Abstract

The idea in this paper is the reconfiguration of windings of a three-phase induction motor. This is done by obtaining a sample machine with known parameters and modelling the same machine in Ansys Maxwell finite element analysis (FEA). The sample machine has a single layer winding but later reconfigured to double layer windings under the same condition and machine parameters. The percentage overshoot at transient conditions were simulated and compared on torque, speed and core loss of both machines. When both machines are subjected to no-load and rated load performance evaluation, the double layer winding machine performs better than the single layer winding in terms of torque, speed and core loss.
