Abstract

Mr NB, a 91-year-old male, presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with collapse and lateral chest wall pain. While in the ED he developed inferior ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). He was transferred to the Cathlab, where his right coronary artery and left anterior descending were stented. When transferred to the Coronary Care Unit, his haemoglobin dropped from 150 g/dL to 63 g/dL. His blood pressure dropped and he became too unstable. A portable chest x-ray showed a ‘white out’ left lung, suggestive of haemothorax. The patient was palliated after discussion with the family. The causes of death on Coroner's report were complications of myocardial infarction and its treatment.
