Abstract
In this paper, a wideband dipole antenna with more than an octave of impedance bandwidth is presented. Enhancement is achieved by using an additional coplanar parasitic element and via optimization of the tapered feeding network. The prototype antenna demonstrates 87% impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 2), operating between 2.01 and 5.08 GHz. A sensitivity analysis reveals the possibility for a dual-band variant, covering both the 2.4- and 5.2-GHz WLAN operating bands, for use in IEEE 802.11a/b/g compliant systems. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
