Abstract

Abstract Front views of multilayers show moiré fringes and it is well known that these can give information on lattices. If one can also obtain high-resolution images (direct lattice imaging), a careful study and comparison of the combined images can give valuable information on the relationship between the different components of the multilayer. We show here an example of a Au/Co/Au multilayer where the fit between the cobalt layer and the gold layer is studied.
