Abstract
The character and roles of the Computer Grapics Metafile (CGM) are described, and some of the applications currently being developed are looked at. The CGM is a lower level standard that only captures static graphical images. As such, it has been developed to give compact and easily transferrable files when required, and provides advantages for both software suppliers and their customers when used for the storage of graphical data.
