Abstract

We develop a component embeddedness perspective on the relationship between the interaction of conduct and network structural properties, and employee creativity. We argue that the value of social network depends on not only the network structural patterns, but also the characteristics of network members. We propose that tie strength (strong ties and weak ties) between focal actor and alters and the learning activities (exploration and exploitation) of these alters will jointly affect focal actor's creativity. We further investigate the conditional factor of bringing ties. By doing so, we integrate component embeddedness (nodal level), relational embeddedness (dyadic level) and structural embeddedness (whole network level) to explain the relationship between social network and creativity.
