Abstract

Wordwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX)is a technology for broadband wireless access (BWA). It has been approved by ITU as the fourth standard of 3G. In this paper, we propose a base station (BS) transceiver solution for WiMAX orthogonal-frequency division-multiplexing access (OFDMA) mode. Our aim is to provide a reference design of WiMAX OFDMA physical layer (PHY), and moreover to verify the possibility of wireless communication on general IT architecture with multicore. The solution focus on baseband processing and is implemented on Cell Broadband Engine (BE), which is a multicore processor jointly developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba for high performance computing. The real bit-error-rate (BER) test indicates that our solution can achieve satisfied BER performance under most situations.
