Abstract

The Prader-Willi Syndrome is a developmental disorder, partially characterized by severe obesity, which is often life-threatening. An inpatient behavioral treatment program achieved a mean weight reduction of 51 kg (range 23–116 kg) from a mean pretreatment weight of 101 kg (range 65–180 kg) to mean post-treatment weight of 50 kg (range 40–66 kg) in 10 subjects. Long-tern follow-up averaging 5.2 years (range 1.6–7.3 years) yielded a mean weight of 66 kg for an average weight gain of 16 kg. Results are discussed with regard to the role of the extra-therapy environment in maintaining treatment effects.
