Abstract
Abstract In spring 1992, a survey was conducted to assess Wisconsin teachers' perceived competencies in, attitudes toward, and amount of class time devoted to teaching about the environment. This study also examined the effects of Wisconsin environmental education mandates. These mandates require that certain teaching populations receive preservice preparation in environmental education and that all districts develop, implement, and evaluate K-12 environmental education curriculum plans. The study identified not only areas where the mandates have been effective, but also areas that need further attention if the intent of the mandates is to be fully achieved.
