Abstract

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors have become widely used in various applications, including sensing, real-time chemical interactions, and other diverse purposes. Over the past few decades, SPR technology has undergone significant advancements in sensitivity, resolution, selectivity, and throughput over the past few decades. This chapter provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art in SPR sensors, including recent developments in instrumentation, materials, and detection strategies. We discuss the underlying principles of SPR sensing and highlight the key factors that influence the performance of SPR sensors, such as the choice of metal, surface chemistry, and immobilization methods. We also describe the various applications of SPR sensors in fields such as drug discovery, biosensing, and environmental monitoring. Finally, we discuss the future outlook for SPR sensing, including emerging technologies and potential areas for further research.
