Abstract

The enormous amount of energy present in meteorological phenomena of all kinds is examined. An explanation of the weather is given and the connections between weather and weather related sources of energy that are potentially useful are explored. In some cases the technology that will be used to harness these sources of energy is new; in more cases it is existing technology brought up to date. The giant storm that pounded the Northeast in February 1978 is used to explain how atmospheric processes work, what their traits are, and what they mean to alternate sources of energy such as solar, wind, hydro, ocean, and wood.
