Abstract
The ground state of a three-dimensional electron gas for an intermediate density is investigated within a framework of the generalized gradient approximation. We found that a fully spin-polarized Wigner film is expected to be the ground state at r s ∼ 24 . This critical density is higher than the results calculated within the framework of the local spin density approximation.
