Abstract

In the perioperative arena, a solid understanding of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization processes is essential for nurses to be effective in their role as patient advocates. Patient safety is enhanced when perioperative nurses have knowledge that extends beyond the basics of these procedures. This article provides a concise overview of the information on cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization contained in the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Recommended Practices that affects the work of the perioperative nurse on a daily basis.
