Abstract

SEG's membership has grown dramatically over the past few years, to over 34,000 at this writing. More importantly, it has grown in two distinct segments: international members and student members. Over 60% of our members are based outside North America, and we have over 8000 student members. Consequently, we need to constantly re-examine our mission and see how best to serve member needs. Many members think of SEG as mainly the publisher of Geophysics and TLE, and organizer of the Annual Meeting. Some know that SEG also publishes books, has continuing education courses, and holds periodic workshops. In reality, SEG does quite a bit more, and much of it focuses on students and international members. I shall discuss some of these initiatives.
