materials in view of a potential use of such materials as optical elements in the THz range, such as for Half Wave Plates and Quarter Wave Plates. Wood samples of different species, sample thickness as well as water content are studied experimentally. In addition artificially produced cellulose samples are characterized in terms of birefringent properties and compared to the properties of the wood samples.
