Abstract

This article presents St. Joseph as a model of real fatherhood for every man-father. The source of the study is the apostolic letter of Pope Francis Patriscorde, which was issued in connection with the proclamation of the Extraordinary Year of Saint Joseph. To understand the paternity of St. Joseph, it is necessary to see the fatherhood of God in him. Pope Francis is the first of all popes to say directly that Joseph was the true father of Jesus. It is based on the statement that no one is born a father, but becomes a father. Joseph was not the biological father of Jesus, but he became so through his actions and attitudes. Joseph gives his paternal heart to Jesus and is therefore a father who is loved, tender, accepting and with creative courage. His fatherhood appears as selfless service in the process of upbringing. Therefore, remaining a father in the shadow, he fulfills all fatherly tasks. Keywords: Father, fatherhood, example, love, tenderness, obedience, creative courage, father in shadow, upbringing
