Abstract
Abstract Three boundary layer models. NOABL. WAsP and UVMM. are applied to a wind energy siting investigation in the Saldanha Bay area. The study provides a useful focus for comparing and evaluating model performance. Although the models are based on different theoretical principles. they are consistent in identifying high wind speeds over the ocean and accelerated flow In the vicinity of the main north-south ridge and at the head of the narrow peninsula adjacent to the Langebaan Lagoon. Model results compare favourably with observations from a reference station at Langebaanweg. and with mobile wind surveys.
