Abstract

The weight function is presented which allows for calculations of mode I stress intensity factors for an external circumferential crack in a hollow cylinder subjected to axisymmetric loading. The solution applies to cylinders with the ratio of inner and outer radii ranging from 0.1 to 1 and to cracks with the depth up to 0.8 times the wall thickness. For the most of crack and cylinder geometries, the derived weight function is found to be within 3% of finite-element results.
