Abstract

The paper presents a concept architecture of the sensor network, with the purpose of counting passengers in public transport. The architecture of the presented system is represented in the form of a block diagram. A concept architecture for a passenger automatic counting system based on a two-layer clustered mobile sensor network has been proposed. Each observed vehicle is considered as a cluster that transmits information to the central station via wireless communication. The vehicle contains two sensors based on the principle of Passive Infrared Sensors (PIR) principle. The vehicle also has an LCD display that shows the situation with passengers and a microcontroller that has a built-in counting algorithm based on passengers that have entered and exited. As a case study, the system for counting travellers in the public transport system of buses is given.
